Influence of heat treatment on corrosion properties of Al-Mg alloy films (Al-Mg 합금막의 부식특성에 미치는 열처리의 영향)

  • 본 연구에서는 진공증착을 이용하여 제작한 Al-Mg막을 $400^{\circ}C$에서 각각 2, 3, 10분간 열처리를 실시하였다. 합금화 정도는 GDLS와 XRD를 이용하여 표면 및 단면의 조성 분포를 분석하였으며, 염수분무시험을 통하여 내식성과의 연관성을 검토하였다. 열처리를 하지 않은 합금막의 경우 열처리를 한 경우와 비교하여 표면 및 단면에 순수한 Al 또는 Mg이 존재하여 내식성이 상대적으로 우수하였다. 열처리 결과 Al-Mg계 금속간 화합물 $Al_3Mg_2$$Al_{12}Mg_{17}$이 관찰되었다.

A Study on the Influence of Corrosion of Metals and Plants through Aerosol Type Spraying of Agricultural Pesticide Products Containing Insecticide Ingredients (살충제 성분이 함유된 농약제품의 에어로졸 분사에 따른 금속 및 식물의 부식 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, serious problems occurred such as insecticide eggs, sanitary pads with carcinogens, radon(Rn) emitting beds in domestic. It had not been establishing the inspection system to evaluate safety and human harmfulness before occurring real accidents. This research was conducted to test preliminary experimental inspection for consideration of safety insensibility. The influence of corrosion of metals and plants was studied through aerosol type spraying of agricultural pesticide products coming into the market. These products contain primary three insecticide ingredients(Flufenoxuron, Etoxazole, Fipronil) in recent accidents. Visual examination, SEM-EDS and optical microscope were used for the analysis for corrosion effect. Results show that a lot of ingredients contain in the crop protection products, and various type of corrosion exist in the surface of metals and plants. Therefore, it is necessary to provide health warning and accurate range of use for crop protection products containing insecticide ingredients.

  • Arc thermal spray process is widely used to protect the steel from corrosion and abrasion. In the present study, two different coatings i.e. Al and Al-5%Mg were used to compare their corrosion resistance performance and the effect of 5% Mg addition in the properties of deposited coating. The SEM results showed the more compact and less porous morphology of Al-5%Mg coating compared to Al. The corrosion resistance performance of both deposited coatings was studied in artificial ocean water with exposure periods and results are compared. The total impedance values of Al-5%Mg at 0.01 Hz exhibited highest with exposure periods might be attributed to the coating and corrosion products nature and morphology compared to Al coating.

  • Corrosion of the steel rebar in coastal environment caused huge economical loss of the globe. Therefore, coating on the steel rebar being used to mitigate the corrosion. In the present study, we have applied epoxy coating on arc thermal sprayed Al coating (a dual metal/polymeric coating) vis-à-vis compared with as coated one (Al coating). The corrosion studies were performed in simulated concrete pore solution with 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution. The morphology of the dual epoxy/Al coating is smooth while Al coating shows rankle and defects. Due to defects, Al coating is susceptible to corrosion while dual epoxy/Al coating has performed excellent compared to as coated one at extended period of immersion.

Spalling of Intermetallic Compound during the Reaction between Electroless Ni(P) and Lead-free Solders (무전해 Ni(P)과 무연솔더와의 반응 중 금속간화합물의 spalling 현상에 관한 연구)

  • Electroless Ni(P) has been widely used for under bump metallization (UBM) of flip chip and surface finish layer in microelectronic packaging because of its excellent solderability, corrosion resistance, uniformity, selective deposition without photo-lithography, and also good diffusion barrier. However, the brittle fracture at solder joints and the spatting of intermetallic compound (IMC) associated with electroless Ni(P) are critical issues for its successful applications. In the present study, the mechanism of IMC spatting and microstructure change of the Ni(P) film were investigated with varying P content in the Ni(P) film (4.6,9, and $13 wt.\%$P). A reaction between Sn penetrated through the channels among $Ni_3Sn_4$ IMCs and the P-rich layer ($Ni_3P$) of the Ni(P) film formed a $Ni_3SnP$ layer. Thickening of the $Ni_3SnP$ layer led to $Ni_3Sn_4$ spatting. After $Ni_3Sn_4$ spatting, the Ni(P) film directly contacted the molten solder and the $Ni_3P$ phase further transformed into a $Ni_2P$ phase. During the crystallization process, some cracks formed in the Ni(P) film to release tensile stress accumulated from volume shrinkage of the film.

Wear Characteristics of Cylinder-Liner Materials for Diesel Engine at Elevated Temperature (디젤엔진용 실린더 라이너 소재의 고온 마모특성)

  • In a diesel engine, the wear of the cylinder liner occurs because of the continuous reciprocating motion of the piston ring. This wear reduces the performance of the diesel engine and shortens its service life. This study evaluated the wear characteristics of GT metal and a conventional metal used for cylinder liners using a ship's diesel engine. Wear tests were performed at temperatures of $25^{\circ}C$, $175^{\circ}C$, and $325^{\circ}C$, and under loads of 10 N, 30 N, and 50 N. The amount of wear, specific wear rate, and friction coefficient were evaluated for each condition. To analyze the wear mechanism, observations were made on an SEM. In the case of both metals, abrasive and adhesion wear occurred on the wear surfaces at room temperature, and corrosion wear was observed at high temperatures. The amount of wear and the specific wear rate of the GT metal were lower than those of the conventional metal at all temperatures, and hence it can be concluded that the wear characteristics of the GT metal are much better.

Characteristics of LSC coated Metallic Interconnect for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (LSC가 코팅된 고체산화물 연료전지용 금속연결재의 특성 연구)

  • This study reports the high-temperature oxidation kinetics, ASR(area specific resistance), and interfacial microstructure of metallic interconnects coated with conductive oxides in oxidation atmosphere at $800^{\circ}C$, The conductive material LSC($La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CoO_3$, prepared by Solid State Reaction) was coated on the Crofer22APU. The contact behavior of coating layer/metal substrate was increased by sandblast. The electrical conductivity of the LSC coated Crpfer22APU was measured by a DC two probe four wire method for 4000hr, in air at $800^{\circ}C$. Microstructure and composition of the coated layer interface were investigated by SEM/EDS. These results show that a coated LSC layer prevents the formation and growth of oxide scale such as $Cr_2O_3$ and enhances the long-term stability and electrical performance of metallic interconnects for SOFCs.

  • Leakage trouble on the sea water pipeline in engine room is often resulted from a localized corrosion due to severe corrosive environment caused by both high speed and high pressure of sea water flowing through the inner pipe. In addition, when the ship is in stand-by or emergency condition, underwater welding to control the leakage of sea water from a hole of its pipe is very important in an industrial safety point of view. In this study possibility of underwater welding to control leakage of sea water and corrosion property of its welding zone were investigated with the electrochemical methods by parameters of welding methods and welding electrodes when underwater welding is achieved with a such case that sea water is being leaked out with a height at 50mm from a hole of $2.5mm{\emptyset}$ of test pipe. Corrosion resistance of weld metal zone is better than the base metal and its hardness is higher than that of the base metal. However corrosion potential of weld metal zone showed a negative value than that of the base metal, therefore weld metal zone is preferentially corroded rather than the base metal by performance of galvanic cell due to difference of corrosion potential between weld metal zone and base metal. Eventually it is suggested that leakage of sea water is successfully controlled by underwater welding,

  • Among the various test methods for stress corrusiun cracking(SCC) susceptibility evaluatiun, the slow stram rate test(SSHT) method is a rapid and effective nwthod to evaluate the SCC susceptibility of metal in relatively short time. But it is very difficult to analyze the microfracture behaviors in SCC process by using the test(SSRT) method only. Up to now, it has been well known that the acoustic emission(AE) test is the effective technique to monitor the microcrack initiation and propagation in material fracture pmcess. Therefore. in this paper, we analyzed the correlation between the see process and the characteristics of AE signal by using the SSHT and the AE test. According to the test results. the AE signals produced from the material microfracture were clearly depended on the test environment. The AE signal characteristics generated during see process in synthetic sea water were comparatively greater than those. in air. In addition, the SCC behaviors could be definitely evaluated by the amplitude parameter of AE signals.

  • When an underground pipeline runs parallel with DC electric railways, it suffers from electrolytic corrosion caused by the stray current leaked from the railway negative returns, i.e., the rails. Perforation due to the electrolytic corrosion may bring about large-scale accidents even under cathodically protected condition. Traditionally, drainage bonding methods have been widely used as a mitigation method for stray current interference. In particular, the increased adoption of forced drainage method to gas pipelines makes the interference much more sophisticated. In this paper, we analyze the electric interference between pipelines and railways from the results of field investigation carried out in Seoul and Busan.
