  • Textbook is a tool that helps achieve the learning objectives based on the content of the curriculum. The contents of the textbook will be constructed newly because revised curriculum 2015 was announced. The aim at this study is to provide an indication of the textbook writing. To achieve the objectives, we conducted a pilot study in order to analyze the content of the textbook of informatics currently being used in middle schools and to derive the direction of access to the newly configured physical computing unit. Analysis of content elements was used Romey. The pilot studied makes lesson harmonized with H/W and S/W by utilizing the robot. According to the results of the analysis, there is one textbook among the currently used textbooks that is suitable to help students develop their thinking and in the case of physical computing unit, inquiry instruction showed positive results. This study suggestions necessity of writing types that sets importance on activities in the form of textbook.

  • Image of emotional pleasure or displeasure, tension or emotional division of tranquility in the form of a tree is evaluated by weighting. Image representative evaluation of the sensitivity of the brightness contrast ratings 1 car pleasure, displeasure or stress or emotional tranquility and two cars are separated by image segmentation. Emotion Recognition of four compared to the numerical data is measured by brightness. OpenCV implementation through evaluation graph the stress intensity contrast, tranquility, pleasure, displeasure, depending on changes in the value of the computing is divided into four emotional. Contrast sensitivity of computing the brightness depending on the value entered 'nuisance' to 'excellent' or 'stress' to 'calm' the emotional changes can give. Calculate the sensitivity of the image regularity of localized computing system can control the future direction of industry on the application of emotion recognition will play a positive role.

  • The 2015 revised mathematics curriculum specified software education as a mandatory curriculum amid a trend in which the software environment was extended to daily life due to the fourth industrial revolution. It also calls for a paradigm shift in lessons that incorporate learning and evaluation by specifying a process-oriented assessment. This study focused on addition and subtraction classes based on computational thinking skills that integrate mathematics learning and evaluation. Two fourth grade classes of elementary schools in Seoul were selected to conduct a pre- and post- test of metacognition and mathematics achievement through quantitative research. Also, a mixed study was conducted to analyze students' activities and opinions in parallel. The results of the study confirmed that the computational thinking-based classes, which incorporate mathematics learning and evaluation, had a positive effect on the metacognition of elementary school students and the improvement of their achievement scores. In addition to those identified in this study, further studies on other factors are proposed.

  • In Korea, the software education in elementary and middle school is essential to the 2015 revised curriculum, and various software education policies are being implemented. It is necessary to analyze the effects of these changes on computer and information literacy of students. This study investigates and analyzes the present state of computer and information literacy education in 32 middle schools nationwide. For the 640 students, we surveyed the students' status of coding education, confidence in computational thinking based on coding experience, confidence in computational thinking according to the frequency of computer use for learning purposes, and confidence in computational thinking ability according to the frequency of major ICT activities in class. As a result, there was a lack of Computer and Information literacy educational opportunities through school and relatively lack of educational opportunities for students in the rural area. And the more learning experience showed a positive impact on the confidence in computational thinking.

  • This study analyzed the effect of an unplugged educational program which focuses on the algorithm execution time analysis on enhancing the computational thinking of the third grade students. An unplugged educational program was developed by following the procedures of the ADDIE model based on the result of the demand analysis conducted with 70 incumbent elementary school teachers and 120 third grade students. The developed program was applied to 24 third grade students for 36 classes in six days and a comparison was made through pre-post comparison tests with 24 students who were taught with a board game program for the same period of time. As a result, the unplugged education program which focuses on the algorithm execution time analysis is deemed to have positive effect on the computational thinking of the third grade students.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine effects of maker education for high-school students on attitude toward software education, creative problem solving, and computational thinking. The program was designed to develop an artificial intelligence robot using mBlock and Arduino and implemented at a maker space. We analyzed 19 students among 20 who participated in the program, the result of paired t-test indicated significant increase in all variables. Also, we performed a multiple regression analysis to investigate predictors of perceived achievement and satisfaction. The finding demonstrated an initial attitude toward software education was found to be the significant predictor of perceived achievement and satisfaction. With the results, we confirmed maker education enhances attitude toward software education, creative problem solving, and computational thinking. Lastly, we discussed the implications and limitations and suggested the direction for future research.

  • AI (Artificial Intelligence) has attracted interest as a key element for technological advancement in various fields. In Korea, internet companies are leading the development of AI business technology. Active government funding plans for AI technology has also drawn interest. But not everyone is optimistic about AI. Both positive and negative opinions coexist about AI. However, attempts on analyzing people's opinions about AI in a quantitative way was scarce. In this study, we used text mining on SNS (Social Networking Service) to collect opinions about AI. And then we performed a comparative analysis about whether people view it as a positive thing or a negative thing and performed a comparative analysis to recognize popular key-words. Based on the results, it was confirmed that the change of key-words and negative posts have increased through time. And through these results, we were able to predict trend about AI.

  • This study derived optimized teaching aids that use the physical computing method as the solution for effective software education at the elementary level. We set standard for selecting physical computing teaching aids in elementary-level by gathering the opinions from previous studies and think tanks and then applied the standard to some aids and choose one. We also made lesson plan and tried it to the experimental group. Subsequently, students' logical thinking skills showed a statistically significant improvement in terms of the t-test. Also, in the analysis of the effect size, it was shown to have a positive influence on the improvement of the students' logical thinking skills. Additionally, survey of satisfaction evaluation from the students showed that the teaching aid selection standard was effective in selecting suitable teaching aids for elementary students and that the classroom activities utilizing physical computing teaching aids were at a suitable level for elementary students.

  • The purpose of this study is to statistically analyze the correlation between block-coding software education and the resilience of elementary school students in order to research the significance of software education. In this study, 61 fourth grade students at an elementary school in Incheon were pre-tested for resilience. A block-coding education program from a nonprofit organization called code.org was used at the learner's level. 15 periods of classes and post-test were conducted to analyze the improvement of resilience. This study finds that control and positivity out of the three parts of resilience(control, positivity, sociality) of the students who took the block-coding classes improved statistically significantly as well as the overall score did too. This suggests that software education can foster not only students' computational thinking skills, but also their resilience, the power to live their lives positively and flexibly.
