of Hangalku per plant sold for wild vegetables were 9.1g and 0.9g, and number of leaves was 10.8. Root fresh and dry weights of Hangalku per plant were 19.2g and 4.1g. Thirty five soil samples were collected from the native soils grown Cirsium japonicum DC., and mycorrhizal spores in soils were separated using wet-sieving methods. Number of mycorrhizal spores per 30g fresh soil sized over 500${\mu}$m, 355~500${\mu}$m, 251~354${\mu}$m, 107~250${\mu}$m and 45~106${\mu}$m were 0.6, 2.1, 6.0, 55.3 and 126, etc. Total number of mycorrhizal spores per 30g fresh soil were 190. Root infection by vesicles, hyphae and arbuscules were 13%, 4% and 3%, respectively. As a result of identification, mass propagated mycorrhizal spores by the host plant of Sudangrass were Glomus sp., Gigaspora sp., and Acaulospora sp., and so on.
This study was conducted to investigate into the distribution of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in the greenhouse soils grown strawberry plants in Damyang and Jangheung districts. Twenty three soil samples were collected from strawberry plants under greenhouse conditions, and mycorrhizal spores in soils were separated using wet-sieving methods. Number of mycorrhizal spores per 30g fresh soil sized over 500${\mu}$m, 355~500${\mu}$m, 251~354${\mu}$m, 107~250${\mu}$m and $45{\sim}106{\mu}m$ were 0.3, 1.0, 4.2, 50.4 and 119, etc. Total number of spores per 30g fresh soil were l73.9. Root infection by vesicles and hyphae were 25% and 4%, respectively. Mycorrhizal root infection by arbuscules was not shown in strawberry roots. Isolated mycorrhizal spores were inoculated into the host plant of sudangrass to identify the genus of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, and propagated for 4 months. As a result of identification, mass propagated mycorrhizal spores were Glomus sp., Gigaspora sp., and Acaulospora sp., and so on.

The symbiotic properties of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF) such as the absence and/or presence of symbiosis, spore density, and six factors of phycochemical properties of soil were investigated in the rhizosphere of seven sand dune plants and three control plants around Kum river. The infection of AMF was confirmed in all plants. Three genera, nine species of the AMF spores were identified in the sand dune; Ac. scrobiculata, G. aggregatum, G. convolutum, G. diaphanum, G. dimophicum, G. geosporum, G. vesiculiferum, G. tortuosum, S. pachycaulis. All of them were also found in the control, but S. pachycaulis were only separated in the sand dune. In the control, three genera, four species were identified; G. flavisporum, Gi. margarita, Sc. gregaria. Sc. persica. The species specificity was not found between the sand dune plant and AMF. However, the AMF was thought to be correlated with the soil factors. The spore density was stimulated with increase of the organic matter and the nitrogen content, but inhibited with the water content and the phosphorus content. In respect of the seasonal factor, the spore density was increased in the late growth period of plants.
Mulberry Seedlings germinated and grown under green house conditions were inoculated with Glomus mosseae, Mosse and Trappe (a Kind of Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae) prior to outplanting into unsterilized soil. They were grown on phosphate deficient soil for 6 months after planting. Shoot length, stem diameter and leaf yield of the inoculated plants were found to be significantly greater than uninoculated ones. It was observed in foliar mineral content that the levels of N, P$_2$O$\sub$5/, CaO of the inoculated plants were higher but the level of MgO of the inoculated plants was lower than the uninoculated ones. In the mineral content of roots, it was observed that the level of P$_2$O$\sub$5/ was higher but the level of N was lower significantly in the inoculated plants than the uninoculated ones.
Sixty five soil specimens were collected from the nineteen leguminous plant roots throughout 9 sites in four Provinces from Augast 12 to November 21, 1991. VA-mycorrhizal spores isolated from the collected soils were identified and classified into four genera 21 species. However, six spores were newly found and described here: Acaulospora elegans, A. undulata, Glomus laminated spores of. macrocarpus var. macrocarpus, Gl. WUMI%3, Gl. scintillans, Scutellospora verrucosa. Species of three spores that belong to 3 genera; Acaulospora sp., Glomus sp., Scutellospora sp. were unidentified.
Ten isolates of the orchid mycorrhizal fungi were isolated from the roots of Korean native orchid plants (Cymbidium goeringii) which inhabitate mainly in southern and western areas of Korea. The growth rates and color of the isolates in potato dextrose agar (PDA) were various. Microscopic observations of the hyphae isolated were identified as Rhizoctonia repens and R. endophytica var endophytica or their related species. R. repens was isolated from the roots of the Korean native orchids, but R. endophytica var endophyica was only isolated from the roots of the commercial orchids introduced from foreign countries. Also, the polymorephic patterns of genomic DNA extracted from selected isolates were compared with those of DNA extracted from the orchid mycorrhizal fungi isolated previously and similar band patterns were observed among those isolates. Five isolates of R. repens were selected and cultured at the oatmeal agar for investigating their symbiosis with orchid plants. The symbiotic specificity between orchid plants and isolated orchid mycorrhizal fungi was observe by growing orchids about six months in the greenhouse. The symbiotic responses of the commercial orchid plants with selected isolates were quite different form different isolates due to the genetic variations.
The nitrogen source-requirement and preference of ectomycorrhizal fungi (42 strains belong to 13 genera) collected from Korean forests were investigated by incubating mycelial cells in four nitrogen source test media for 56 days. The nitrogen requirement was relatively high in five strains (Heimioporus japonicas (KFRI 1224), Suillus luteus (KFRI 1232), Tylopilus castaneiceps (KFRI 1383), Suillus granulates (KFRI 1997), Rhizopogon sp. (KFRI 1434)) in comparison with other strains. Forty-five percent of ectomycorrhizal strains including Boletus griseus (KFRI 1362) preferred the ammonium-form of inorganic nitrogen source for mycelial growth, whereas thirty-six percent of tested strains including Suillus grevillei (KFRI 1125) preferred the nitrate-form as an inorganic nitrogen source.
Of the 103 species (41 families) sampled from two limestone bites in Korea, 98 species (95.1%) contained VA mycorrhizae. No mycorrhizal structures were observed in the other 5 species. The nonmycorrhizal species were members of the following 4 families: Equisetaceae, Davalliaceae, Amaranthaceae and Ericacene. Of the 124 species (51 families) sampled from two different nonlimestone sites, 99 species (79.8%) were found to contain VA mycorrhizae and no mycorrhizal structures were observed in the other 25 species. The nonmycorrhizal species were members of the following 16 families: Equisetaceae, Pteridacaea, Davalliaceae, Cyperaceae, Commelinaceae, Polygonaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Phytolaceaceae, Amaranthaceae, Aizoaceae, Portulacaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Fumariaceae, Cruciferae, Ericaceae and Rubiaceae.
In this study, we analyzed the diversity of ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungal communities of Quercus spp. roots in the limestone area. We identified 45 generd of ECM using next generation sequencing (NGS) analysis. Soil chemical composition analysis confirmed soil pH, substitution calcium concentration, total nitrogen content, organic phosphate, and organic matter content. Shannon's Index was calculated according to the changes in soil chemical composition. The results of cluster analysis showed that Sebacina, Tomentella, Tuber, Densospora, Inocybe, Suillus, and Piloderma were the main genera of symbiotic ECM fungi that thrived in soil with high pH and calcium content.
Mattirolomyces terfezioides is a type of sweet truffles that predominantly form ectomycorrhizae with Robinia pseudoacacia. It is also worthy of artificial cultivation. This is the first report on characteristics of mycelial growth and enzyme activities of M. terfezioides collected from R. pseudoacacia forest in Korea. M. terfezioides showed the highest mycelial growth when cultured on potato dextrose agar (PDA) at $30^{\circ}C$ or in modified Melin-Norkran's liquid medium (pH 8.0). The biomass of M. terfezioides was higher in liquid medium containing nitrate-nitrogen than ammonium-nitrogen by 1.8 fold. The mycelia of M. terfezioides showed both carboxymethylcellulase and laccase activities on solid media for enzyme screening.
