Locating function of a particular item is more of added entry than a main entry heading. This function was expanded especially in the machine readable cataloging by introducing the control number and standard bibliographic number. Assembling function of the main entry heading is on a level with that of cross reference and notes, added entries, uniform headings. Links among all variant forms of a heading in hypercatalog will be made for collocating of all publications of a given author. The link of bibliographic records in this catalog can be freed from the dependence on standardized heading form. The function of the catalog is not affected even though by abandoning the concept of main entry heading. Further efforts should be made to raise users' finding opportunities through expansion of acces points and linking devices among related records.

This study is to investigate the problems in mapping between MARC data and Dublin core metadata, and to evaluate metadata as a source of cataloging. In addition resource description framework and its XML syntax for processing metadata in different format were analyzed in the view from encoding and transporting metadata in the network environments.

The study designs and implements a KORMARC/EAD integrated system for the Myongji Digital Library Collections. The purpose of this paper is to design the metadata to Myongji Korean History Collections to provide digital information of high quality to clients, and to develop and implement a model for managing digital library collections. In order to test the model and the quality of the derived metadata, we built a metadata management system, which is connected to the existing KORMARC system. The system consists of two modules- a retrieval and an input module. While in the retrieve mode, one can retrieve KORMARC records of books and archival items, with links to modified EAD files for archival items or to image files for books, in the input mode, one can type two types of data such as a catalog data and an inventory data. Finally, we evaluated the proposed system via mail questionnaires, and propose three suggestions to make this system a much more comprehensive and effective system.

코퍼스는 기계 가독형으로 개장되어 있는 실제 사용 언어의 집합으로 자연어 처리에 필요한 여러 가지 언어 정보를 내재하고 있다. 이들 정보는 코퍼스 분석기를 이용하여 획득할 수 있으며 용례와 각종 통계 정보 및 확률 정보, 연어 목록 등은 코퍼스에서 추출할 수 있는 대표적인 언어 정보들이다. 그러나 기존의 한국어 코퍼스 분석 도구들은 용례 추출 기능만을 보유하여 활용 범위가 제한되어 있었다. 이에 본 논문에서는 대량의 한국어 코퍼스를 분석하여 용례뿐만 아니라 자연어 처리의 제분야에서 필요한 언어 정보들을 추출하는 방법에 대해 연구하였으며 이의 검증을 위해 KCAT(Korean Corpus Analysis Tool)를 구현하였다. KCAT는 코퍼스 색인, 용례 추출, 통계 정보 추출, 연어 추출 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 용례 색인을 위해서는 여러 가지 사전과 용례 색인 구조가 필요한데 KCAT에서는 가변 차수 B-Tree 구조를 이용하여 사전을 구성하며 용례 색인을 위해 버킷 단위의 역 화일 구조를 이용한다. 질 좋은 용례의 추출을 위해 KCAT는 다양한 용례 연산 및 정렬 기능을 제공한다. 또한 통계적 방법의 자연어 처리 분야를 위해 어휘 확률, 상태 전이 확률, 관측 심볼 확률, 상호 정보, T-score 등을 제공하며, 기계 번역 분야에서 필요한 연어를 추출한다.

The necessity of computerizing the Central National Library of Korea has been widely recognized. The purpose of this research is to develop Korean Machine Readable Cataloging system as a first step toward an integrated library system and suggests the ways of utilizing the MARC file in Korean libraries as well as in the Central National Library. In this paper the following studies are included: 1. An analysis of the functions and current procedures of the Central National Library 2. Development of a standard record format for KOR MARC 3. Production and utilization of KOR MARC files 4. Identification of problems in developing KOR MARC system In conclusion, the following recommendations are made: 1. Standardization of the internal code and input/output equipments should be proceded for hangul and chinese data processing. 2. The libraries planning or having accomplished computerization process should be cooperative in standardizing and distributing bibliographic data bases including KOR MARC tapes. 3. Training of competent librarians and strong support from the government are required for a successful implementation of the Library's computerization project.

The study designs and implements a metadata management system for archival and manuscripts control. It has two purposes. First purpose is to organize the collection that the Institution of Korean Church History holds by using the proposed metadata format. Second purpose is to suggest the model and framework for managing the collection. The proposed metadata is designed based on ISAD(G), USMARC AMC, EAD and Ebind, By using the proposed metadata, the collection management system, which allows an integrated retrieval, is implemented. In order to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed system as well as to gain the basic data for the improvement of the proposed system, a questionnaire survey through e-mail is conducted. The evaluation results will be utilized for improving and upgrading the proposed system, and the phrased implementation of applying the system to digital libraries is suggested.
