  • The electric traction systems are quite differ from general power systems which is single-phase and heavy load. Therefore, there are inevitably power quality problems such as steady state or transient voltage drop, voltage imbalance and harmonic distortion. Among these problems, since steady-state volatge drop is the one of most important factor in electric power quality, many researches about on the compensation of volatge drop by using SVC(Static Var Compensator) and/or STACOM(Static Compensator) have been studied and proposed Also, it is expected that transient voltage drop(voltage sag) could affect the control and safety of high speed traction load. In this paper, voltage sag compensation of AT(Auto Transformer) feeding system are studied The detailed transient models of utility source, scott transformer, AT, and traction load are estabilished. The application of DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer) in electric traction system is proposed to compensate the voltage sag of traction network which is occured by the fault of utility source. It can be shown that application of the DVR in electric traction system is very useful to compensate the volatge sag from the result of related simulation works.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented the planar monopole antenna using the coupling effect for the multi-band characteristic. A parasitic element for the multi-band characteristic based on a rectangular patch with single resonance is inserted. Spiral shaped parasitic element is used for minimizing the antenna size and obtaining the multi-resonance characteristic. The frequency characteristics are modified and optimized by varying specific parameters. By inserting an L-shaped resonator at both sides of the feed line which connected through the via hole to the ground plane, unnecessary frequency bands are eliminated. Proposed antenna dimension is $40{\times}60{\times}1mm^3$. It is fabricated on the FR-4 substrate(${\varepsilon}_r$=4.4) using a microstrip line of $50{\Omega}$ for impedance matching. By measurement results, the characteristic of the return loss under -10 dB are 1.714~2.496 GHz, 2.977~4.301 GHz, and 4.721~6.315 GHz, and the radiation patterns have omni-directional shapes.

  • This paper presents a balun consisting of a T-junction, a Right/Left Handed Transmission line(RLH-TL), and a conventional Right Handed(RH) line. It is assumed that the RLH-TL consists of N unit-cells. We provide closed-form solutions and design a very compact wideband(80 %) balun using CPW lines based on the obtained solutions. Then, we propose a capacitively loaded loop antenna designed for a uniform current distribution. The antenna resistance of the proposed antenna at resonance is about 204 ohms. The length of the unit cell is about $\lambda/12$(total length: $1\;\lambda$). The magnetic field generated from the proposed antenna is stronger than that of the conventional one by as much as 20 dB. We used a coplanar strip line(CPS) to combine the loop antenna and balun. The proposed antenna may be used as a near field UHF RFID reader antenna.

  • This paper suggest away to maintain constant power through trolley wire by transferring increased line voltage to the AC main line while changing the mode from Converter(Forward) to Inverter(Reverse) when the line voltage is increased due to regenerative power when the train stops, This paper suggests a Double Converter DC substation that can create regenerative power when the train stops reusable. We also proposed using a simulation tool, the optimal Thyrister firing angle that can minimize the undershoot and overshoot that occurs when transferring the mode from Converter to Inverter for quality improvement of DC voltage in the Double Converter in the DC substation from the Busan Urban Subway.

  • In this paper, a novel CRLH-TL unit cell with controllable transmission zeros was proposed. Proposed composite right/left handed transmission line(CRLH-TL) unit cell is implemented in the form of the metal-insulator-metal(MIM) capacitors, the microstrip stub inductors, and the co-planar waveguide(CPW) inductor. And this proposed CRLH-TL generates two transmission zeros in lower/upper passband by the effort of electromagnetic couplings between each MIM capacitors and microstrip stub inductors. Using this proposed CRLH-TL, broad bandpass filter for UWB system was designed and fabricated. The measured results reveal that the two transmission zeros are observed in lower/upper passband and the overall size of the filter, excluding the feed line is about 8 mm$\times$8 mm, less then $\lambda_g$/4 on electric size.

  • In this paper, a method of enhancing the bandwidth of a double-dipole quasi-Yagi antenna (DDQYA) using a modified integrated balun is presented. The modified integrated balun consists of a microstrip (MS) line inserted along the center of a coplanar strip (CPS) line and the end of the MS line is connected to the CPS line through a shorting pin at the feed point. The geometry of the modified integrated balun is adjusted to improve the bandwidth of the DDQYA. In addition, the performance of the proposed balun in a back-to-back configuration is compared with a conventional balun. The proposed antenna with the optimized modified integrated balun is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experiment results show that the antenna has a frequency band of 1.56-3.04 GHz(64.4%) for a VSWR < 2, which shows enhanced bandwidth compared to the DDQYA with the conventional balun.

  • In this paper, we studied a design method for a broadband 3-element quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) for indoor digital television (DTV) reception. The proposed QYA employs a novel balun between a microstrip (MS) line and a coplanar strip (CPS) line feeding the driver dipole. The proposed balun is constructed by connecting the end of MS line to CPS line through a shorting pin, and the CPS and ground reflector are connected through a circular ring-type conductor. An antenna, as an design example for the proposed antenna, is designed for the operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for terrestrial DTV. The antenna fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a size of $270mm{\times}150mm$ showed a good performance such as a frequency band of 470-820 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio < 2, a gain > 4.0 dBi, and a front-to-back ratio > 8.4 dB over the DTV frequency band.

  • A planar monopole antenna that was developed for WLAN/WiMAX application is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna with three strips, an asymmetrical ground plane, and a rectangular slit in the ground is designed to cover the popular frequency spectrum of WLAN (wireless local area network) bands and WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) bands. The proposed antenna, which is capable of wideband operation, is fed by a strip line and fabricated on an FR-4 substrate. The obtained numerical results agree well with the experiment data. It was validated that the configuration can meet the demands for the WLAN/WiMAX systems and effectively enhanced the impedance bandwidth to 9.95% for the lower band and 76.05% for the upper band for VSWR < 1 : 2. This paper also presents and discusses the 2D radiation patterns and 3D gains according to the results of the experiment.

  • AC railway feeding system use single phase to supply power to the railway vehicles. And the system use the rail track as a return current path, so that current flows in the rail. In this situation inductive interference on communication system and unsafe environment can appear on railway system. Therefore knowing the current distribution of catenary system and analysing the return current is required. In this study detail return current distribution was analyzed by modeling the catenary system as 4-conductors group. The distribution characteristics and trends of return current were studied by using the PSCAD/EMTDC and FDTD method that based on Maxwell equation was used to calculate the induced voltage. Simulation code was made by MATLAB. Using this study result data, we can suggest the proper installation location of digital device and these data can be used for additional studies related to return current or induced voltage as a base data.
