Estimation of Empirical Fatigue Crack Propagation Model of AZ31 Magnesium Alloys under Different Specimen Thickness Conditions (AZ31 마그네슘합금의 시편두께 조건에 따른 실험적 피로균열전파모델 평가)

  • It is the primary aim of this paper to propose the empirical fatigue crack propagation model fit to describe a crack growth behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloys under the different specimen thickness conditions. The empirical models estimated are Paris-Erdogan model, Walker model, Forman model, and modified-Forman model. The parameters of each model are estimated by maximum likelihood method. The statistical crack growth data needed for an estimation of empirical models are obtained by fatigue crack propagation tests under the three cases of specimen thickness. It is found that the good empirical models fit to describe a crack growth behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloys under the different specimen thickness conditions are Paris-Erdogan model and Walker model. It is also verified that a fatigue crack growth rate exponent of a empirical model may be a material constant at the specimen thickness conditions of 4.75mm and 6.60mm.

  • In this study, the delamination analysis has been implemented to investigate the initiation and propagation of crack in composite laminates composed of orthotropic materials. A simple modeling was achieved by moving nodal technique without re-meshing work when crack propagation occurred. This paper aims at achieving two specific objectives. The first is to suggest a very simple modeling scheme compared with those applied to conventional h-FEM based models. To verify the performance of the proposed model, analysis of double cantilever beams with composite materials was implemented and then the results were compared with reference values in literatures. The second one is to investigate the behavior of interior delamination problems using the proposed model. To complete these objectives, the full-discrete-layer model based on Lobatto shape functions was considered and energy release rates were calculated using three-dimensional VCCT(virtual crack closure technique) based on linear elastic fracture mechanics.

Strengthening Effects of Slabs by Aramid Fiber Sheet (아라미드섬유 쉬트에 의한 슬래브의 보강효과)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the structural behaviors of Aramid fiber sheet reinforced slabs. Seven concrete slabs with $45{\times}8.5{\times}200cm$ were made for this experiment one slab with out being reinforced completely loaded until failure and the maximum load was obtained from this test. 70% of the maximum load was applied to 3 Aramid fiber sheet reinforced slabs after cracking and to the rest of 3 Aramid fiber sheet reinforced slabs without loading and cracking. Test results shows that maximum loading flexural rigidity and ductility for the Araimid fiber sheet reinforced slabs after initial cracking are similar as those for the Armied fiber sheet reinforced slabs without loading and cracking.

  • 탄소-탄소 복합체는 가벼우면서 고온에서도 강도의 저하가 적은 특성을 가지고 있어 터빈 블레이드 소재, 우주왕복선의 내열타일 등 광범위 한 고온재료로 응용이 이루어지고 있거나 기대되는 소재이다. 그러나 고온 산화분위기에서 쉽게 산화되는 단점이 있어 이러 한 산화특성을 향상시키는 방법으로 SiC, Si$_3$N$_4$ 등 내산화 저항성이 우수한 재료를 탄소-탄소 복합체 위에 코팅하는 연구가 행해지고 있다. 하지만 이들 코팅층과 탄소-탄소 복합체간의 열팽창계수 차이에 의한 열응력 발생으로 코팅층에 균열이 발생한다. 따라서 탄소-탄소 복합체와 코팅층간의 열응력을 최소화하여 균열 발생을 억제하기 위해 기능경사재료 (Functionally Graded Material, FGM)를 중간층으로 도입하는 방법이 최근 활발히 연구되고 있다. FGM 중간충의 형성방법 중 화학기상증착법 (CVD)은 증착물의 조성이나 미세구조 조절이 용이한 방법으로 알려져 있어 최근 CVD법에 의한 FGM층의 형성에 많은 연구가 진행되고 있지만, 지금까지 CVD법을 이용한C/SiC FGM 중간충의 형성 연구결과에서는 모든 조성비의 C/SiC층의 증착과 치밀한 구조를 지닌 증착층을 얻기가 어려워 체계적인 연구의 진행이 어려웠다.

Testing and Numerical Analysis on the Fracture Characteristics of Composite Adhesive Bonded Single-Lap Joints (복합재료 Single-Lap 본딩 조인트의 파괴 특성에 대한 실험 및 수치해석 연구)

  • The experimental and numerical investigations on the failure characteristics of the secondary bonded composite single-lap joints were performed. The initiations and growths of cracks were observed using CCD camera and acoustic emission sensor during the tension tests of the joint specimens. The structural behaviors of the specimens were predicted by the geometric nonlinear two-dimensional finite element analysis. The three types of observed initial cracks were included in each finite element models and the strain energy release rates of each specimen models were calculated by VCCT(Virtual Crack Closure Technique) technique. The tension tests showed that the initial cracks occurred in the 60∼90% of final failure loads and the major failure modes of the specimens were adhesive failure and the delamination between the 1st and 2nd ply of laminate. The specimens with the thicker bondline had earlier crack initiation loads but higher crack propagation resistance and eventually better loading capability. The delaminations were mostly observed in the thicker bondline specimens. The mode I values of calculated strain energy release rates were higher than the mode II values in the all specimen models considering the three types of initial cracks. The mode I and total strain energy release rates were calculated as higher values in the order of initial crack in the edge interface, comer interface and delamination between the plies of laminate.

플라즈마 공정 모니터링용 사중극자 질량 분석기의 필라멘트 파손분석

  • 플라즈마를 포함한 반응성 가스 공정 분석용 사중극자 질량분석기의 필라멘트의 파손양상을 조사하였다. 또한 유전체 증착층이 이온원 성능에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위하여 이온원의 일반적인 가동 전압 조건에서 Poisson방정식을 이용하여 전위를 수치 해석으로 구하였다. 사용중 파손된 필라멘트의 파단면을 주사전자현미경으로 관찰결과, 수직으로 절단되는 양상과 직경이 점차 작아지면서 erosion되는 두가지 양상을 보였다. 또한 파단면은 표면균열과 패시팅(faceting) 현상을 보였다. 필라멘트 사용시 가장 큰 문제는 패시팅(faceting)이다. 대부분의 결정에서는 다른 결정면보다 에너지 준위가 낮은 결정면이 존재한다. W 원자는 고온에서 확산 또는 증발하여 표면에서 다시 응축할 때 표면 에너지를 최소화하기 위한 독특한 평형 형상이 만들어 지는데 이것이 패시팅의 구동력이다. 이때 국부적으로 단면적이 감소하는 곳이 생기는데, 이 지점이 집중적으로 가열되고 증발이 가속화하여 파손된다. 파단면을 EDS 분석결과, 산화물을 포함한 F, Fe 및 C이 검출되었다. 이 F과 C는 공정중 사용된 CF4의 분해에 의한 것으로 생각되며, 파손된 필라멘트를 Ar 유도결합 플라즈마로 처리한 결과 이 F, Fe 및 C의 양이 감소하였다.

Effects of Numerical Modeling on Concrete Heterogeneity (콘크리트 비균질성에 대한 수치모델의 영향)

  • The composition of most engineering materials is heterogeneous at some degree. It is simply a question of scale at which the level of heterogeneity becomes apparent. In the case of cementitious granular materials such as concrete the heterogeneity appears at the mesoscale where it is comprised of aggregate particles, a hardened cement paste and voids. Since it is difficult to consider each separate particle in the topological description explicitly, numerical models of the meso-structure are normally confined to two-phase matrix particle composites in which only the larger inclusions are accounted for. 2-D and 3-D concrete blocks(Representative Volume Element, RVE) are used to simulating heterogeneous concrete meso-structures in the form of aggregates in the hardened mortar with nearly zero-thickness linear or planar interfaces. The numerical sensitivity of these meso-structures are Investigated with respect to the different morphologies of heterogeneity and the different level of coupling constant among fracture mode I, II and III. In addition, a numerically homogenized concrete block in 3-D using Hashin-Shtrikman variational bounds provides an evidence of the effective cracking paths which are quite different with those of heterogenous concrete block. However, their average force-displacement relationship show a pretty close match each other.

Study on the Characteristics of the Corrosion Fatigue Crack Propagation of Al-Alloy used for the Shipbuilding (선박용 알루미늄 합금재의 부식피로구열 진전특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently with the rapid development in marine and shipbuilding industries such as marine structures, ship, and chemical plants, there occurs much interest in the study of corrosion fatigue characteristics was closed up an important role in mechanical design. In this study, the 5086 Al-Alloy was tested by used of a rotary bending fatigue tester and was investigated under the environments of various specific resistance and air. The specific resistance, as a corrosion environment, was changed 15, 20, 25 and 5000$\Omega$.cm. The corrosion fatigue crack initiation sensitivity was quantitatively inspected for 5086 Al-Alloy in the various specific resistance. The experimental constants of Paris rule were examined in the various specific resistances, and the influences of load and corrosion with affect the crack growth rate were compared with. Main results obtained are as follows: (1) Number of stress cycles to corrosion fatigue crack initiation delaies and corrosion fatigue crack initiation sensitivity decreases with the increasing for the specific resistance. (2) The experimental constant m of Paris rule decreases with the decreasing for specific resistance. Hence the effect of corrosion is more susceptible than that of stress intensity factor. (3) The corrosion fatigue crack of 5086 Aluminium Alloy appears intergranular fracture. (4) Corrosion sensitivity is decreased with the increasing stress intensity factor and is nearly uniform when stress intensity factor is over 40kg.mm super(-3/2)
