A Study for Stamping of Patchwork with Resistance Spot Weld (저항 점용접에 의한 실러 패치워크 적용 판재 프레스 성형 연구)

  • Recently, research on the development of lightweight vehicle bodies is increasing continuously as a response to fuel economy regulations. To reduce the weight of a vehicle body, a conventional steel plate has been substituted by light weight material with high specific strength and the jointing of multi-materials is generally applied. On the other hand, the customer's demand for safety and emotional quality in NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, a light weight with proper strength and NVH quality is needed. In the view of light weighting and NVH quality, the application of a vibration proof steel plate can be an effective solution but the formability of a sandwich panel is different with a conventional steel sheet. Therefore, careful analysis of formability is required. This study aims to characterize the formability of a sandwich high-strength steel plate. The high-strength steel plates of different thicknesses with resistance spot welding and sealer bonding were analyzed using forming limits diagram through a cup drawing test.

Mechanical Properties and Microstructural Analysis of Sn-40Bi-X Alloys (Sn-40Bi-X 합금의 기계적 물성과 미세조직 분석)

  • 저온용 무연 솔더의 대표 조성으로 고려되고 있는 Sn-58Bi(융점: $138^{\circ}C$) 공정(eutectic) 조성은 우수한 강도에도 불구하고 연성(ductility) 측면에서의 문제점이 지속적으로 보고되고 있다. 따라서 이 합금계의 연성을 최대로 개선시킬 수 있으면서도 실제 상용화가 가능한 합금 조성의 개발 연구가 요청된다. 본 연구에서는 Sn-Bi 2원계 조성에서 최대의 연성을 나타내는 것으로 보고된 Sn-40Bi 조성에 미량의 합금원소를 첨가함으로써 최대의 연성을 확보하는 한편, 그 연성 특성이 변형속도에 어느 정도 민감한지를 인장 실험을 통해 결정하고자 하였다. 합금원소로는 0.1~0.5 wt%의 Ag, Mn, In, Cu를 선택하였으며, 인장 시편을 제조하여 $10^{-2}$, $10^{-3}$, $10^{-4}\;s^{-1}$의 3종류로 변형속도를 변형시켜가며 응력-변형 곡선(stress-strain curve)을 측정하였고, 조성별, 변형속도별로 최대인장강도(ultimate tensile stress, UTS) 및 연신율 결과들을 정리하였다. 합금원소를 첨가한 조성의 경우는 모든 시험 조건에서 Sn-40Bi보다 우수한 연신률을 나타내는 것으로 측정되었으나, $10^{-2}\;s^{-1}$의 빠른 변형속도에서는 그 향상 정도가 상대적으로 감소하는 경향이 관찰되었다. 특히 Sn-40Bi-0.5Ag 조성의 경우 느린 변형속도에서 특히 눈에 띄는 연신률 값을 나타내며, 모든 변형속도 조건에서 가장 우수한 연성을 나타내었다. 한편 Sn-40Bi-0.1Cu 조성의 경우 변형속도에 따른 연신률의 변화 정도, 즉, 변형속도에 따른 연신률의 민감도가 매우 커 $10^{-4}\;s^{-1}$ 속도에서는 Sn-40Bi-0.5Ag에 버금가는 연신률 값이 측정되었으나, $10^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ 속도에서는 가장 나쁜 연신률 특성을 보여주었다. Sn-40Bi-0.2Mn 조성은 최고의 연신률 향상 특성을 나타내지는 않았으나, In을 첨가한 경우보다는 대체적으로 우수한 연성을 나타내었다. 이상의 각 합금별 연성 특성은 인장시험 전의 미세조직 관찰 결과와 인장시험 후 파면부의 조직변화 관찰 결과로부터 해석되었다. 그 결과 석출상의 형성 여부, 인장 시험 중 재결정 조직의 형성 여부, 라멜라(lamellar) 조직의 분율과 라멜라 간격(lamellar spacing)의 정도 또는 $\beta$-Sn과 라멜라 조직 사이의 결정립계와 라멜라 조직 내 결정립계에서의 슬라이딩 모드(sliding mode) 변형 정도, 석출상의 크기와 분포 정도 등이 연신률 및 변형속도 민감도와 같은 연성 특성에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 인자인 것으로 분석되었다.

Estimation of design parameters of TBM using punch penetration and Cerchar abrasiveness test (압입시험 및 세르샤 마모시험에 의한 TBM의 설계변수 추정)

  • Linear cutting test is known to be very effective to determine machine parameters (i.e. thrust force and torque) and to estimate penetration rate of TBM and other operation conditions. Although the linear cutting test has significant advantages, the test is expensive and time-consuming because it requires large size specimen and high load capacity of the testing machine. Therefore, a few empirical prediction models (e.g. CSM, NTNU and QTBM) alternatively adopt laboratory index tests to estimate design parameters of TBM. This study discusses the estimation method of TBM machine parameters and disc cutter consumption using punch penetration test and Cerchar abrasion test of which the researches are rare. The cutter forces and cutter consumption can be estimated by the empirical models derived from the relationship between laboratory test result with field data and linear cutting test data. In addition, the estimation process was programmed through which the design parameters of TBM (e.g. thrust, torque, penetration rate, and cutter consumption) are automatically estimated using laboratory test results.

Static Strength of Composite Single-lap Joints Using I-fiber Stitching Process with different Stitching Pattern and Angle (I-fiber Stitching 공법을 적용한 복합재료 Single-lap Joint의 Stitching 패턴과 각도에 따른 정적 강도 연구)

  • Laminated composite materials have excellent in-plane properties, but are vulnerable in thickness directions, making it easy to delamination when bending and torsion loads are applied. Thickness directional reinforcement methods of composite materials that delay delamination include Z-pinning, Stitching, Tufting, etc., and typically Z-pinning and Stitching method are commonly used. The Z-pinning is reinforcement method by inserting metal or carbon pin in the thickness direction of prepreg, and the conventional stitching process is a method of reinforcing the mechanical properties in the thickness direction by intersecting the upper and lower fibers on the preform. In this paper, I-fiber stitching method, which complement and improve weakness of Z-pinning and Stitching method, was proposed, and the static strength of composite single-lap joints using I-fiber stitching process were evaluated. The single-lap joints were fabricated by a co-curing method using an autoclave vacuum bag process. The thickness of the composite adherend was fixed, and 5 types of specimens were manufactured with varying the stitching pattern (5×5, 7×7) and angle (0°, 45°). From the test, the failure load of the specimen reinforced by the I-fiber stitching process was increased by up to 143% compared to that of specimen without reinforcement.

The Study for the characteristics of mechanically and thermally treated PET films (기계적 및 열적 처리된 PET 필름의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The influence of thermal treatment and cold drawing was investigated for poly(ethy1ene terephthalate) films fabricated with various experimental conditions. Samples were elongated at room temperature under stepwise-drawing condition with the cross-head speed kom 0.5 to 500 mrdmin in an universal tester. Stress oscillation was observed in the stress-stnin curve of the samples heat-treatd at 50, 72 and $129^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, but it was not observed in the samples heat-treatd at $83^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Thermal analyses of the samples were carried out in differential scanning calorimeter at the heating rate df $10^{\circ}C$/min/min, and the glass transition temperature, crystallization peak, enthalpy of fusion and degree of crystallinity were measured. The dynamic mechanical analyses of the samples were also carried out in a multiplefimction internal kiction pendulum at 1 Hz with the heating rate of $1.5^{\circ}C$/min, and it was found that the elastic modulus increases in the order of non-treated, heat-treated, and elongated samples.

  • Baeknokdam rock mass at the crest of Halla mountain is composed of Baeknokdam trachybasalt in the eastern region and Hallasan trachyte in the western region. On-going weathering, rockfall and collapse of Baeknokdam wall rock are closely linked to the weathering of trachyte distributed in the western region of Baeknokdam, though within the restricted area of eastern region trachybasalt blocks has been naturally formed and may be rolled down neering properties have been conducted. Based on the results of these experiments variations of mineralogical-petrographical characteristics of trachyte together with chemical and physical properties with respect to the degree of weathering have been analyzed. Weathering mechanism of Baeknokdam trachyte has been delineated by investigating the environmental cause of weathering and the peculiar features of weathered rock mass.

  • In this work, the mechanical and electrical properties, and thermal stability of vapor-grown carbon nanofibers/polyimide (VGCNFs/PI) composite film synthesized by in-situ polymerization were investigated in terms of tensile properties, volume resistivity and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. From the results, the addition of VGCNFs with a certain amount into polyimide led to obvious improvement in tensile strength. The volume resistivity of the films was decreased with increasing the VGCNFs content and the electrical percolation threshold appeared between 1 and 3 wt% of VGCNFs content, which was probably caused by the formation of interconnective structures among the VGCNFs in a composite system. The thermal stability of the film was higher than that of pure PI one. This result indicated that the crosslinking of VGCNFs/PI Composites was enhanced by well-distribution of YGCNFs in PI resin, resulting in the increase of the thermal stability of the resulting composites.

  • Structural integrity of solid rocket depends on the residual reactions between constituents of its composition(post cure, migration etc.), the oxygen(or anti-oxydent) in the free volume and humidity (desiccant) under the perfect sealed condition. Mechanical Properties of composite solid propellant arising from those factors are very complex. Moreover the propulsion are faced with thermal loads from diurnal & seasonal cycle till firing. In this study, the fast evaluation method of long term mechanical properties is suggested based on Thermo-Rheological Simplicity from curing oven to cool-down stage in view point of thermal stabilization. For this subject, endurance tester having temperature control capability are devised. From the results from incremental load and strain, non-linear characteristics are discussed.

Effect of Thermal History on the Physical Properties of Nylon66 (열 이력이 나일론66의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • Nylon66 extrudates as a function of the extrusion number were prepared by a twin screw extruder. Chemical structures, thermal properties, melt index, crystal structures, mechanical properties such as the tensile strength, elongation at break and impact strength, and rheological property were measured by FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, melt indexer, DSC, TGA, XRD, universal tensile tester, Izod impact tester, and rheometer. FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR characterizations indicated that the number of extrusions did not affect the chemical structure. The decrease in the molecular weight was checked by the melt index of extrudates. There were no effects of the thermal history on the melting and degradation temperature. The tensile and impact strength and modulus were found to be similar, regardless of the number of extrusions, but the elongation decreased significantly. The complex viscosity of extrudates at low frequencies decreased with the extrusion number. No structural changes after extrusion were confirmed from the fact that there was no change in the slope and shape of G'-G" plot.

Characteristics of Bamboo Vinegars Obtained from Three Types of Carbonization Kiln (3종류의 탄화로에서 얻어진 죽초액의 특성)

  • Three different species of green and air-dried Korean bamboos were carbonized by using three different types of kilns designated as special (800~1000℃), improved (600~700℃) and simple kiln (400~500℃), and the bamboo vinegars obtained from the carbonization processes were characterized. In the case of the special kiln, most of the bamboo vinegars obtained at the first recovery stage showed high values of specific gravity and also in content of organic acid and water-soluble tar. The bamboo vinegars obtained from the improved kiln showed various physical properties depending on their species. In the case of simple kiln, the bamboo vinegars obtained from air-dried bamboos and at temperatures below 80℃, showed a higher specific gravity and more water-soluble tar as well as total organic components than those obtained at 80~150℃. A good linear relationship (correlation coefficient of ca. 0.90) was obtained between the specific gravities and the sum of organic acids and water-soluble tars. Therefore, this correlation coefficient might be a good index to determine the quality of bamboo vinegars. The major chemical constituents of the bamboo vinegars were acetic acid and considerable amounts of phenols: guaiacol, ethyl guaiacol, syringol, and methyl syringol.
