  • In this research, a procedure to improve the feasibility of design space is proposed by an approximation model. The Chebyshev Inequality is used as the criterion of modification of design space. This procedure is applied to the aero-elastic transonic wing design problem and the feasibility of the design space is greatly improved. Also the optimization results are improved by appling this procedure. That is, the probability to satisfy all imposed constraints is increased and the better design points are included in design space after this procedure. And the use of both a second-order response surface model and the Kriging model is investigated and compared in accuracy, efficiency, and robustness as approximation models in this procedure for different sampling methods. As a result, the second-order response surface model is more appropriate for our application than the Kriging model, because it is linear enough to be fitted well by the response surface model.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the dynamic disturbances(disturbed forces and disturbed torques) due to attitude control thruster's plume impingement on the solar arrays. To produce database of the dynamic disturbances a sweep analysis was done, in which the two parameters are used; the distance between the thruster and solar arrays and the thruster tilt angle. Based on the database, a third order polynomial approximation is computed to represent the characteristics of the disturbed forces and torques. The final results are the coefficients of the approximation for each solar array angle position. These results as input data are used to optimize the configuration of the attitude control thrusters. This analysis is appled to the two candidate solar arrays for Geo-Kompsat-2 satellite and the results of the disturbed forces and disturbed torques are compared and analysed.

  • An active micro-mixer, which is composed of an oscillating micro-stirrer in the micro-channel to provide effective mixing was optimized. The effects of molecular diffusion and disturbance by the stirrer were considered with regard to two types of mixer models: the simple straight micro-channel and micro-channel with an oscillating stirrer. Two types of mixer models were studied by analyzing mixing behaviors such as their interaction after the stirrer. The mixing was calculated by Lattice Boltzmann methods using the D2Q9 model. In this study, the time-averaged mixing index formula was used to estimate the mixing performance of time-dependent flow. The mixing indices of the two models were compared. From the results, it was found that the mixer with an oscillating stirrer was much more enhanced and stabilized. Therefore, an approximate optimization of an active micro-mixer with an oscillating stirrer was performed using Kriging method with OLHD(Optimal Latin Hypercube Design) in order to determine the optimal design variables. The design parameters were established as the frequency, the length and the angle of the stirrer. The optimal values were obtained as 1.0346, 0.66D and $\pm45^{\circ}$, respectively. It was found that the mixing index of the optimal design increased by 88.72% compared with that of the original design.

  • We propose an optimal number of transmit antennas which maximizes energy-efficiency (EE) in multi-user massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlink system with the maximal ratio transmission (MRT) precoding. With full channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT), we find a closed form solution by partial differential function with proper approximations using average channel gain, independence of individual channels, and average path loss. With limited feedback, we get a solution numerically by the bisection with approximations in the same manner, and analyze an effect of feedback bits on the optimal number of transmit antennas. Simulation results show that the optimal numbers of transmit antenna getting from proposed closed form solution and exhaustive search are nearly same.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel unsupervised feature selection method. Conventional unsupervised feature selection method defines virtual label and uses a regression analysis that projects the given data to this label. However, since virtual labels are generated from data, they can be formed similarly in the space. Thus, in the conventional method, the features can be selected in only restricted space. To solve this problem, in this paper, features are selected using orthogonal projections and low-rank approximations. To solve this problem, in this paper, a virtual label is projected to orthogonal space and the given data set is also projected to this space. Through this process, effective features can be selected. In addition, projection matrix is restricted low-rank to allow more effective features to be selected in low-dimensional space. To achieve these objectives, a cost function is designed and an efficient optimization method is proposed. Experimental results for six data sets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing conventional unsupervised feature selection methods in most cases.

  • Optimization problems are formulated to calculate optimal impulses for deflecting Earth-Crossing Objects using a Nonlinear Programming. This formulation allows us to analyze the velocity changes in normal direction to the celestial body's orbital plane, which is neglected in many previous studies. The constrained optimization in the three-dimensional space is based on a patched conic method including the Earth's gravitational effects, and yields impulsive ${\Delta}V$ to deflect the target's orbit. The optimal solution is dependent on relative positions and velocities between the Earth and the Earth-crossing objects, and can be represented by optimal magnitude and angle of ${\Delta}V $ as a functions of a impulse time. The perpendicular component of ${\Delta}V $ to the orbit plane can sometimes play un-negligible role as the impulse time approaches the impact time. The optimal ${\Delta}V $ is increased when the original orbit of Earth-crossing object is more similar to the Earth's orbit, and is also exponentially increased as the impulse time reaches to the impact time. The analyses performed in present paper can be used to the deflection missions in the future.

  • In this paper, the Multi-FNN(Fuzzy-Neural Networks) model is identified and optimized using HCM(Hard C-Means) clustering method and genetic algorithms. The proposed Multi-FNN is based on Yamakawa's FNN and uses simplified inference as fuzzy inference method and error back propagation algorithm as learning rules. We use a HCM clustering and Genetic Algorithms(GAs) to identify both the structure and the parameters of a Multi-FNN model. Here, HCM clustering method, which is carried out for the process data preprocessing of system modeling, is utilized to determine the structure of Multi-FNN according to the divisions of input-output space using I/O process data. Also, the parameters of Multi-FNN model such as apexes of membership function, learning rates and momentum coefficients are adjusted using genetic algorithms. A aggregate performance index with a weighting factor is used to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization abilities of the model. The aggregate performance index stands for an aggregate objective function with a weighting factor to consider a mutual balance and dependency between approximation and predictive abilities. According to the selection and adjustment of a weighting factor of this aggregate abjective function which depends on the number of data and a certain degree of nonlinearity, we show that it is available and effective to design an optimal Multi-FNN model. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, we use the time series data for gas furnace and the numerical data of nonlinear function.

  • The present study considers the usage of concentrated forces to simulate real panel flutter. The concept of using concentrated forces have been validated for studying the flutter of wing structure in subsonic flow, yet its application in the supersonic region remained to be explored. Hence, a simply supported panel subjected to forces, equivalent to aerodynamic force is considered for studying supersonic panel flutter. The distributed aerodynamic forces are approximated to few concentrated forces by taking numerical integration. The aeroelastic equation is formulated using the classical small-deflection theory and the piston theory for linear panel flutter whereas for emulated panel flutter the flutter equation is derived by replacing the pressure due to aerodynamic loading with pressure from concentrated loading. Finally, flutter frequency, flutter dynamic pressure, and corresponding mode shape are found for emulated panel flutter and compared with linear panel flutter. Two important parameters, the number of concentrated forces and their location are discussed through numerical examples and optimization process respectively. So far, the flutter results acquired in this study are reasonable to suggest the feasibility of reproducing panel flutter using concentrated forces.

  • Recently, spectral efficiency or reliability is required to be improved in the scenario of multiple access. In this paper, we consider a scenario where two source nodes access one destination node. Different with conventional multiple access studies, in our research, a part of the allocated resource is shared by two source nodes and this scheme is called partial multiplexing. Let $R_s$ denote the ratio of the amount of the shared resource to that of the resource allocated to each user. We analyze and optimize the performance of the partial multiplexing in term of $R_s$. We show that the optimal $R_s$ to maximize the throughput is 1 or 0 based on approximated bit error rate (BER). In addition, if we set a constraint on frame error rate (FER), $R_s$ can have a value between 0 and 1. We also find the approximated $R_s$ to meet the constraint as a closed form. Partial multiplexing can be a novel multiple access scheme.
