In order to alleviate the cyto-toxicity and improve the poor water solubility of 7-hydroxy-3-methoxycadalene, it was substituted with glucose, a strong hydrophilic and non cyto-toxiccompound, in the C-7 position. The yield of final product was ca. 55.4%. The $IC_{50}$ values of 7-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosyl-3-methoxycadalene against normal lung cell (WI-38 cell line) and human lung cancer cell (A-549 cell line), which is a parameter for determination of cell viability, were measured to $298.2{\mu}m$ and $88.6{\mu}m$, respectively. This result indicates that the pharmaceutical efficiency of the cadalene-glucose derivative targeted to lung cancer cell could be improved more than three times compared to the non derivatized cadalene. In addition, glycosylation of 7-hydroxy-3-methoxycadalene turned its hydrophobic property to more soluble in water.
The Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation(SSF) of ethanol production from potato starch studied with respect to growth pH, temperature, substrate concentration. The glucoamylase and Saccharomyceses cerevisiae have a capacity to carry out a single stage SSF process for ethanol production. The characteristics, termed as starch hydrolysis, accumulation of glucose, ethanol production and biomass formation, were affected with variation in pH, temperature and starch concentration. The maximum ethanol concentration of 12.9g/l was obtained using a starch concentration 30g/l, which represent an ethanol yield of 86%. The optimum conditions for the maximum ethanol yield were found to be a temperature of 38, pH of 4.0 and fermentation time of 18hr. Thus by using the control composite design, it is possible to determine the accurate values of the fermentation parameters where maximum production of ethanol occurs.
Urine glucose monitoring system is a self-monitoring system that display the glucose level by non-invasive measurement method. In this paper, We developed a noninvasive urine glucose monitoring system that improved defects of urine glucose measurement with a colorimeter method and invasive blood glucose measurement method. This system consist of bio-chemical sensor for urine glucose measurements, signal detecting part, digital and signal analysis part, display part and power supplying part. The developed bio-chemical sensor for the measurement of urine glucose has good reproducibility, convenience of handing and can be mass-produced with cheap price. To evaluate the performance of the developed system, We performed the evaluation of confidence about the detection of glucose level by a comparison between a standard instrument in measuring glucose level and the developed system using standard glucose solutions mixed with urine. Standard error was 2.85282 from the evaluation of confidence based on regression analysis. Also, In analysis of S.D(standard deviation) and C.V(coefficient of validation) that are important parameters to evaluate system using bio-chemical sensor, S.D was 10% which falls under clinically valid value, 15%, and C.V was under 5%. Consequently from the above results, compared to blood glucose measurement, the system performance is satisfactory.
has been synthesized using the layered organic-inorganic hybrids, Cu2(OH)3(CH3COO)·H2O as a precursor. Cubic Cu2O is synthesized by reducing Cu2(OH)3(CH3COO)·H2O with glucose in water at 75oC. The effects of precursor and glucose are investigated. The structure of Cu2(OH)3(CH3COO)·H2O plays an important role in preparing the uniform size of Cu2O.
The hemicellulose fraction of ryegrass straw was extracted with NaOH and used for production of glucose isomerase by Streptomyces flavogriseus. Up to 25% crude hemicellulose (20% as pentosan) could he obtained by treating straw with 1 to 24% NaOH. The yield of hemicellulose was increased proportionately with increasing NaOH concentration up to 4%, but the rate of increase was slowed thereafter. The optimum condition for hemicellulose extraction from ryegrass straw was to treat straw with 4% NaOH for 3hrs at 9$0^{\circ}C$ or 24hrs at 3$0^{\circ}C$. Highest level of glucose isomerase activity (3.04 units/ml culture) was obtained when the organism was grown for 2 days at 3$0^{\circ}C$ on 2% straw hemicellulose. The organism also produced a good quantity of glucose isomerase on xylan, xylose or H$_2$SO$_4$-hydrolysate of straw. The hemicellulose-extracted straw residue could be used as animal feed, because the residue had 75% higher digestibility and 20% better feed efficiency for weanling meadow voles than the untreated straw.
A purification technique of glucose oxidase was developed. Using the gluconyl-${\omega}$-aminohexyl Sepharose affinity chromatography, it was partially purified 14.6 folds with 79.7% yield. With the combination of the affinity chromatography and Sepharose 6B gel filtration, the enzyme was purified 27.2 folds from the broth with 74.1% yield. The final purified preparation showed 90.83 U of glucose oxidase activity per mg of protein and a single band by 7% polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The absorption spectrum and substrate specificity of the enzyme were studied and the fianal preparation showed the optimal pH between 5.6 and 6.0, the optimal temperature at $40^{\circ}C$, $8.5{\times}10^{-3}M$ of $K_m$ for D-glucose, and 3.43 kcal/mole of the activation energy.
Algae is an abundant and potential fermentation substrate. The enzymatic hydrolysis of algae was investigated by pre-treating an alkaline hydrogen peroxide with commercial cellulase and viscozyme. Algae used in this study was the Ulva pertusa. The evaluated response was the yield of released glucose after the enzymatic hydrolysis. Alkaline hydrogen peroxide containing mixtures of 1 wt% hydrogen peroxide and 1~1.75 wt% sodium hydroxide was also used. The results show that the highest glucose conversion was obtained for Ulva pertusa using 5 wt% hydrogen peroxide at $60^{\circ}C$ for 3 h. The required amount of enzymes after the pre-treatment with alkaline hydrogen peroxide were reduced by far compared to that of untreated Ulva pertusa. Also, the amount of glucose that is released during the enzymatic hydrolysis was increased.

Lactic acid, the most widely occurring hydroxy-carboxylic acid, has traditionally been used as food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. Even though it has tremendous potential for large scale production and use in a wide variety of applications, high cost lactic acid materials are primarily problems. Lactic acid can be obtained on either by fermentation or chemical synthesis. In recent years, the fermentation approach has become more successful because of the increasing market demand for naturally produced lactic acid. Generally, lactic acid was produced from pure starch or from glucose. As an alternative, biomass which is the most abundant renewable resources on earth have been considered for conversion to readily utilizable hydrolysate. In this study, we conducted the fermentation method to produce L(+)-lactic acid production from pretreated hydrolysate was investigated by Lactobacillus rhamnosus ATCC 10863. The hydrolysate was obtained from pretreatment process of biomass using Ammonia percolation process (AP) followed by enzymatic hydrolysis. In order to effectively enhance lactic acid conversion and product yield, controlled medium, temperature, glucose concentration was conducted under pure glucose conditions. The optimum conditions of lactic acid production was investigated and compared with those of hydrolysate.
The effect of glucose oxidase (GO) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) on the oxidative stability of fish oil was investigated from oxygen content and peroxide value determinations of oil samples stored in vial. GO could inhibit the oxidation of the oil by removing headspace oxygen. When SOD was solubilized in the oil, peroxide value was slightly lower than that of a control, indicating that the enzyme also had an effect on retarding the oxidation.
The on-line monitoring technique for the concentrations fo glucose and starch by FIA(Flow Injection Analysis)system was studied. Glucose oxidase(GOD) and amyloglucosidase(AMG) were immboilized on VA-Fpoxy carrier and integrated into the FLA system. The pH, buffer flow rate and temperature were optimized and the effects of salts and metabolites dissolved in the sample on the activity of immobilized enzyme were investigated. GOD-FIA and AMG/GOD-FIA were applied for the on-line monitoring of the glucose and starch in a simulated bioprocess. The on-line measurements of glucose concentrations by GOD-FIA agreed with off-line data well and the AMG/GOD-FIA with single cartidge system took and advantage over the FIA system with two separated cartridges for the on-line monitoring of starch concentrations.
