The objective of the present study is to identify the ventilation problems and to suggest the optimal ventilation system to save energy and to improve IAQ in the computer rooms, which annually performs the cooling operation by the server with the highly thermal load. Numerical results on the temperature and local mean age are presented along with some of the discharge velocities. Results show many interesting aspects of airflow patterns affecting the ventilation performances, according to the discharge velocity of the supply diffuser installed in the bottom surfaces between the servers. As the results, 2.5 m/s of the optimal discharge velocity is needed in order to improve the ventilation performance.

개방형 사무실 건물에서, 총 환기량이 적정할지라도 국부적으로 환기가 부족하거나 또는 과다한 작업공간들이 존재할 수 있다. 이것은 환기시스템을 설계할 때 작업공간의 배치와 관련된 정보를 활용하지 않기 때문이다. 모든 작업공간이 충분히 환기될 수 있도록 하기 위해서는 급기구나 배기구 그릴의 형태나 배치선정 등과 같은 다 양한 설계변수들이 작업공간의 HVAC 시스템의 성능에 미치는 영향을 파악하여야 한다. 본 원고는 최근 수행된 작업공간의 환기 성능에 관한 연구결과를 요약한 것이다.

In this study, numerical simulation has been conducted to investigate dispersion of a pollutant released from a new furniture, a kind of Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). A sofa which generates formaldehyde is implemented by using an immersed boundary method. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is employed to obtain time-dependent velocity and concentration fields. It is shown that the ventilation efficiency in this room can be improved by changing inlet angle of diffuser, even though other conditions still remain unchanged. Both active diffusion near a sofa and air flow pattern are important parameters to enhance the ventilation efficiency.
