A Study on Control of Sealing Robot for Cracks of Concrete Surface (콘크리트 표면 균열 실링을 위한 로봇의 제어 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Since the crack in the surface of the concrete acts as the main reason influencing the life span of the structure, regular inspections and maintenance are required. The sealing required for maintenance of the concrete surface is a method of repairing the crack in the surface in the beginning, and is effective in preventing additional cracks and expansion that occurs with time. However, sealing on large sized structures such as tall buildings or bottom parts of bridges are difficult to ensure safety of the workers due to inadequate working environments. Due to this reason, the importance of the need for sealing automation for the maintenance of large sized concrete structures is emerging. This study proposes two control methods to apply robot systems to the sealing of cracks on the bottom parts of concrete bridges. First is the method of automatically tracking the trajectory of cracks. The robot gets the trajectory of the cracks using video information obtained from cameras. Comparing the previous several points and new point, the next point can be estimated. Thus, the trajectory of the crack can be tracked automatically. The other method is sealing by maintaining steady force to the contacting surface. The concrete surface exposed to an external environment for a long time gets an irregular roughness. If robots are able to carry out sealing while maintaining a steady contact force on these rough surfaces, complete equal sealing can be maintained. In order to maintain this equal force, a force control method using impedance is proposed. This paper introduces two developed control methods to apply to sealing robots, and conducts a Lab Test and Field Test after applying to a robot. Based on the test results, opinions on the possibilities of field application of the robot applied with the control methods are presented.

Crack Control of Flexure-Dominant Reinforced Concrete Beams Repaired with Strain-Hardening Cement Composite (SHCC) Materials (변형경화형 시멘트 복합체를 활용한 휨항복형 철근콘크리트 보의 균열제어)

  • This paper presents an experimental study results on the crack control of flexure-dominant reinforced concrete beams repaired with strain-hardening cement composite (SHCC). Five RC beams were fabricated and tested until failure. One unrepaired RC beam was a control specimen (CBN) and remaining four speciemens were repaired with SHCC materials. The test parameters included two types of SHCC matrix ductility and two types of repair method (patching and layering). Test results demonstrated that RC beams repaired with SHCC showed no concrete crushing or spalling until final failure, but numerous hair cracks were observed. The control specimen CBN failed due to crushing. It is important to note that SHCC matrix can improve crack-damage mitigation and flexural behavior of RC beams such as flexural strength, post peak ductility, and energy dissipation capacity. In the perspective of crack width, crack widths in RC beams repaired with SHCC had far smaller crack width than the control specimen CBN under the same deflection. Especially, the specimens repaired with SHCC of PVA0.75%+PE0.75% showed a high durability and ductility. The crack width indicates the residual capacity of the beam since SHCC matrix can delay residual capacity degradation of the RC beams.

Examination for Controlling Chloride Penetration of Concrete through Micro-Cracks with Surface Treatment System (표면도장공법을 적용한 미세균열 콘크리트의 염소이온 침투 제어 특성)

  • For well-constructed concrete, its service life is a long period and it has an enough durability performance. For cracked concrete, however, it is clear that cracks should be a preferential channel for the penetration of aggressive substance such as chloride ions accoding to author's previous researches. Even though crack width can be reduced due to the high reinforcement ratio, the question is to which extend these cracks may jeopardize the durability of cracked concrete. If the size of crack is small, surface treatment system can be considered as one of the best options to extend the service life of concrete structures exposed to marine environment simply in terms of cost effectiveness versus durability performance. Thus, it should be decided to undertake an experimental study to deal with the effect of different types of surface treatment system, which are expected to seal the concrete and the cracks to chloride-induced corrosion in particular. In this study, it is examined the effect of surfaced treated systems such as penetrant, coating, and their combination on chloride penetration through microcracks. Experimental results showed that penetrant can't cure cracks. However, coating and combined treatment can prohibit chloride penetration through cracks upto 0.06 mm, 0.08 mm, respectively.

  • Micro-cracks with a width less than 0.1 mm in precast concrete panels do not cause structural problem, but they can cause problems in long term durability and concrete surfaces aesthetic, requiring additional repair costs. In this paper, polymer cement concrete is used to increase flexural tensile strength and to prevent micro-cracks due to construction loads on LB-DECK panels. Using 5% polymer-cement ratio, the panel crack moment is increased by improving flexural tensile strength and controlling visible micro-cracks during construction stage of LB-DECK.

  • It is easily found by several references of NATM that the cracks on the lining concrete of NATM are more developed than those of the conventional tunnel methods. Based on the results of research, the new method is proposed to control and protect the axial cracks on the tunnel linings. Also, the efficiency of proposed method is evaluated using the Distinct Element Method.

  • In this study, as a series of studies aimed at investigating the spatial randomness of fatigue crack growth for friction stir welded (FSWed) 7075-T651 aluminum alloy joints, the fatigue crack growth behavior of FSWed 7075-T651 aluminum alloy joints was investigated for LT orientation specimens. Fatigue crack growth tests were conducted under constant stress intensity factor range (SIFR) control for 5 specimens of the FSWed 7075-T651 aluminum alloy, including base metal (BM), heat affected zone (HAZ), and weld metal (WM) specimens. The mean fatigue crack growth rate of WM specimens was found to be the highest, whereas that of HAZ and WM specimens was the lowest. Furthermore, the variability of fatigue crack growth rate was found to be the highest in WM specimens and lowest in BM specimens.

Fiber Optic Bragg Grating Sensor for Crack Growth Detection of Structures (구조물의 균열 진전 탐지를 위한 광섬유 브래그 격자 센서)

  • There are to be some cracks on the material degradation part or the stress concentration parts of the main members, which carry on over-loads, of structures. Because these cracks can be used to evaluate the structural health status, it is important to monitor the crack growth for maintaining the structural safety. In this study, the fiber Bragg grating sensor with a drop ball was developed as a sensor for crack growth detection of an existing crack. The crack growth detection sensor was constructed with three parts: a probe part, a wavelength controling light source and receiver part, and an impact part. The probe part was just formed with a fiber Bragg grating optical fiber The wavelength controling light source part was composed of a current supplying circuit, a DFB laser diode, and a TEC controling circuit for wavelength control. Also, the impact part was just implemented by dropping a steel ball. The performance of this sensor was confirmed by the experiments of the crack detection with an aluminum plate having one existing crack. According to these experiments, the difference of the sensor signal outputs was correlated with the crack length. So, it was confirmed that this sensor could be applied to monitor the crack growth.

Crack Susceptibility Reduction and Weld Strength Improvement for Al Alloy 5J32-T4 by using Laser Weaving Method (레이저 위빙을 적용한 알루미늄 합금 5J32-T4의 용접균열 저감 및 용접강도 향상에 관한 연구)

  • 레이저 용접은 아크 용접에 비해 상대적으로 빠른 용접과 깊은 용입이 가능하며, 낮은 열입력을 가지는 장점이 있다. 하지만 알루미늄 합금 용접 시 균열 감수성의 증가 및 용접강도가 저하되는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 단점을 극복하는 방법으로 모재의 화학조성을 제어하는 방법과 부가적인 용접와이어를 공급하는 방법이 제안되었으나 레이저 용접에 적용하기 쉽지 않다. 아크 용접과 전자빔 용접에서는 열원에 오실레이션을 적용하여 결정립 구조를 제어하여 용접강도를 증가하는 방법이 제안되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 알루미늄 합금 5J32-T4의 용접균열 저감 및 용접강도 향상을 위해 레이저 위빙을 적용하였다. 1mm 두께의 알루미늄 5J32-T4를 사용하였으며, 4kW급 디스크 레이저와 레이저용 스케너를 이용하여 레이저 위빙을 구현하였다. 고온균열을 평가하기 위해 자기구속형 균열 평가방법을 사용하였으며, 용접강도를 평가하기 위해 겹치기 용접을 수행한 시편을 이용하였다. 고온균열 실험결과 레이저 위빙 적용 시 직선 용접에 비해 균열 감수성이 감소한 것을 확인하였다. 전단인장강도 측정결과 레이저 위빙의 적용에 따라 직선 용접에 비해 높은 전단인장강도의 확보가 가능하였다.
