Comparison of MODIS Land Surface Temperature and Inland Water Temperature (내륙 수온과 MODIS 지표 온도 데이터의 비교 평가)

  • This paper aims to analyze the root mean square errors of MODIS LST data and inland water temperature measurement data in order to use MODIS LST data as an input of numerical weather prediction model. MODIS LST data from July 2011 to June 2012 were compared to water temperature measurement data in the automated water quality measurement network. MODIS data have two composites: day-time and night-time. Monthly errors of day-time and night-time LST range $2{\sim}8^{\circ}C$ and $3{\sim}12^{\circ}C$, respectively. Temporally, monthly errors of day-time LST are less in fall and those of night-time LST are less in summer. Spatially, on the four major rivers including the Han, Nakdong, Geum, and Yeongsan rivers, the errors of Yeongsan river were the smallest, which location is the south-most among them. In this study, the errors of MODIS LST as an input of numerical weather prediction model were analyzed and the results can be used as an error level of MODIS LST data for inaccessible areas such as North Korea.

Morphometrical characteristics of River Meandering (하천 사행의 계량형태학적 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the meander charactericstics for the rivers in Korea..In this study, the new characteristics factors of meander are proposed, and the relationships among the factors proposed in this study and the existing factors are derived. An attempt is made to find considerable relation among meander characteristics, but width and meander belt did not show any defined trend and considerable scatter of points was observed. Relationships among the meander length, belt and flowrate, etc., which are factors of meander characteristics, are analyzed the 67 rivers above 30km in length. Channel shape factor which is the ratio of the length from the starting point to the end to the channel lenght, tortuosity which is the ratio of the curved channel length against the channel length are suggested for a new characteristics factor of meander. They are well correlated with channel length, Horton's shape facotr and meander gradient, consequently have to be important measures of river meander. The result of the detailed comparison and the analysis of degree of sinuosity, velocity and water surface slop are brought light on the fact show that the curved reach is morestable than the straight one. The ratio of the meander length to the meander belt and its accumulative frequency showed excellent correlationship when plotted on the semi-log paper. The results of regression analysis of meander belt and meander length show linear for the South Han river branches and power curve for the Geum river and the Nakdong river branches.

Assessment of the Potential Water Supply Rate of Agricultural Irrigation Facilities Using MODSIM - For Geum River Basin - (MODSIM을 이용한 농업용 수리시설의 용수공급율 평가 - 금강권역을 중심으로 -)

  • To prepare for agricultural droughts, the potential discharge to the water supply of irrigation facilities during drought periods is important. Using the MODSIM (Modified SIMYLD) model, water balance networks that consider irrigation facilities were designed for the Geum River Basin, and the potential discharge to the agricultural water supply of irrigation facilities were evaluated by running the model using data for 36 years (1967-2002). It was found that agricultural water deficiencies occurred during the drought years more than in the other years. The agricultural water deficiencies in 1994, 1995, and 2001, the representative drought years, were 745.8 million m$^3$, 661.1 million m$^3$, and 696.8 million m$^3$, respectively. The average potential discharge to the water supply of the sub-basin was 99.1 % in the cases of municipal and industrial water, and 84.4 % in the case of agricultural water. The potential discharge to the water supply in 1994, 1995, and 2001 were 74.8 %, 79.2 %, and 77.9 %, respectively, which are lower than those of the other years' sub-basin average. In the analysis of the contribution of each irrigation facility, the contributions of pumping stations and diversions were calculated as 32.5 %, and of culverts and wells, 4.0 %. During the drought periods, the pumping stations and diversions contributed to a certain level.

Seepage Behaviors of Enlargement Levee Containing Box Culvert Constructed on Soft Ground (연약지반에 설치된 배수통문을 포함하는 하천 보축제체의 수문 위치에 따른 침투 거동)

  • In the case of the enlargement levee on the soft foundation, the existing levee and the enlargement levee connection can be damaged due to heterogeneous subsidence such as differential settlement at the joint of the box culvert passing through the levee. This study selected the downstream region of the Geum River and then confirmed the influence of the piping possibility on the levee by performing a 2D seepage analysis and analyzing the seepage tendency according to the position of the box culvert's gate. As a result, the flow velocity and the hydraulic gradient are larger in the upper breakage than the lower breakage, and the upper leak was more vulnerable to the piping than the lower leak. If leaks occur in the gate located on the riverside land, the risk of piping is increased when the water level rises and is maintained highly. In the case of the gate located on the inland, it could be predicted that the leakage could damage the stability of levee by increasing the water pressure inside the levee. As a result, if leakage occurs at any position in the box culvert, the pore water pressure is increased or decreased compared with the case when no leakage occurs. Therefore, if the pore water pressure is drastically reduced or increased compared with the normal case, leakage may occur. However, the result of this study is based on a 2D seepage analysis, and it is likely to be different from actual cases. Therefore, more detailed analysis by 3D analysis is recommended.

Development of a Closed Roof Model for Liquid Manure Storage Tanks to Prevent Corrosion and Atmospheric Diffusion of Oder Gases (부식과 악취가스 대기확산 방지를 위한 액비저장조 밀폐형 지붕모델 개발)

  • The roof structural model of liquid manure storage tank was designed to improve a structural safety and an ability of resistance to corrosion by the bad environmental condition with high humidity and high gas concentration. Due to corrosion of a general steel, the 5 years used materials were reduced to one-third of a new material in the result of a bending strength test. Some structural materials were tested to evaluate a strength and an anti-corrosion, and stainless steel pipe (STS439), steel angle with zinc hot dipping, rectangular steel pipe covered with FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics) resin were selected finally. A stainless steel is more expansive about $3{\sim}5$ times than general structural steel. But its durability under heavy corrosive environment is expected twice as long as general steel. The roof models were designed as closed cone type for each of the three structural materials. In the result of a FEM (Finite Element Method) structural analysis for the developed models, the safe snow depth was higher 2.3 times than a general roof structure, when elements of equal section modulus were used.

Fluctuation of Fish Community and Inhabiting Status of Introduced fish in Gangeungnamdae Stream, Korea (강릉남대천의 어류군집 변화 및 도입어종의 서식 현황)

  • The fish community and inhabiting status of introduced fish were surveyed at nine stations of Gangeungnamdae stream from September 2013 to May 2014. A total of 36 species of fourteen families were collected from the survey stations and among them, Pungitius sinensis was identified as endangered species. There were nine Korean endemic species (25%) including Coreoleuciscus splendidus. Dominant species were Rhynchocypris steindachneri (St. 1), Zacco koreanus (St. 2, 4, 5, 6), Ladislabia taczanowskii (St. 3)), Zacco platypus (St. 7, 8) and Tribolodon hakonensis (St. 9). Of the 11 introduced species fishes in Gangeungnamdae stream, L. taczanowskii, Pungtungia herzi, Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Squalidus gracilis majimae, Pseudogobio esocinus, Rhynchocypris kumgangensis, Z. platypus, Z. koreanus, Koreocobitis rotundicaudata, Liobagrus andersoni and Coreoperca herzi were released from Han river water zone in Korean. Rapidly expanded population and distribution of introduces fishes were Z. platypus, Z. koreanus, P. herzi and S. gracilis majimae, but L. taczanowskii, C. splendidus, R. kumgangensis were not rapidly expanded population. Settlement but very small population fishes were C. herzi and L. andersoni. When reduced 3% fishes of relative abundance with previous data (1973), R. steindachneri, Orthrias toni, Iksookimia pacifica, Plecoglossus altivelis, P. sinensis and Gymnogobius urotaenia, and R. steindachneri was most reduced from 56.1% to 12.9%.

Outlook of Discharge for Daecheong and Yongdam Dam Watershed Using A1B Climate Change Scenario Based RCM and SWAT Model (A1B기후변화시나리오 기반 RCM과 SWAT모형을 이용한 대청댐 및 용담댐 유역 유출량 전망)

  • In this study, the future expected discharges are analyzed for Daecheong and Yongdam Dam Watershed in Geum River watershed using A1B scenario based RCM with 27 km spatial resolutions from Korea Meteorological Agency and SWAT model. The direct use of GCM and RCM data for water resources impact assessment is practically hard because the spatial and temporal scales are different. In this study, the problems of spatial and temporal scales were settled by the spatial and temporal downscaling from watershed scale to weather station scale and from monthly to daily of RCM grid data. To generate the detailed hydrologic scenarios of the watershed scale, the multi-site non-stationary downscaling method was used to examine the fluctuations of rainfall events according to the future climate change with considerations of non-stationary. The similarity between simulation and observation results of inflows and discharges at the Yongdam Dam and Daecheong Dam was respectively 90.1% and 84.3% which shows a good agreement with observed data using SWAT model from 2001 to 2006. The analysis period of climate change was selected for 80 years from 2011 to 2090 and the discharges are increased 6% in periods of 2011~2030. The seasonal patterns of discharges will be different from the present precipitation patterns because the simulated discharge of summer was decreased and the discharge of fall was increased.

Determining proper threshold levels for hydrological drought analysis based on independent tests (수문학적 가뭄 특성 분석을 위한 독립성 검정 기반의 적정 임계수준 결정)

  • Hydrological drought is directly associated with lack of available water in rivers, reservoirs, and groundwater. It is important to analyze hydrological drought for efficient water resource management because most of rainfall is concentrated in wet seasons and water supply is highly dependent on dams and reservoirs in South Korea. Generally, a threshold level method is useful for defining hydrological droughts. However, this method causes interdependent problems between drought events which result in skewed results in further statistical analysis. Therefore, it is necessary to determine a proper threshold level to represent regional drought characteristics. In this study, applying 50~99 percentiles of daily flow-duration curve, hydrological drought events were extracted, and independence tests were conducted for 12 watersheds. The Poisson independence test showed that 87~99 percentiles were available for most stations except for Yeoju and Pyeongtaek. The generalized Pareto independence test showed that 80~90 percentiles were the most common. Mean excess plot showed that 80 ~ 90 percentiles were the most common. Therefore, the common ranges of the three independent tests were determined for each station and proper threshold levels were recommended for large river basins; 70~76 percentiles for the Han River basin, 87~91 percentiles for the Nakdong River basin, 86~98 percentiles for the Geum River basin, and 85~87 percentiles for the Youngsan and Seomjin River basin.

The Development of N2O Emission Factor at Municipal Solid Waste Incinerator (도시고형폐기물 소각시설의 N2O 배출계수 개발)

  • In this study, nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) emission concentration was measured 3 times continuously for 24 hours from August 27, 2018 to October 22, 2018 and non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) spectrometer was used to calculate $N_2O$ concentration of exhaust gas from municipal solid waste (MSW) incinerator. As a result of $N_2O$ emission characteristics, it is estimated that $N_2O$ emission concentration is due to the difference of furnace temperature, oxygen concentration rather than the chemical component of waste. The measured $N_2O$ emission concentration of MSW incinerator was obtained in the range of 53.6 ~ 59.5 ppm and the total average concentration was measured 55.6 ppm. Therefore, the amount of $N_2O$ emissions calculated from the $N_2O$ concentration was $98.05kg\;day^{-1}$ on average and the amount of $N_2O$ distribution in the range of $90.41{\sim}108.44kg\;day^{-1}$ was obtained. As a result, the $N_2O$ emission factor of the MSW incinerator was estimated to be $1,066.13g_{N_2O}\;ton_{waste^{-1}}$. The estimated $N_2O$ emission factor of the MSW incinerator was 20 times higher than calculated emission factor used in the Tier 2 method. Consequently, it is considered that the method of calculating the amount of $N_2O$ emission in the MSW incineration facilities using waste type and incineration amount needs to be supplemented to ensure accuracy.

Shear Strength of SFRC Deep Beam with High Strength Headed Reinforcing Tensile Bars (고강도 확대머리 인장철근을 가지는 SFRC 깊은 보의 전단강도)

  • Shear experiments were carried out to evaluate shear performance of SFRC deep beams with end-anchorage of SD600 high strength headed reinforcing tensile bars. The experimental variables include the end-anchorage methods of tensile bars (headed bar, straight bar), the end-anchorage lengths, and the presence of shear reinforcement. Specimens with a shear span ratio of 1 showed a pattern of the shear compression failure with the slope cracks progressed after the initial bending crack occurred. Specimens with end-anchorage of headed bars (H-specimens) showed a larger shear strengths of 5.6% to 22.4% compared to straight bars (NH-specimens). For H-specimens, bearing stress reached 0.9 to 17.2% of the total stress of tensile bars up to 75% of the maximum load, and reached 22.4% to 46%. This shows that the anchorage strength due to the bearing stress of headed bars has a significant effect on shear strength. The experimental shear strength was 2.68 to 4.65 times the theoretical shear strength by the practical method, and the practical method was evaluated as the safety side.
