  • The purpose of this study was to examine factors relating intention of smoking cessation intervention among nursing students. The participants were 214 nursing students among two universities in B city and Y city. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Data were analyzed with t-test, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression by using SPSS 23.0 program. The significant factors relating intention of smoking cessation intervention were self-efficacy of smoking cessation intervention (${\beta}=.634$ p<.001), attitude of smoking cessation intervention (${\beta}=.191$, p=.002), and beliefs of health benefits of smoking cessation (${\beta}=.132$, p=.032). And these factors explained 65.2% of the variance in nursing students' intention to implement smoking cessation intervention. In conclusion, self-efficacy of smoking cessation intervention, attitude of smoking cessation intervention and beliefs of health benefits of smoking cessation had a significant positive influence on the intention to delivery smoking cessation intervention among nursing students. These finding can be used to develop evidence-based smoking cessation intervention training program for nursing students.

The data were collected from 529 nursing students being at three colleges in Gwangju city through structured questionnaire from 1 to 30 October 2012. In results, the smoking cessation recommendation showed statistically significant differences in grading, residence, subjective health perception, recognition about smoking, present smoking, assessment experience of smoking history, experience of smoking cessation recommendations, and participation intention of smoking cessation intervention education. The smoking cessation recommendation had correlated with smoking knowledge and smoking attitude. In multiple regression analysis, the participation intention of smoking cessation intervention education, the attitude and knowledge of smoking, and experience of smoking cessation recommendation were significant factors of the smoking cessation recommendation explaining 15.5% of the variables. To enhance recommendations of smoking cessation for patients, there are necessary to enforce smoking cessation intervention program for nursing students and increase the experience of smoking cessation intervention recommendation of nursing students in clinical practice.

  • The study was conducted as a quasi-experimental study targeting 60 patients with ischemic heart disease to determine how the smoking cessation program that uses telephone counseling and text messaging (short message) affects smoking cessation self-efficacy, nicotine dependence, co levels, and smoking cessation rate of the first, second experimental group at varying times of arbitration and control group. An examination of the effects of this program revealed the control group to have a significant increase in smoking cessation self-efficacy, smoking cessation rate than the first and second group but a significant decrease in the nicotine dependence, co levels. In addition, although the control group showed a significant increase in smoking cessation self efficacy, smoking cessation rate and a significant decrease in co levels than other groups, there was no difference in nicotine dependence. Therefore, a smoking cessation program that uses telephone counseling and text messaging (short message) for patients with ischemic heart disease worked for the smoking cessation rate and appeared to be more effective, depending on the times of arbitration.

  • This is a quasi-experimental study using the design before and after time gap of non-equivalence with comparative group performed to confirm the effects of END smoking cessation motivational program on the Carbon monoxide, Smoking Abstinence Self-efficiency, Days of smoking, Amount of smoking in the smoking high school students. The study subjects were the smoking students in a general high school located in C-City who were interested in the smoking cessation including 27 students in test group and 28 in the control group. Data collection period was from July 12 to October 4, 2018. END smoking cessation motivational program, the test intervention in this study, The study results are as follows. "There will be a difference of physiological factors between the test group that participates in END smoking cessation motivational program and the control group that does not" is supported. smoking cessation self-efficiency(z=110.00, p<.001), Days of smoking (z=640.00, p<.001), Daily smoking amount (z=520.50, p<.016), Considering these results, the application of this program is suggested to lower the smoking rate of the smoking high school students and to motivate the smoking cessation at the schools.

An experimental group (n=28) allocated into a smoking cessation healing camp which was provided for two days and one night. Effectiveness of the intervention was measured at soon after smoking cessation healing camp. There were significant differences between pre-test and post-test on readiness to quit smoking(t=-2.64, p=.013), smoking cessation self-efficacy(t=2.42, pp=.022), nicotine dependence(t=2.55, p=.017), and depression(t=2.85, p=.008). In conclusion, the smoking cessation healing camp is effective for male smokers in workplace settings by providing insightful antismoking information and encouraging smoking cessation self-efficacy and readiness to quit smoking.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to 1) find out the characteristic of smoke related characteristics of nurses. 2) find out the frequency of Smoking cessation intervention delivered by nurses. 3) compare the differences in mean scores of smoking cessation interventions by general characteristics. Method: The survey questionnaire was mailed out to nurses who were working at the randomly selected hospitals throughout the country from November 28, 2003 to February 15, 2004. Result: $0.6\%$ of nurses were current smokers $40.7\%$ of nurses have attended smoking cessation education. Nurses who were older, had masters degree, had oncology experience, higher position, participated in smoking cessation education, and had smoking related disease among family members were variables related to higher frequencies in delivering tobacco interventions. Conclusion: Although nurses are in an important position in delivering tobacco interventions and provide resources, their participation in consistent delivery of an intervention is less than desirable. To help nurses to participate in the assessment of tobacco use and interventions for cessation, the development of educational program is necessary.

  • Purpose: The specific aims of this study was to find out the barrier to smoking cessation intervention in clinical practice among clinical nurses and compare them in high barrier group with those in the low barrier group. Method: The sample of this study consisted of 738 nurses practicing in general hospitals with over 400 beds throughout the country. The questionnaire was adopted from the 'Oncology Nurse's Tobacco Control Survey' used in the United Stated by Sarna et al.(2001). Result: Age, marital status, hospital experience, position were the variables related to the mean score of subjective resource insufficiency. The perception that the patient was not motivated to quit smoking was the most commonly identified barrier in low barrier group and the second most common barrier in high barrier group. Conclusion: Younger, with less clinical experience, single, staff nurses were the characteristics of nurses in the high barrier group. The smoking cessation educational program should be targeted to these populations. Further research is needed to develope strategies to reduce the perception associated with barriers in delivery of tobacco cessation interventions.

  • This study is to identify the factors related to smokers' intention to quit smoking and the differences between male and female smokers. We used data from Community Health Survey of 2017 and a total of 39,435 participated in the study. It was analyzed through IBM SPSS Statistics 23.0 to conduct frequency analysis and binary logistic regression analysis. We found that gender, age, marital status, education, household income, subjective health, attempts to quit smoking, exposure to quit smoking campaigns, education to quit smoking, and number of cigarettes per day are related to the smokers' intention to quit smoking. For male smokers, education and household income are relevant to their intention to quit smoking, unlike female smokers. The findings suggest that smoking cessation campaigns and education are necessary for smokers with low level of education or income. Further, it indicates that gender differences should be taken into consideration upon intervention program.
