Effect of Ionic Salts on the Structure of Electrospun Gelatin Nanofibers (젤라틴 나노섬유 구조에 대한 이온염의 영향)

  • The fabrication of gelatin nanofibers by electro spinning has been examined using the TFE/DW co-solvent system. It has been found that no beads-on-string structure was formed for the solution containing ionic salts. The resulting fibers exhibited a uniform diameter ranging from 110 to 125 nm. As the concentration of ionic salts increases, the beads become smaller and more spindle like, due to the increase of viscosity and conductivity. The addition of ionic salts induces a higher charge density on the surface of ejected jet during spinning, leading that higher elongation forces are applied to the jet. The higher enhancement of viscosity and conductivity was observed in gelatin solutions by the use of divalent salt. However, the concentration of ionic salts scarcely affected the variation of fiber diameter. While very low crystallinity was observed from XRD pattern for the sample containing no ionic salt, which increased with increasing the concentration of ionic salts.

CO2 Mineral Carbonation Reactor Analysis using Computational Fluid Dynamics: Internal Reactor Design Study for the Efficient Mixing of Solid Reactants in the Solution (전산유체역학을 이용한 이산화탄소 광물 탄산화 반응기 분석: 용액 내 고체 반응물 교반 향상을 위한 내부 구조 설계)

  • Aqueous mineral carbonation process, in which $CO_2$ is captured through the reaction with aqueous calcium oxide (CaO) solution, is one of CCU technology enabling the stable sequestration of $CO_2$ as well as economic value creation from its products. In order to enhance the carbon capture efficiency, it is required to maximize the dissolution rate of solid reactants, CaO. For this purpose, the proper design of a reactor, which can achieve the uniform distribution of solid reactants throughout the whole reactor, is essential. In this paper, the effect of internal reactor designs on the solid dispersion quality is studied by using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) techniques for the pilot-scale reactor which can handle 40 ton of $CO_2$ per day. Various combination cases consisting of different internal design variables, such as types, numbers, diameters, clearances and speed of impellers and length and width of baffles are analyzed for the stirred tank reactor with a fixed tank geometry. By conducting sensitivity analysis, we could distinguish critical variables and their impacts on solid distribution. At the same time, the reactor design which can produce solid distribution profile with a standard deviation value of 0.001 is proposed.

Integrated Wet Oxidation and Aerobic Biological Treatment of the Quinoline Wastewater (퀴놀린 폐수의 습식산화와 호기성 생물학적 통합처리)

  • The treatment of a model wastewater containing quinoline in an integrated wet oxidation-aerobic biological treatment was investigated. Partial wet oxidation under mild operating conditions was capable of converting the original quinoline to biodegradable organic acids such as nicotinic, formic and acetic acid, the solution of which was subjected to the subsequent aerobic biological treatment. The wet oxidation was carried out at 250$^{\circ}C$ and the initial pH of 7.0, and led to effluents of which nicotinic acid was oxidized through 6-hydroxynicotinic acid by a Bacillus species in the subsequent aerobic biological treatment. Either homogeneous catalyst of $CuSO_4$ or phenol, which is more degradable in the wet oxidation compared to quinoline, was also used for increasing the oxidation rate in the wet oxidation of quinoline at 200$^{\circ}C$. The oxidation of quinoline in the catalytic wet oxidation and the wet co-oxidation with phenol resulted in effluents of which nicotinic acid was biodegradable earlier in the aerobic biological treatment compared to those out of the non-catalytic wet oxidation at 250$^{\circ}C$. However, the lag phase in the biodegradation of nicotinic acid formed out of the wet oxidation at 250$^{\circ}C$ was considerably shortened after the adaptation of Bacillus species used in the aerobic biological treatment with the effluents of the quinoline wet oxidation.

  • 액화천연가스(LNG : Liquified Natural Gas)는 연료로 사용하기 위하여 기화하는 과정을 거치게 되는데 기화하는 방식에는 해수에 의한 기화와 공기에 의한 기화의 두 가지 방식으로 나뉘게 된다. 해수에 의한 기화는 LNG 인수기지에서 대량의 LNG를 NG로 기화하기 위하여 사용하며, 공기에 의한 기화는 LNG 위성기지에서 사용처에 적합한 온도를 얻기 위해서 일반적으로 많이 사용하고 있는 공기식 기화기를 이용하여 기화를 하는 방식을 취하고 있다. LNG가 NG로 기화하는 과정에서 1kg당 200kcal의 냉열을 외부로 방출하고 있으며, 이러한 냉열의 방출로 인하여 공기식 기화기의 표면에 결빙현상을 발생시킨다. 또한 현재 사용하고 있는 기화기는 $2{\sim}3$개의 기화기를 연결하여 사용하고 있어 그 비용의 손실이 크다고 할 수 있다. 그리하여 본 연구는 최근 사용빈도가 증가하고 있는 공기식 기화기에 관한 것으로 작동유체는 실제 LNG와 특성이 비슷한 초저온 액화가스인 $LN_2$를 사용하였다. 이번 연구에 사용된 변수는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 각각의 기화기의 길이를 4000mm, 6000mm, 8000mm으로 하였고 핀의 type을 finless, 4fin, 8fin으로 하여 적용하였다. 두 번째는 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울철에 따른 기화기의 성능을 알고자 각각의 계절별 온도와 습도를 적용하였다. 마지막으로 계절별 풍속과 실험을 하는 시간 동안의 유량을 알고자 압력을 1 bar로 적용하였다. 그리하여 이번 연구의 목적으로는 각각의 변수를 통하여 실험을 진행 한 후 vaporizer type과 길이에 대한 최적의 성능을 가지는 기화기에 대한 자료를 제시하고자 한다.기성분은 균주에 따른 약간의 차이가 있었으나 경향은 비슷하게 나타났다. 이상의 결과 알코올 발효 균주에 따른 참다래 와인의 이화학적 품질특성에는 큰 차이가 없었으나 고급알코올함량을 비교하였을 때 Sacch. cerevisiae Wine 3이 와인제조에 가장 적합한 것으로 평가되었다.장 낮은 값을 나타내었으며, 홍국의 함유량이 증가할수록 유의적으로 증가하였다. b값은 CSB가 가장 낮은 값을 나타내었으며, 홍국의 함유량이 증가할수록 유의적으로 증가하였다. 물성측정 결과 경도와 응집성은 각 시료들 간의 유의적인 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 탄력성과 부서짐성은 CSB가 가장 낮았으며, 홍국의 함유량이 증가할수록 증가하였다. 점착성은 SDB1이 가장 낮았으며, 홍국의 함유량이 증가할수록 증가하였다. 관능검사 결과 기공의 균일성은 SDB1이 가장 균일한 것으로 나타났으며, 색은 홍국의 함유량이 증가할수록 높게 나타났다. 경도, 탄력성, 단맛 및 신맛 등은 홍국 함유량이 증가할수록 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이취는 SDB1이 가장 적게 나는 것으로 나타났으며, 전반적인 기호도는 SDB1이 가장 높았다. 따라서 홍국을 10% 첨가한 sourdough starter를 3일 동안 발효한 후 반죽에 첨가하여 sourdough bread를 제조할 때 품질이 가장 우수한 제품을 얻을 수 있었다.생수와 여러 물질의 혼합용액의 온도가 장에 끼치는 자극에 차이가 있지 않나 추측되며 이에 관한 추후 연구가 요망된다. 총대장통과시간의 단축은 결장 분절 모두에서 줄어들어 나타났으나 좌측결장 통과시간의 감소 및 이로 인한 이 부위의 통과시간 비율의 저하가 가장 주요하였다. 이러한 결과는 차가운 생수 섭취가 주로 결장 근위부를 자극하는 효과를 발휘하는 것이 아닌가

Mutual Separation of Am(III) and Eu(III) by Solvent Extraction with Cyanex 301 (Cyanex 301에 의한 Am(III)과 Eu(III)의 상호분리)

  • The present paper describes the solvent extraction behaviors and the mutual separation of Am and Eu by sulphur bearing Cyanex 301 acidic extractant in sodium nitrate solutions. Original Cyanex 301 was not able to separate the Am and Eu because of their similar extraction behaviors. The saponification of commercial Cyanex 301 was performed by small amounts of 8 M NaOH solutions and saponified Cyanex 301 was able to separate of Am from Eu with high selectivity in sodium nitrate aqueous solution. The separation factors ($SF_{Am/Eu}$) were increased with saponified ratio of commercial Cyanex 301, pH of sodium nitrate solution and initial concentration of Eu. To obtain the homogeneous saponified Cyanex 301, heterogeneous saponified Cyanex 301 was treated with addition of octyl alcohol or filtration. The observed $SF_{Am/Eu}$ was 32.3 for the former and 930 for the latter. Finally, the stripping behaviors of Am and Eu were similar and stripping yields showed 96.1% for the 1 M $NaNO_3$(pH=1.3) and 99% for the mixture solution of 0.05 M DTPA and 1.5 M lactic acid.

Fabrication and Characterization of Alumina Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration Membrane (알루미나 중공사 한외여과막 제조 및 특성평가)

  • In this study, homogeneous and defect-free ceramic ultrafiltration membranes were fabricated by using the sol-gel method. A boehmite sol was synthesized and coated onto the surface of alumina hollow fiber microfiltration membranes. The effect of sol viscosity and surface tension on the coating layer homogeneity and thickness was investigated. The optimum coating repetition using pristine sol was determined to be 3 times, as the samples coated more than 4 times showed delamination. Fixing the coating repetition to 3 times, the effect of sintering temperature was also studied in this work. The samples sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ exhibited the highest pure water permeability with the molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of approximately 51 kDa (10 nm dextran), and the samples sintered at 600, $800^{\circ}C$ displayed the MWCO of 12 kDa (5 nm dextran). The ultrafiltration membranes prepared in this work showed competitive performance compared to the reported ceramic ultrafiltration membranes.

Preparation and Characterization of Hydrothermal BaTiO3 Powders and Ceramics (수열합성법에 의한 BaTiO3분말합성 및 소결체의 제조)

  • BaTiO$_3$ fine powders were synthesized by hydrothermal process from peroxo-coprecipitate precursors. The peroxo-coprecipitates were obtained by addition of the BaCl$_2$, TiCl$_4$, and $H_2O$$_2$ aqueous solution to an ammonium solution. Hydrothermal reaction was conducted at various reaction temperatures, times and pH ranges. Unlike the conventional hydrothermal synthesis which needs highly alkaline condition over pH 13 with KOH or NaOH, the present method offered well-developed crystalline (perovskite) BaTiO$_3$ powders synthesized below pH 12 with use of ammonium solution. It was found that the phase-pure fine powders were formed at temperatures as low as 11$0^{\circ}C$ and the properties of the powders synthesized over 13$0^{\circ}C$ were almost same regardless of the reaction time. BET surface area of the prepared powder was as high as 76 $m^2$/g and the calculated particle (particulate) size was below 20 nm. The ultrafine particulates formed weak agglomerates. The microstructure and dielectric properties of BaTiO$_3$ ceramics sintered at the temperature range of 1150~125$0^{\circ}C$ were evaluated.

  • 지르코니아 분말은 ZrO2 결정상이 온도변화에 따라 부피변화를 수반하는 상전이변태를 나타낸다. 단사정 ZrO2가 110$0^{\circ}C$에서는 정방정으로, 2$700^{\circ}C$ 내외에서는 입방정으로 결정구조가 가역적으로 변한다. 이 ZrO2에 금속산화물을 고용시키면 형석 (CaF2:Florite)형의 입방정 결정구조가 실온에서도 안정하게 존재하게 된다. 안정화제 산화물은 caO, MgO등 2가 산화물외에 3가 또는 4가의 금속산화물로서 Sc2O3, Y2O3, Sm2O3, Nd2O3, Gd2O3, Y2O3, CeO2 등이며 이들은 금속이온의 원자가가 변하기 쉬운 희토류 산화물이다. 안정화 지르코니아는 형석형 결정구조이며 결정화학적으로 보면 금속양이온이 산소이온에 대해서 정육면체형의 8배위를 하고 있다. 이때 이온반경비(양이온/음이온)에 따라 Zr+4자리와 O-2자리의 격자위치와 모양이 형성되므로 비틀어진 정육면체구조이건 이상적인 정육면체 형석구조를 이룬다. 이는 지르코니아의 결정상의 2상-3상인 부분안정화 지르코니아다결정체(PSZ : partially stabilized zirconia)이거나 단일상-2상인 정방정 지르코니아다결정체(TZP : tetragonal zirconia polycrystal)의 결정구조를 가지는데 기인한다. PSZ는 주로 MgO, CaO를 안정화제로 고용시켜 입방정 영역에서 소결하고 이를 다시 입방정과 정방정의 상 영역에서 열처리하여 입방정 입자내부에 정방정을 석출 형성시킨 것이며 TZP는 Y2O3 및 CeO2를 고용시켜 PSZ와 다르게 일반적인 상압소결한 정방정 결정상의 미립자이다. 산화지르코늄 분말은 지르콘사에서 열분해시킨 지르코늄소결.융해괴(caustic fusion clinker)를 산처리하여얻어진 지르코늄산용액(zirconyl acid solution : cloride, sulfide, nitride 등)으로부터 제조된다. 고순도 산화지르코늄은 용액 결정석출법에 의해 ZrOCl2.8H2O, 5ZrO2.3SO3.15H2O, ZrO(NO3)2.xH2O 등의 지르코늄 수화물만을 재결정화시킨 것으로부터 얻을 수 있으며 이 지르코늄염 수용액으로부터 입자미세구조를 효과적으로 제어하여 산화지르코늄 및 안정화 지르코니아 분말제조가 가능하다. 안정화 지르코니아 분말은 ZrO2와 안정화산화물의 고용을위하여 가열처리를 필요로 하며 일정온도에서 최적상태로 숙성하므로서 2가지 상(phase) 이상의 고용체를 가지게 된다. 안정화 지르코니아 분말은 고용처리온도를 낮추고 효과적으로 생성시키기 위해서는 지르코늄 및 안정화제염을 혼합하고 습식 직접합성하여 저온에서 고용체의 합해진상 영역을 생성시키는 것이다. 이는 지르코니아 원료분말의 미세구조를 제어하므로서 가능하며 이때 화학성분조성과 크기형태가 균일하게 분포된 입자분말을 얻을 수 있다.

Fabrication of Electrospun Juniperus Chinensis Extracts loaded PVA Nanofibers (향나무 추출물을 함유하는 PVA 나노섬유 제조)

  • Electrospinning is a simple and effective process for producing nanofiber with diameter range from nanometers to micrometers which have high specific surface area. Hence, medicated nanofibers can be readily fabricated using a solution containing a mixture of a plant-extracts and a polymer. It has proved that Juniperus Chinensis can be effectively used for the prevention of UV and SLS-induced advers skin reaction such as radical production, inflammation and skin cell damage. It also found that Juniperus Chinensis has efficient ingredient of antifungal activity and house dust mite repellent effect. The fabrication of PVA nanofibers containing Juniperus Chinensis extracts by electrospinning has been studied. PVA/Juniperus Chinensis extracts composite nanofibers were produced at different Juniperus Chinensis concentrations (0.25, 0.5, 1.5 wt. %). The parameters of electrospinning including polymer contents, voltage and tip-to-collector distance (TCD) were optimized for fabrication process. The study show that 12 wt. % PVA, 10kV applied voltage and TCD 10~20 cm are the best condition to obtain uniform PVA/Juniperus Chinensis extracts composite nanofibers. Morphologies of the electrospun composite nanofiber were observed by using a field emission scanning electron microscope. It has been found that the average diameters of fibers increased by the adding of Juniperus Chinensis extracts. As the results, PVA/Juniperus Chinensis extracts composite nanofibers having a diameter in the range from 310~360 nm were successfully prepared via an electrospinning.

Synthesis of P-type Zeolite Using Melting Slag from Municipal Incineration Ash (도시 소각재 용융슬래그로부터 P형 제올라이트 합성)

  • Melting slag generated from the lots of municipal incineration ash, which causes the one of big urban problems in modern industrial society, was used as starting material for the hydrothermal synthesis of zeolite. P-type zeolite has been successfully synthesized by the combined process of both 'hydrogelation' and 'clay conversion' method. Commercial sodium silicate was used as Si source, and $NaAlO_2$ was prepared by the reaction in a $Na_{2}O/Al_{2}O_{3}$ molar ratio of 1.2. The optimum conditions for zeolite synthesis was found to be the $SiO_{2}/Al_{2}O_{3}$ ratio in the 3.2 and 4.2 range, the $H_{2}O/Na_{2}O$ ratio in the 70.7 and 80.0 range, and more than 15-hour reaction time at $80^{\circ}C$, In the synthesized zeolite, inhomogeneous melting slag particles were disappeared and homogeneous P-type zeolite crystal was grown. The cation exchange capacity of the synthesized zeolite was determined to be approx. 240 cmol/kg.
