  • It is investigated that that the physical properties of Glutathione layer formed on gold surfaces may make an effect on the distribution of either gold particle adsorbed to the $ZrO_2$ surface or vice versa with the adjustment of the electrostatic interactions. For the investigation, the atomic force microscope (AFM) was used to measure the surface forces between the surfaces as a function of the salt concentration and pH value. The forces were quantitatively analyzed with the Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) theory to estimate the surface potential and charge density of the surfaces for each condition of salt concentration and pH value. The estimated-value dependence on the salt concentration was described with the law of mass action, and the pH dependence was explained with the ionizable groups on the surface. The salt concentration dependence of the surface properties, found from the measurement at pH 4 and 8, was consistent with the prediction from the law. It was found that the Glutathione layer had higher values for the surface charge densities and potentials than the zirconium dioxide surfaces at pH 4 and 8, which may be attributed to the ionized-functional-groups of the Glutathione layer.

  • Surface morphology and preferred orientation of 20${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ gold electrodeposit formed from aqueous solution of the sodium gold sulfite were studied in terms of current density, plating temperature and Au concentration. As the current density changed from 13.0mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 4.6mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$, the solution temperature from 3$0^{\circ}C$ to 6$0^{\circ}C$, pH from 12.0 to 9.0, agitation speed from 0 rpm to 3200rpm and Au concentration from 10g/1 to 14 g/1, local Au concentration near the cathodic surface increased. With increasing the Au concentration, the surface morphology chanced from porous structure to fine-grained structure. Furthermore, it was observed that the preferred orentation of the Au layer changed from (111) to (220) upon the same variation In the Au concentration. The surface morphology and the preferred orientation of the Au layer were found to be closely related to each other.

  • We fabricated the textured silicon (Si) surface on Si substrates by the electrochemical etching using gold (Au) nanoparticle catalysts. The antireflective property of the fabricated Si nanostructures was improved. The Au nanoparticles of ~20-150 nm were formed by the rapid thermal annealing using thermally evaporated Au films on Si. In the chemical etching, the aqueous solution containing $H_2O_2$ and HF was used. In order to investigate the effect of electrochemical etching on the etching depth and reflectance characteristics, the sample was immersed in the aqueous etching solution for 1 min with and without applied cathodic voltages of -1 V and -2 V. As a result, the solar weighted reflectance, i.e., the averaged reflectance with considering solar spectrum (air mass 1.5), could be efficiently reduced for the electrochemically etched Si by applying the cathodic voltage of -2 V, which is expected to be useful for Si solar cell applications.

  • [ $C_{70}$ ]-gold nanoparticle multilayer films were self-assembled using a 'dirt-ball' method on the reactive surface of glass slides functionalized with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane. The functionalized glass slides were soaked in the solution containing both unmodified $C_{70}$ and ${\omega}$-amino-functionalized gold nanoparticles. Organic reaction (amination) facilitated the assembly of multilayer $C_{70}$-gold nanoparticle films, which have grown up to several layers. Chemical stability of $C_{70}$-gold nanoparticle films was studied by monitoring the changes in absorbance after the immersion of the films in acidic solution. In addition, ultrasonic stability of these nanoparticle films was studied by exposing them to ultrasonic irradiated surrounding, which resulted in partial desorption and a little aggregation of nanoparticles on solid surfaces.
