  • The radio frequency identification (RFID) technology allows various forms of applications in many industries including construction. and in Korea, RFID has already been adopted for the use in daily labor control, logistics monitoring of ready-mix concrete, supply chain management of long-lead items, such as structural steel members and curtain walls. Even though RFID tags have varied reading performances depending on various factors including material of tracking target and surrounding environment, there is no information on how much the reading performance of an RFID tag can be achieved against a specific construction components or materials. Therefore, the objective of this research is to identify the actual reading performance of various RFID technologies and to derive a method to maximize the reading performance for the use in the supply chain management process of curtain wall components.

  • The oxo-nitrosyl complexes (n-Bu4N)2[M4O12Mo(NO)2{RC(NH2)NHO}2{RC(NH)NO}2] (M=Mo, W; R=(CH3)2CH, n-CH3CH2CH2) have been prepared by the reactions of monomeric complex containing {Mo(NO)2}2+ and polyoxometalates with isobutyl- and n-butylamidoxime. The prepared complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and UV-visible spectroscopy. These complexes contain two {M2O5}2+ [M=Mo, W] cores and a central {Mo(NO)2}2+ core. The {Mo(NO)2}2+ unit was the formally cis type and C2v symmetry in geometric structure. The two {M2O5}2+ cores and a central {Mo(NO)2}2+ core were not nearly interacted with electronic localization, which were identified by spectroscopy.

  • This paper proposes the design scheme of internal triple band antenna intended for using in GSM900, DCS1800, and PCS1900 bands. The suggested folding metal plates of the two branches are mounted on a dielectric coated ground plane for size miniaturization and durability. Return losses are overlapped when length of metal branches are controlled. This is important technique for wide band operation. For the suggested antenna geometry its return loss was calculated by HFSS 9 simulator, and was shown to be -10 [dB] less within the required band. Also, gain and radiation pattern of antenna were measured using far field measurement system in an anechoic chamber. The measured peak gain is more than 3.0 [dBi], and the average gain is over -1.0 [dBi] for the triple band, which is regarded as satisfactory for the internal antenna application. Also, the radiation pattern for two frequencies shows a similar shape each other within the required band.

  • The application of series compensator in a power system affects other devices such as circuit breakers transient recovery voltage (TRV) problem. In this paper, we analyze the TRV effect on a line circuit breaker in the cases with and without thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) via simulation, and suggest an effective method to overcome the increase of TRV due to the TCSC installation. It also discusses the impact of proposed protection on metal oxide varistor (MOV). A 345 kV transmission line in Korea was selected as a study case. Grid system was modelled using PSCAD (Power Systems Computer Aided Design) / EMTDC(Electro Magnetic Transient Direct Current). The TRV was analyzed by implementing a short circuit fault along the transmission line and at the breaker terminal. The proposed protection scheme, the TRV satisfies the standard. However, the MOV energy capacity increased as the delay time increased. This result can solve the TRV problem caused by the expected transmission line fault in a practical power system.

  • The volatile organic compounds(VOCs) have been recognized as a major contributor to air pollution. The catalytic oxidation is one of the most important processes for VOCs destruction due to getting high efficiency at low temperature. In this study, monometallic Pt and bimetallic Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir were supported to ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. Xylene, toluene and MEK were used as reactants. The monometallic or bimetallic catalysts were prepared by the excess wetness impregnation method and were characterized by XRD, XPS, TEM and BET analysis. As a result, Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir bimetallic catalysts showed higher conversion than Pt monometallic catalyst. Pt-Ir bimetallic catalyst showed the highest conversion on the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. In the VOCs oxidation, Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir bimetallic catalyst had multipoint active sites, so it improved the range of Pt metal state. Therefore, bimetallic catalysts showed higher conversion of VOCs than monometallic ones. In this study, the use of small amount of Ru, Ir to Pt promoted oxidation conversion of VOCs.

  • Purpose: This study evaluated the bonding strength of direct relining resin to Co-Cr denture base material according to surface treatment and immersion time. Materials and methods: In this study, Co-Cr alloy was used in hexagon shape. Each specimen was cut in flat surface, and sandblasted with $110\;{\mu}m$ $Al_2O_3$ for 1 minute. 54 specimens were divided into 3 groups; group A-control group, group B-applied with surface primer A, group C-applied with surface primer B. Self curing direct resin was used for this study. Each group was subdivided into another 3 groups according to the immersion time. After the wetting storage, shear bond strength of the specimens were measured with universal testing machine. The data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance and Tukey post hoc method. Results: In experiment of sandblasting specimens, surface roughness of the alloy was the highest after 1 minute sandblasting. In experiment of testing shear bond strength, bonding strength was lowered on group B, C, A. There were significant differences between 3 groups. According to period, Bonding strength was the highest on 0 week storage group, and the weakest on 2 week storage group. But there were no significant differences between 3 periods. According to group and period, bonding strength of all group were lowered according to immersion time but there were no significant differences on group B and group C, but there was significant difference according to immersion time on group A. Conclusion: It is useful to sandblast and adopt metal primers when relining Co-Cr metal base dentures in chair-side.

  • The neutral monomeric compounds $[Mo(NO)_2Cl_2(phen)]$ and $[W(NO)_2Cl_2(phen)]$ (phen= 1,10-phenanthroline) have been prepared by reactions of polymeric compounds $[{Mo(NO)_2Cl_2}n],\;[{W(NO)_2Cl_2}n]$ with chelate ligands. Additions of one equivalent of silver(I) perchlorate to these cis-dinitrosyl compounds in acetone solution produce $[Mo(NO)_2(phen)(S)Cl][ClO_4]\;and\;[W(NO)_2(phen)(S)Cl][ClO_4]$ (S = acetone). The homo- and hetero-dinuclear complexes, $[Cl(phen)(NO)_2M(pyz)M'(NO)_2(phen)Cl][ClO_4]_2$ (M = Mo, W) and $[Cl(phen)(NO)_2M(pyz)M'(NO)_2(phen)Cl][C1O_4]_2$ (M = Mo, M' = W) have been prepared by these monocationic complexes with pyrazine ligand respectively. These complexes characterized by elemental analysis, $1^H-\;and\;^{13}C-NMR$, infrared, and UV-visible spectroscopy are reported. The spectral data indicate that homo- and hetero-dinuclear complexes were symmetrical structures of $C_{2v}$.

  • The combustion chamber and nozzle of a liquid rocket engine need thermal protection against the high temperature combustion gas. The nozzle extension of a high-altitude engine also has to be compatible with high temperature environment and several kinds of cooling methods including gas film cooling, ablative cooling and radiative cooling are used. Especially for an upper-stage nozzle extension having a large expansion ratio, the weight impact on the launcher performance is crucial and it necessitated the development of light-weight refractory material. The present survey on the nozzle extension materials employed in the liquid rocket engines of USA, Russia and European Union has revealed a trend that the heavier metals like stainless steels and titanium alloys are being substituted with light weight carbon fiber or ceramic matrix composite materials.

  • This paper presents a concept of a pressure tube-type water-cooled reactor without the emergency core cooling system. It adopts an innovative fuel channel design using metallic fuel matrix to improve heat transfer from fuel to moderator at loss of coolant cooling. The heat produced in the fuel is cooled by the coolant system during normal operation, but by the passive moderator system at loss of coolant cooling including the loss-of-coolant accident(LOCA). Simple analysis shows that the fuel channel temperature can be maintained within the permissible range for both normal operation and a complete LOCA.
