Evaluation of Thermal Characteristics of a Direct-Connection Spindle Using Finite Element Co-Analysis (유한 요소 해석을 활용한 직결 주축의 열적 특성 평가)

  • This study focuses on development of a finite element model for analysis of thermal characteristics of a direct-connection spindle of a machining center by joint simulation of heat transfer and thermal deformation. Two finite element analyses were carried out procedurally for heat transfer, first, to identify temperature distribution of components of the spindle and then for thermal deformation to identify their structural behavior based on the temperature distribution. It was assumed that the heat transfer between a component revolving and the surrounding air is identical to that between a flat plate and the running air on it and the heat transfer is based on a uniform surface heat flux for turbulent flow. The results from the analyses were compared with those from experiments to validate the finite element model.

  • The effect of nozzle diameter on the local Nusselt number distributions has been investigated for an axisymmetric turbulent jet impinging on the flat plate surface. The flow at the nozzle exit has a fully developed velocity profile. A uniform heat flux boundary condition at the plate surface was created using gold film Intrex. Liquid Crystal was used to measure the plate surface temperature. The experiments were made for the jet Reynolds number (Re) 23,000, the dimensionless nozzle to surface distance (L/d) from 2 to 14, and the nozzle diameter (d) from 1.36 to 3.40 cm. The results show that the Nusselt number at and near the stagnation point increase with an increasing value of the nozzle diameter.

The Effects of Winch-curtain Ventilation on the Indoor Environment of a Fattening Swine House (윈치커튼 환기가 비육돈사의 실내 환경에 미치는 영향)

  • The study was conducted to investigate the effects of climate on indoor environment of a swine house with natural. This study was tested in the beef swine stall at Young-in, Kyung-ki do. The test was experimented for the effect of interior environment by the outdoor environment and the interior-pan. The results are as follows. 1. In test 1 ($T_{out}$ : $25.7^{\circ}C$, without fan), an indoor air flow pattern was showed that entered from sidewall winch-curtain to went out of a indoor by the ridge winch-curtain. And the velocity of a section of the center was measured two times as large as the velocity of the floor. It is the acceleration of the velocity by thermal buoyancy. And, the entered air was rapidly dissipated by flow energy. So that in the swain livestock with sidewall winch-curtain is effected by thermal buoyancy. And the air temperature of the indoor was distributed more higher as compared with the outdoor temperature. This result is caused by the sensible heat from swine and the ventilation is restricted. 2. In test 2 (($T_{out}$ : $25.7^{\circ}C$, with fan), the velocity of a section of the center was measured more higher as compared with the test 1. And the variance of air velocity was distributed higher as compared with the test 1. This result is showed dead region of air flow with a fan operation. And, the variance of gas density was distributed lower as compared with the test 1.

The development of cooling system in the gasoline engine with the aluminum alloy cylinder block (알루미늄 합금 실린더 블럭을 적용한 가솔린 엔진의 냉각계 개발)

  • 본 논문에서는 주철 라이너를 삽입한 알루미늄 블럭 엔진 개발과정에서 주조 불량이 발생하였을때, 냉각계에 일어나는 제반 현상을 분석하고, 이를 해결해 나가는 과정을 기술하였다. 이를 위하여 주철 블럭과 알루미늄 블럭을 장착한 엔진의 피스톤 온도와 블럭의 열유속, 열정산을 측정하였다. 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 알루미늄 블럭 제작시 주철 라이너와 알루미늄 블럭 사이에 공기층이 크거나, 용탕 충진이 불완전한 주조 불량이 발생하면 열접촉 저항이 커져 엔진 열전달 경로에 큰 영향을 준다. 2. 알루미늄 블럭 제작시 주조 불량이 발생하면 피스톤에서 라이너로의 전열량이 줄어듦에 따라 냉각수로의 전열량은 감소하는데, 6,000rpm, 전부하에서 알루미늄 블럭의 출력 대비 냉각수로의 방열량의 비는 38.3%이고, 주철 블럭은 44.1%이다. 3. 알루미늄 블럭 제작시 주조 불량이 발생하면, 피스톤 온도가 15-20.deg.C 정도 상승하여 피스톤 손상을 유발시킬 수 있다. 4. 알루미늄 블럭의 주조가 완벽하게 되어 주철 라이너와 알루미늄 몸체 사이에서의 열접촉저항이 없어지면, 스토로크 방향에 따른 금속면 온도 분포가 균일하게 된다. 5. 실린더 라이너의 주조상태 개선없이 오일젯을 사용한 결과 피스톤의 온도를 만족할 만한 수준으로 감소시켰다. 6. 6000rpm, 전부하에서 오일젯 적용시 출력 대비 냉각수로의 방열량의 비가 38.3%에서 36.2%로 감소하고, 출력대비 오일로의 방열량의 비는 9.6%에서 11.2%로 증가한다. 7. 오일젯 작용시 오일 펌프의 용량 증대와 오일 쿨러의 장착이 필수적이다.

  • In automotive disc brake systems, frictional heat is not uniformly dispersed for reasons such as heat flux and thermal deformation. The thermoelastic deformation due to the frictional heat affects the contact pressure distribution and the contact load may be concentrated on the contact portion on the the disc brake surface, resulting in thermoelastic instability. In this study, thermal analysis and thermal deformation analysis considering the contact between disk and pad occurred during braking through 3D axial symmetry model with reference to the experimental equation and Kao's analysis method of contact pressure of disk and pad. ANSYS is used to analyze the thermal and elastic instability problems occurring at the contact surface between the disk and the pad, considering both the thermal and mechanical loads. A 3D axisymmetric model with direct contact between the disk and the pad was constructed to more accurately observe the thermal behavior of the disk by observing the frictional surface temperature, thermal deformation and contact thermal stress of the disk.

Experimental Study on In-Tube Condensation Heat Transfer Characteristics of Helically Coiled Spiral Tubes (코일형 나선 전열관의 내부 응축열전달 특성에 관한 실험 적 연구)

  • An experimental study on condensation heat transfer characteristics of helically coiled spiral tubes was performed. The refrigerant is R-113. A refrigerant loop was established to measure the condensation heat transfer coefficients. Experiments were carried out uniform heat flux of 15 kw/m$^2$, refrigerant quality of 0.1∼0.9, curvature ratio of 0.016, 0.025 and 0.045. The curvature of a coil was defined as the ratio of the inside diameter of the tube to the diameter of the bending circle. To compare the condensation heat transfer coefficients of coiled spiral tubes, the previous results on coiled plain tubes and straight plain tubes were used. The results shows that the condensation heat transfer coefficients of coiled spiral tubes largely increase, as increasing Re and quality, compared to those of coiled plain tubes and straight plain tubes. As increasing degree of subcooling, however, the condensation heat transfer coefficients on coiled spiral tubes decrease. It is found that the heat transfer enhancement is more better than coiled plain tubes and straight plain tubes, as increasing curvature ratio.

  • An analysis of convection, in a fully developed laminar steady flow through the vertical square duct under the condition of variational symmetric heat flux, is considered. Finite element solution algorithm by Galerkin's method with triangular elements and linear interpolation polynominals for the temperature and velocity profiles are derived for the vertical square duct. The comparison of temperature distribution due to variational symmetric heat flux in the duct were made with available the other data when the condition of peripheral heat flux were uniform and zero. Numerical values for the dimensionless temperatures and Nusselt numbers at selected Rayleigh numbers and pressure gradient parameters were obtained at a few nodal points for the vertical square ducts and effects of corner in the duct were investigated.

  • This study concerns the characteristics of boiling heat transfer in two-phase closed thermosyphons with various micro grooves. A study was carried out with the performance of the heat transfer of the thermosyphon having 60 internal micro grooves in which boiling and condensation occur. A plain thermosyphon having the same inner and outer diameter as the grooved thermosyphon is also tested for comparison. Distilled water, methanol, ethanol have been used as the working fluid. The heat flux and the boiling heat transfer coefficient at the evaporator zone are estimated from the experimental results. The experimental results have been assessed and compared with existing correlations. Imura's and Kusuda's correlation for boiling showed in good agreement with experimental results within ${\pm}20{\%}$ in plain thermosyphon.

  • MILD (Moderate and Intense Low Oxygen Dilution) combustion is a technology that uses the recirculation of combustion gas to increase thermal efficiency not only by keeping down the concentration of Nitric Oxides and temperature but also by uniformizing the internal temperature of the combustion furnace. This study is a trial to obtain MILD combustion characteristics by adjusting the equivalence ratio with the air flow rate in the conical combustor while keeping the fuel flow rate and measuring the exhaust gas of the combustion furnace.

Thermal Analysis of Prelaunch Transients in Cryogenic Oxidizer Tank of Liquid Propulsion Rocket (발사대기 중인 액체추진 로켓의 극저온 산화제 탱크 내 비정상 열해석)

  • The prelaunch thermal transients in the cryogenic oxidizer tank of liquid propulsion rocket subjected to uniform heat flux from outside are numerically analyzed through thermodynamic equations and heat and mass transfer relations. The prelaunch stage is assumed to be composed of five idealized sub-stages including pressurization process by helium gas injection. The Peng-Robinson equation of state is utilized in the lumped analysis of ullage gas. The liquid region is divided into a number of horizontal layers of uniform properties to account for the thermal stratification. The computational result for the typical case shows that the temperature rise of liquid oxidizer is less than 1K and the adsorbed helium into the liquid is approximately 10g.
