Analysis of relationship between cracked tooth syndrome and occlusion using Q-ray and T-scan (큐레이(Q-ray)와 티스캔(T-scan)을 사용한 치아균열증후군(cracked tooth syndrome)과 교합 사이의 상관관계에 대한 분석)

  • Purpose. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the patient's occlusion and a cracked tooth by using T-scan occlusal analysis and a quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) technology. Materials and methods. This study was carried out on 51 patients having cracked teeth between January, 2019 and December, 2020. The tooth crack was determined with a Q-ray pen and QLF parameters (ΔFmax and ΔRmax) were obtained by a Q-ray software. T-scan tests were conducted to all subjects and then, the occlusal force and disclosing time were analyzed. Mann-Whitney U test was performed to compare the occlusal force and disclosing time between cracked teeth groups and contra-lateral normal teeth groups (α = .05). Mann-Whitney U test was performed to compare ΔFmax and ΔRmax according to the results of cold/bite tests (α = .05). A Spearman correlation analysis was run to determine the relationship between ΔFmax or ΔRmax and occlusal force or disclosing time (α=.05). Results. The mean occlusal force and disclosing time were significantly higher on cracked teeth than on normal teeth (P < .05). The ΔFmax or ΔRmax were not significantly different according to the results of cold/bite tests (P > .05). There was no correlation between ΔFmax or ΔRmax and occlusal force or disclosing time (P > .05). Conclusion. There was a significant relationship between occlusion and cracked tooth syndrome. QLF has the potential to be a valuable tool for the diagnosis of tooth crack in clinical practice.

Long-term Behavior of Steel-Concrete Composite Girders due to Concrete Shrinkage (콘크리트 건조수축에 의한 합성거더의 장기거동)

  • Experimental tests and theoretical methods of the analysis of the concrete shrinkage behaviors of steel-concrete composite girders are described herein. Steel-concrete composite test specimens were fabricated in the laboratory, and long-term behaviors such as deflections, curvatures, and strains were measured for one year. Test results were compared to the analytical results obtained by using the age-adjusted effective modulus method (AEMM). In addition, composite girders have been analyzed to investigate the effects of several parameters on the concrete shrinkage behaviors. From the long-term test results, it could be used to validate AEMM for the evaluation of the shrinkage behavior of composite girders. Because the shrinkage of the reinforced concrete slab in composite girders may lead to large tensile stresses in the concrete section, the transverse cracking of the slab could occur both in the positive and negative regions. Therefore, if the cracking of concrete would be ignored,it might lead to an overestimation of the stresses of the steel section of composite girders. Based on this research, it is proposed that the effect of transverse concrete cracking on the shrinkage behavior of steel-concrete composite bridges be considered.

Remaining Life Assessment of High Temperature Steam Piping (고온 증기 파이프의 잔여수명 평가)

  • Recently, more researches have been actively performed for the assessment of material degradation and residual-life of elevated temperature plant components, as some of domestic fossil power plants become older than 30 years. In this paper, results of on_site residual life assessment are reported for main steam pipes of Youngwol power station #2 which have operated since 1965. For critical weld locations such as butt welds branch welds, Y_sections and a T-section, replication technique and hardness measurement technique were employed for life_assessment. When cracks were detected by conventional NDT tests, crack growth life was calculated using a computer code. On the other hand, for matrix of pipes, residual life was quantitatively estimated by an analytic method and material degradation was estimated qualitatively using diameter measurement data and grain-boundary etching method. Also, direction in further improvement of on-site life assessment techniques are proposed.

  • Primary water stress corrosion cracking has occurred in dissimilar weld areas in nuclear power plants. Residual stress is a driving force in the crack. Residual stress may be generated by weld or surface machining. Residual stress due to surface machining depends on the machining method, e.g., milling, grinding, or EDM. The stress is usually distributed on or near the surface of the material. We present the measured residual stress for machining on SA 508 and austenitic stainless steels such as TP304 and F316. The residual stress can be tensile or compressive depending on the machining method. The depth and the magnitude of the residual stress depend on the material and the machining method.

Comparative Performance Evaluation of Binarization Methods for Vehicle License Plate (자동차 번호판 이진화 방법에 대한 성능 비교)

  • License plate recognition is an active research area. but few comparative studies on license plate binarization have been conducted. Many related researchers have experienced similar trial and error for finding an effective binarization method. To reduce this trial and error, this study implemented some binarization methods and quantitatively compared the performance of the methods. The performance evaluation consists of a low level measure and a high level measure, so it can evaluate not only the quality of binarized image itself but also the usefulness of the result. The performance evaluation was separately performed with three groups of images so as to understand the properties of the binarization methods. Experimental results show that the quality of binarization is more dependent on the evenness of illumination than the intensity of illumination. The Otsu's method has acquired the most effective performance in the group of even illumination images and the Niblack's method with parameter correction has shown the best quality in the group of uneven illumination images.

  • 구조물의 동특성(고유진동수, 감쇠, 모드형상 등)의 변화는 구조물의 안전도를 평가할 수 있는 한 방법이다. 본 연구에서 콘크리트 세그먼트의 웨브 부분에 상당히 많은 균열이 진전되고 있는 상태의 Post-Tensioned Segmental 콘크리트 교량의 안전도 평가를 시도하였다. 안전도 평가를 위한 근간 데이터로 1986년 측정했던 데이터와 2차원 유한요소해석에서 얻은 결과값을 사용했다. 손상의 정도와 손상의 위치를 보다 정확히 찾아내기 위한 기술 중의 한 방법으로 Modal Test를 이용하였다. 이 방법이 Post-Tensioned Segmental 콘크리트 교량에 적용되어 교량의 안전도를 분석 평가하였다.

Experiments on the Detection of Delamination in FRP Reinforced Concrete (탄소섬유 보강 콘크리트의 박리 탐사 실험)

  • With a growing concern about the state of infrastructure worldwide, the demand for the development of reliable nondestructive testing techniques (NDT) is ever increasing. Among possible NDT techniques, microwave method is proven to be effective in fast and non-contact inspection of concrete structures and inclusions inside concrete. It is also found that the microwave method has a potential in detecting the delamination between fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) plate and concrete. On the other hand, ultrasonic method can be another way to find the delamination. In this paper, the research work needed for the development of a reliable microwave method and ultrasonic method is studied in the measurements of concrete specimens reinforced with FRP. Concrete specimens are made with FRP and artificial delamination inside. A microwave measurement system with hom antennas with high center frequency and broad frequency bandwidth are used to image inside concrete specimens for the detection of debonding between concrete and FRP. Also, ultrasonic method is used for the same condition. Both results are compared with each other.

Study of Optical Fiber Sensor Systems for the Simultaneous Monitoring of Fracture and Strain in Composite Laminates (복합적층판의 변형파손 동시감지를 위한 광섬유 센서 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • To perform the realtime strain and fracture monitoring of the smart composite structures, two optical fiber sensor systems are proposed. The two types of the coherent sources were used for fracture signal detection - EDFA with FBG and EDFA with Fabry-Perot filter. These sources were coupled to EFPI sensors imbedded in composite specimens. To understand the characteristics of matrix crack signals, at first, we performed tensile tests using surface attached PZT sensors by changing the thickness and width of the specimens. This paper describes the implementation of time-frequency analysis such as short time Fourier transform (STFT) and wavelet transform (WT) for the quantitative evaluation of fracture signals. The experimental result shows the distinctive signal features in frequency domain due to the different specimen shapes. And, from the test of tensile load monitoring using optical fiber sensor systems, measured strain agreed with the value of electric strain gage and the fracture detection system could detect the moment of damage with high sensitivity to recognize the onset of micro-crack fracture signal.

A Study on the Static and Dynamic Characteristics of Raised Girder Bridges (양각 거더교의 정적·동적특성에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: A study was conducted to ensure the structural safety of a raised girder bridge with improved cross-sectional efficiency compared to the conventional PSC girder. For this purpose, the cross-sectional specifications such as girder length, height, and width were determined, the arrangement of the tendons was designed, and the practical performance of the raised girder under static and dynamic loads was verified. Method: The static performance experiment examined the serviceability limit state by measuring behavioral responses such as deflection and cracking to primary and secondary static loads. In addition, the dynamic load loading experiment measured the acceleration and displacement behavior response over time to calculate the natural frequency and damping ratio to examine the usability limit state. Result: As a result of the static performance test, the deflection value based on the maximum applied load showed stable behavior, and the crack width measured at the maximum applied load level was very small, satisfying the serviceability limit state. In addition, a natural frequency exceeding the natural frequency calculated during the design of the dynamic loading experiment was found, and a damping ratio that satisfies the current regulations was found to be secured.
