Pd/C catalysts were prepared by various preparation methods such as ion exchange, impregnation and polyol method and also characterized by nitrogen adsorption-desorption isothermal, XRD, FE-TEM and CO-chemisorption. The activities of these catalysts were tested in the hydrogenation of cyclohexene to cyclohexane. Catalytic activities of Pd/C catalysts were found to be effected by the chosen preparation methods. Pd dispersions of each Pd/C catalysts prepared by ion exchange, impregnation and polyol method were 17.55, 13.82% and 1.35%, respectively, confirmed by CO-chemisorption analysis. These were also in good agreement with the FE-TEM results. The Pd/C catalyst prepared by ion exchange method exhibits good performance with the cyclohexene conversion rate of 71% for 15 min. These results indicate that Pd/C catalyst having higher dispersion and lower particle size is in favor of hydrogenation cyclohexene and also Pd dispersion increases with the increment of catalytic activity.
The periapical response to injury is a complex interaction of inflammatory, immune, neural, vascular and synthetic activity. TGF-${\beta}$ is a potent modulator of proliferation and differentiation in various tissue, seems to lead to an increase in extracellular matrix. MMP are a family of proteolytic enzyme that mediate the degradation of extracellular matric macromolecules, but little is known about theirs possible role in periapical tissue. The purpose of this study is to investigate the differential expression of TGF-${\beta}$ and MMP-1 in tooth follicle, periapical abscess, granuloma and cyst. The expression of TGF-${\beta}$ and MMP-1 in Periapical tissue was evaluated by immunohistochemical staining and Western blot analysis. Correlationship among the periapical lesions were stastically analyzed. The degree of MMP-1 expression in periapical abscess was higher than in any other periapical lesion, and stastically significant. TGF-${\beta}$ expression is the prominent in granuloma than other periapical lesion, which was stastically significant. The increased expression of MMP and TGF-${\beta}$ was not co-related with inflammatory cell infiltration degree of the periapical cyst. The expression degree of MMP and TGF-${\beta}$ was not co-related with periapical abscess and cyst, but expression of MMP and TGF-${\beta}$ showed strong positive co-relationship with periapical granuloma, which was stastically significant. TGF-${\beta}$ expression by Western blot analysis was prominent in granuloma and cyst, and similar to the results by imunohistochemistry. MMP-1 expression is less than TGF-${\beta}$, but there is not extreme difference between periapical lesion. These results suggest that TGF-${\beta}$ and MMP may be involved in tissue remodeling and has an important role in progress or mediation of periapical lesions.
The production of gluconic acid from glucose by the resting cell system of Aspergillus niger was studied. It was found that the conversion products from glucose by the resting cell system were markedly influenced by the pH, temperature, substrate concentration, aeration, metal ions, cultivation time and storage conditions of the resting cells. Conversion products were identified as gluconic acid by the thin layer chromatography and infrared spectrophotometry. These conversions were greatly stimulated by addition of $Mg^{++}$, and S $n^{++}$, but showed inhibitory effects by C $u^{++}$, H $g^{++}$, C $d^{++}$, A $g^{+}$ and cyanide. For the optimum cell storage, it was effective to be kept at -$25^{\circ}C$ in 0.05M phosphate buffer solution of pH 7.0. The gluconic acid production by the resting cell system was more effective than those of the fermentation with respect to cultivation time, yield, recovery and re-use of the cell.l.l.l.l.l.l.
The microwave plasma and catalytic reaction have been employed to investigate the activation of methane to hydrogen and higher hydrocarbons at low gas temperature. The catalytic activity of Fe, Ni, Pt Pd metal catalysts were also studied in this reaction system. With increasing plasma power at a $CH_{4}$ flow rate of 20 ml/min, C2+ products increased from 29 to $42\%$, whereas hydrogen from 60 to $65\%$. When catalysts were loaded below the plasma region, the selectivitity of ethylene md acetylene increased but the yield of C2+ products remained constant. The usage of ECR electric fie3d and Pd-Ni bimetal catalyst produced a minimum C2+ yield of $64\%$.
The production of sorbose from sorbitol in resting cell system of Acetobacter suboxydans was studied. The conversion of sorbose from sorbitol was markedly influenced by several factors such as the substrate concentration, reaction time, temperature, pH, metal ions, growth factors and aeration in the resting cells. Sorbose production rapidly increased in the range of 6 mg/ml cells with the concentration of 5% sorbitol. For production of sorbose from sorbitol, optimal temperature and pH were $30^{\circ}C$ and 6.0. The production of sorbose from sorbitol was activated by 1 mM of $Al^{+3}$ while inhibited by $Ni^{+2}$. The conversion of sorbitol to sorbose was stimulated by the adding of 1 mM p-aminobenzoic acid and nicotinic acid, respectively. During incubation of 1.5 ml of reaction mixture in 50 ml of Erlenmeyer flask, 5% sorbitol was completly converted to sorbose after 20 hours.

In recent days, the consumption of stainless steel in the propulsion shafting systems for small-medium class vessel is increased due to its high corrosion protection with wear resistant properties. Unfortunately the small and medium class vessel that operated in the west-south sea area of Korean peninsula experienced heavy wear down due to the role of mud. In the event of wear or broken down, the propeller shaft must be replaced by new one, but the new shaft is very expensive and time-consuming for order made supply. In this case, the methods of built up for wear and broken shaft by welding is one of the most effective cases. In this study, the built up welding for austenitic stainless steel shaft has been accomplished by various pre-surface treatment, welding methods, post heattreatment and inspection. The results confirmed that the built-up welding was one of the effective methods for stainless steel shafting.
The molecular weight of the purified $\beta$-galactosidase of Penicillium sp. was estimated to be 130000 by both Sephadex G-200 gel filtration and SDS-polyacrylamide del electrophoresis. The SDS-electrophoresis gave two protein bands corresponding to the two molecular weights of 130000 and 70000. These results indicated that the enzyme consisted of two probably identical subunits which had a molecular weight of 70000. The optimum pH of the enzyme activity was 4.7 and maximum activity appeared at 5$0^{\circ}C$. The stable pH range for the enzyme was from 4.5 to 7.0. The purified $\beta$-galactosidase had no metal ion requirement for its activity or stability. The enzyme activity was inhibited by C $u^{++}$(1mM)and galactose (100mM). The hydrolysis of lactose in 5% lactose solution, pasteurized milk and 10% skim milk solution were 69.5%, 88.7% and 72.6% after 4 hr incubation at 5$0^{\circ}C$, when 10 units of $\beta$-glucosidase were used per $m\ell$ of the substrate solutions.s.
