Writing Discourse Study in a Group of Professionals: Focusing on YouTube (전문가 집단의 글쓰기 담론 연구: 유튜브(YouTube)를 중심으로)

  • This paper analyzed the discourse on writing by experts such as writers, novelists, and writing instructors appearing in YouTube videos through narrative analysis methods. According to the analysis, the five key topics comprising writing discourse were: Active reading for writing, Nonstop writing and writing more, Rewriting 10 times more than talent, Writing in spoken language in the era of one-person media, Sharing feedback on social media. The writing discourse of professionals illustrated the change in writing in the age of social media. First, it was confirmed that the writing culture shifted from reading to writing and rewriting. Second, writing in the social media era naturally showed that the spoken language of writing became the dominant code. Third, it has been confirmed that writing in the social media era is social writing of cooperation and sharing that openly share feedback. These findings will have significant implications for future research on media and writing

Descriptive Perspective and Writing Method in Yeheon's Piranrok (여헌(旅軒) 장현광(張顯光)의 『피란록(避亂錄)』에 나타난 서술시각과 글쓰기 방식)

  • This is the paper on the descriptive perspective and writing method in Yeheon(旅軒)'s Piranrok(避亂錄). Piranrok was Yeheon's diary which was written during Japanese invasions of Korea. Many intellectual recorded their diaries during the war. Yeheon's Piranrok was a typical example among war journals. I tried to take view of the descriptive perspective and writing method in Yeheon's Piranrok. First, sourceful introspection was distinct characteristic in the descriptive perspective. Yeheon penetrated into a chaotic state of affairs during Japanese invasions of Korea. And Yeheon had reflective consciousness about self-existence. He contemplated his existence through diary writing. I had a task to study the writing methods in Yeheon's diary. One of the distinct characteristic in writing methods was to increase specific gravity of discussion. Yeheon advocated strongly his opinion and position about cause of war, war responsibility, morality, fortification and righteous army. Yeheon made the best use of communication method and catechetic method. He answered his own questions about the enter and retirement of public office. He expressed his worry and conflict through various techniques of expression. I have a task to study the diary in Chosun dynasty. I believe that analyzing characteristics of Yeheon's diary can contribute to understanding the literature history of diaries in Chosun dynasty.

A Study on 'Language-Letter' images and politics of 'écriture' in Kim, Soo-Yung's poems (김수영 시의 '언어-문자' 이미지와 '에크리튀르'의 정치학)

  • This paper examines ${\acute{e}}pist{\acute{e}}m{\grave{e}}$ of ${\acute{e}}criture$ and its politics in Kim, Soo-Yung's poems, focusing on 'language-letter' images such as "speech", "language", "printing type", "letter", "brush", "book" and so on. While the previous papers fail to present the overall framework of analysis on 'language-${\acute{e}}criture$' images and to show political dimensions of discourse analysis, this paper tries to overcome these limitations. It explains images of 'speech' and 'language' on the basis of Heidegger's ontological thought, and analyzes writing-images such as 'type', 'letters' using Derrida's concepts of 'archi-${\acute{e}}criture$' and '${\acute{e}}criture$'. It also gives a new name to multiple images of 'book' in his poems as 'politics of ${\acute{e}}criture$' based on problematic such as Badiou's 'ethics of truths' and Derrida's '${\acute{e}}criture$'.

An Age of Essays: Memoirs, Philosophical essays and Essays of the 1960s (수필의 시대: 1960년대 수기, 수상, 에세이 -김형석, 안병욱, 김태길의 수필을 중심으로)

  • This article aimed to looked back at the 1960s, which were assessed to be 'the age of essays', to survey denotations of essays, amplified by the discourse antagonism surrounding 'essays' and the writings of philosophers. Kim Hyeong Suk, Ahn Byeong Uk, and Kim Te Gil were philosophy professors of Yonsei University, Soongshil University, and Seoul National University and writers of numerous essay collections of the 1960s. However, there have been very few studies conducted on them. This is because of old prejudices within literary history that primarily undervalue essays and practices that try to limit them as 'Literariness'. Essays of the 1960s became the flavor of the times based on democratic demands that attempted to objectify individual experiences and grounds that passed through the war and the April 19 Revolution. The language of philosophers was expropriated through the various senses of first person writing to readers of the times, which lacked civil culture and national morality. Deficits in public spheres of the 1950s and 1960s were filled by Kim Hyeong Suk's narrations of comfort and conquest based on historic experiences, Ahn Byeong Uk's logic of self-discipline and knowledge based on democracy, and Kim Te Gil's humor and introspection that objectified the lives of the petit bourgeois. However, as the essays of philosophers failed to connect with the public discourse of the age, they were unable to go as far as sparking or serving as a medium for civil culture in the 1970s. Regardless, as essays rose historically in the 1960s, thought was given to the characteristics of the 'essay' genre and in connection, to the merits and demerits of cultural history that possesses the language of philosophers.

A Study on Experiences of Social Welfare Qualitative Researchers in Korea : Focus on the Rigor (한국 사회복지학에서의 질적 연구 경험에 관한 연구 : 엄격성을 중심으로)

  • This study explores actual conditions and experiences on the rigor of social welfare qualitative researchers in Korea by using a qualitative inquiry. To examine the actual conditions on the rigor, this study analyzes 2,112 articles published in 8 Korean social work journals from 1979 to 2006. And to explores the experiences of social welfare qualitative researcher on the rigor, this study analyzes the experiences of qualitative research by using individual interviews and focus group interviews. The characteristics of social welfare qualitative research in Korea tend to enlarge according to the needs by doctoral candidates, coexist with post-positivism and constructivism. The analysis of both quantitative and qualitative results show that the rigor of social welfare qualitative research is very important to secure the validity and control the quality of qualitative research. Based on these results, this study introduced concrete tasks related to secure the rigor of social welfare qualitative research in Korea.

A History of African-American Women Rewritten in Blood: Suzan-Lori Parks's Red Letter Plays (피로 다시 쓴 흑인 여성의 역사 - 수잔-로리 팍스의 『붉은 글씨 희곡』)

  • Since the beginning of her dramatic career, Suzan-Lori Parks has considered digging up and restoring African-American history buried under the dominant white Anglo-Saxon history as her mission as a playwright. In Red Letter Plays, she attempts what Deborah Geis called "canon-critique" by taking canonical work by Nathaniel Hawthorne and casting an African-American character as the main character and describing her oppression as an African-American female. This paper argues that Suzan-Lori Parks accuses the oppressive social system by restoring and representing the history of sexual, economic, and racial exploitation that African-American females had to suffer through the dominant image of body and blood. Parks had to rewrite the history of black female characters on their bodies and in the blood because their bodies have been the ultimate object of revulsion and attraction in the perspective of white male. While abhorring and despising Hester La Negrita's abject body, male characters in In the Blood nonetheless not only exploit her sexually and economically but also impregnate her. Hester resorts to her only means of revolting against this oppressive system; she kills her most beloved son and writes "A" on the floor with his blood. Likewise, Hester Smith in Fucking A, who wears "A" on her bosom like Hester Prynne, which in this case means "abortionist," "saves" her son from the hunters by slitting his throat. Abundant graphic and sensational images written on black female body and in the blood are Parks's dramatic strategy to rewrite the forgotten and hidden history of black women's history.

The Change of the Knowledge Field in a Transition Period based on the Transition of the Status of Chinese Novels - Focusing Liang Qichao's Assertion, the Revolution of the Novel World (중국소설의 위상 변천으로 본 과도기 지식 장(場)의 변화 - 양계초(梁啓超)의 소설계혁명(小說界革命)을 중심으로 -)

  • In this paper, the transition of the status of Chinese novels and the change of the knowledge field in the modern times from the end of 19th century to the early 20th century, the transition period between the tradition and the modern times, have been investigated based on Liang Qichao's assertion of the Revolution of the Novel World. How the traditional novels have been evaluated, how modern novels enlightened a people and changed the political society, and what role novels acted in the change of the knowledge field are investigated. Especially I looked into the accumulations of knowledge and changes inside China which were overlooked in the previous researches which focused on the inflow of the Western culture and its impact on Chinese culture. Firstly the evaluation and classification of the traditional novels are considered. Because the transition of the status of novels and the classification method of the catalog of books are tightly coupled with the change of academic ideologies. Later I tried to understand novels as a way of thinking the modern times with a discussion on the changes of modern knowledge society and the consideration of Liang Qichao's Revolution of the Novel World in the two viewpoints, i.e. the relationship between novels and political society, and novels and the style of writing. Liang Qichao raised novels to the topmost position of literature. He pushed the traditional poetry off the top position and replaced it with popular novels. As the outside impact of Western culture made Chinese novels a tool for enlightening the ignorant people and the medium of propagating the knowledge, the status of novels was elevated to the highest level which novels had never reached in the past. With the limitation that the valuation was not based on the aesthetic appreciation of art but based on the value for politics and society, novel was a discourse of life and death to save the country and a container of knowledge to rebuild the people's mind and convert the crisis of the national ruin.
