Fluosilicic acid ($H_2SiF_6$) is recovered as aqueous solution which absorbs $SiF_4$ produced from the manufacturing of industrial-graded $H_3PO_4$ or HF. Generally, fluosilicate salts prepared by the reaction between $H_2SiF_6$ and metal salts. Addition of fluosilicate salts to cement endows odd properties through unique chemical reaction with the fresh and hardened cement. In this study, two-component fluosilicate salt based chemical admixtures (MZ) of $4\%,\;6\%$, and $8\%$ concentration were prepared by the reaction of $H_2SiF_6$ ($25\pm2\%$) and metal salts. The effect of concentration of MZ at a constant adding ratio on the hydration and watertightness of cement were investigated respectively. In a cement containing MZ, metal fluorides such as $CaF_2$ and soluble silica by hydrolysis were newly formed during hydration. The total porosity of the hardened cement was lower in the presence of U because of packing role of metal fluoride and pozzolanic reaction of soluble $SiO_2$. Consequently, the watertightness of the hardened paste containing MZ was more improved than non-added (plain) due to an odd hydration between cement and MZ.
Mineral carbonation has been proposed as a possible way for $CO_2$ sequestration. The electric arc furnace slags consist of calcium, magnesium and aluminum silicates in various combinations. If they could be used instead of natural mineral silicates for carbonation, considerable energy savings and $CO_2$ emissions reductions could be achieved. Indirect aqueous carbonation of the slags consists of two steps, extraction of calcium and carbonation. Acetic acid leaching of electric arc furnace slags had been already studied to extract Ca in them, but it was reported that the carbonation of the extracted $Ca^{2+}$ in the leached solution would suffer from too slow kinetics, even at high pressure of $CO_2$. In this work, to develop more efficient extraction of the electric arc furnace slags, hydrochloric acid leaching to separate calcium from them was studied, and the results were compared with the acetic acid ones. The phase boundary between $Ca^{2+}$ and $CaCO_3$ in the solution with pH was determined by thermodynamic calculations. Hydrochloric acid was more effective than acetic acid for the extraction of Ca in electric arc furnace slag, and there is a possibility to recycle an unreacted hydrochloric acid in the leached solution by electrolysis or evaporation.
Understanding the effect of boron content on atomic structures of boron-bearing multicomponent silicate melts is essential to reveal the atomistic origins of diverse geochemical processes involving silica-rich magmas, such as explosive volcanic eruption. The detailed atomic environments around B and Al in boron-bearing complex aluminosilicate glasses yield atomistic insights into reactivity of nuclear waste glasses in contact with aqueous solutions. We report experimental results on the effect of boron content on the atomic structures of sodium borate glasses and boron-bearing multicomponent silicate melts [malinkoite ($NaBSiO_4$)-nepheline ($NaAlSiO_4$) pseudo-binary glasses] using the high-resolution solid-state NMR ($^{11}B$ and $^{27}Al$). The $^{11}B$ MAS NMR spectra of sodium borate glasses show that three-coodrinated boron ($^{[3]}B$) increases with increasing $B_2O_3$ content. While the spectra imply that the fraction of non-ring species decreases with decreasing boron content, peak position of the species is expected to vary with Na content. Therefore, the quantitative estimation of the fractions of the ring/non-ring species remains to be explored. The $^{11}B$ MAS NMR spectra of the glasses in the malinkoite-nepheline join show that four-coordinated boron ($^{[4]}B$) increases as $X_{Ma}$ [$=NaBSiO_4/(NaBSiO_4+NaAlSiO_4)$] increases while $^{[3]}B$ decreases. $^{27}Al$ MAS NMR spectra of the multicomponent glasses confirm that four-coordinated aluminum ($^{[4]}Al$) is dominant. It is also observed that a drastic decrease in the peak widths (full-width at half-maximum, FWHM) of $^{[4]}Al$ with an addition of boron ($X_{Ma}=0.25$) in nepheline glasses. This indicates a decrease in structural and topological disorder around $^{[4]}Al$ in the glasses with increasing boron content. The quantitative atomic environments around boron of both binary and multicomponent glasses were estimated from the simulation results of $^{11}B$ MAS NMR spectra, revealing complex-nonlinear variation of boron topology with varying composition. The current results can be potentially used to account for the structural origins of the change in macroscopic properties of boron-bearing oxide melts with varying boron content.

We have been investigated the effects of the initial pH of the aquous solution, reaction temperature and time for the flaking of the soda-lime glass container. Flaking of glass occuurred in the cases of the $121^{\circ}C$, above pH 11 of solution with no $Mg^{2+}$ ions in solution. The pH of the solution approached to pH 10 under the conditions of below pH 9 of start solution. The flaking mechanism of the glass seem to be composed of formation of leached layer of $Ca^{2+}$ and $Na^{2+}$ ion and separation of these layers during the cooling by the difference of thermal expansion between leached layer and glass surface. The leaching of alkali ions in glass depends on the pH condition of the start solution and the temperature. In the case of $Mg^{2+}$ ions are added, $Mg^{2+}$ ions accelerate the flaking of the sodalime glasses and forms the magnesium silicate compound which result in the decrease of the pH of the solution.
This study was carried out to elucidate the effective of some swelling agents on the soaking treatment of raw silk. The swelling of raw silk is commonly practiced by soaking in warm water, However, it is not enough to weaving of raw silk. Therefore, the combination of some chemical agents were tested to improve the swelling ratio of raw silk. The pretreatment of raw silk in 0.4N sodium carbonate aqueous solution before soaking in the mixed solution of Emulon 1 g/l, Emanol 0.5 g/l and 0.04N sodium silicate increased the swelling ratio by 57%, compared to the nontreatment. In SEM observation, the surface of raw silk soaked in swelling agents was swollen and smoothed.

Nanoporous $SiO_2$ particles containing different pore volume and size were prepared from silicic acid by a spray pyrolysis. The pore size, pore volume and particle size could be controlled with varying the precursor concentration, reaction temperature, and amount of organic templates such as Urea and poly ethylene glycol (PEG). The pore size distribution, pore volume and specific surface area of as-prepared particles were analyzed by BET and BJH methods, and the average particle sizes were measured by a laser diffraction method. The nanoporous $SiO_2$ particles ranged $0.6-0.9{\mu}m$ in diameter were successfully synthesized and the average particle size increased as the silicic acid concentration increased. The morphology of nanoporous $SiO_2$ particles was spherical and pores ranged 1 - 40 nm in diameter were measured in the particles. In case of Urea added into silicic acid, it showed no much difference in the morphology, pore size and pore volume at different Urea concentration. On the other hand, when PEG was added, it was clearly observed that pore diameter and pore volume of the particles surface increased with respect to PEG concentration.

Spherical mesoporous silica particles, of which main pore diameter was 3.8 nm, were successfully prepared by spray pyrolysis from aqueous silicic acid. The effect of precursor concentration, reaction temperature, and the addition of urea and PEG on the particle diameter and pore properties such as pore diameter, total pore volume, and specific surface area were investigated by using FE-SEM, particle size analyzer, and nitrogen absorption-desorption analysis. With an increase of the precursor concentration from 0.2 M to 0.7 M, the average particle diameter, total pore volume, and specific surface area of the porous silica particles increased from 0.56 to $0.96\;{\mu}m$, 0.434 to $0.486\;cm^3/g$, 467.8 to $610.4\;m^2/g$, respectively. Within the temperature range $(600\;^{\circ}C{\sim}800\;^{\circ}C)$, there was no significant difference in the pore diameter, total pore volume, and specific surface area. In addition, the addition of urea as an expansion aid led to slight increases in particle diameter, pore diameter, and specific surface area. However, when the polyethylene glycol (PEG) as an organic template was used, the total pore volume of porous particles increased dramatically.
By using a liquid-mix precursor, we prepared the hollow glass spheres(HGS) as an additive of polymer compound which are used in the field of modifier, promoter, filler, and reinforcement. Liquid-mix precursor is a mixture of 40% sodium silicate aqueous solution, boric acid as a insolubilizing agent, and urea as a blowing agent. To obtain the precursor particles which are fed into a gas flame furnae, the above liquid-mix precursor was dried in oven and crushed with ball mill. We assumed the size of precursor particles ($53{\sim}63{\mu}m$, $63{\sim}180{\mu}m$), temperature of furnace($800{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$), and amount of urea(0~30 g) as the parameters affecting on the properties of HGS. As a result mean particle size of HGS increases with increasing the temperature of furnace and the amount of urea and with decreasing the size of precursor particles. Also, we found that incresing the amount of urea is related to a decrease of the crush strength of HGS.
The iron incorporation method according to addition steps during the synthesis of iron incorporated MCM-41 was examined systematically. Iron addition during pH adjustment was more effective than the other addition steps which were addition to template agent solution or addition after mixing of template agent and sodium silicate solution. In case of iron addition after extraction of template agent from as-synthesized silica MCM-41, most of the iron was on the surface of pores not the frame work structure. Although the amount of iron addition was increased, there was a limit to the amount of iron incorporated into framework structure of MCM-41. The synthesized FeMCM-41 catalyst showed catalytic activities for propylene oxidation. Otherwise, there might be no attractive differences of catalytic activity among the addition steps of iron.

The structure of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings was investigated as a function of NaOH concentration in 0.06 M $Na_2SiO_3$ + 0.06 M $Na_3PO_4$ solution by using SEM and epoxy replica method. The PEO film was formed on AZ31 Mg alloy by the application of anodic pulse current with 0.2 ms width and its formation behavior was studied by voltage-time curves during the formation of PEO films. It was found that the addition of NaOH into $PO_4{^{3-}}$ and $SiO_3{^{2-}}$ containing aqueous solution causes a decrease in the PEO film formation voltage, suggesting that dielectric breakdown of the PEO becomes easier with increasing $OH^-$ ion concentration in the solution. With increasing $OH^-$ ion concentration, thickness of the PEO film increased and surface roughness decreased. The size of pores formed in the PEO layer became smaller and the number of cracks in the PEO layer increased with increasing $OH^-$ ion concentration. Based on the experimental results obtained in the work, it is suggested that $OH^-$ ions in the solution can contribute not only to the dielectric breakdown but also to the formation of PEO films in the presence of $PO_4{^{3-}}$ and $SiO_3{^{2-}}$ ions in the solution.
