The transition area between a bridge and an earthwork is one of the weakest area of track because of the track geometry deterioration caused unequal settlement of backfill of abutment. In case of a ballastless track, the approach slab could be installed to prevent such a phenomenon. But, if there is occurred the inclined displacement on the approach slab by a settlement of the foundation or formation, the track is also under the inclined displacement. And this defect causes reducing the running stability of a vehicle, the riding comfort of passengers, and increasing the track deteriorations by excessive impact force acting on the track. In this study, parametric studies were performed to investigate the displacement limit on the approach slab to avoid such problems. The length and the amount of unequal settlement of approach slab were adopted as parameter for numerical analysis considering vehicle-track interaction. Car body accelerations, variations of wheel force, stresses in rail, and uplift forces induced on fastener clip were investigated. From the result, resonable settlement limit on the end of an approach slab according to slab length was suggested.
Track system and periodic live load are characteristics of railway bridges. In the design and construction of railway bridge, periodic live load increases the importance of dynamic behavior. And It is well known that behavior of railway bridge may be affected by track system in real bridge. Through experimental study, static and dynamic behaviors were investigated. Deflection and stress due to bending moment were measured, the location of neutral axis of each section, natural frequency, damping ratio were analyzed for each three track systems - girder only, installed ballast track system and installed concrete slab track system. According to measured values for the each type of track system, concrete track system increases the stiffness of bridge by 50%, and ballast system does by 7%, dynamic responses of structure change linearly with the magnitude of load and location of neutral axis of each sections varies with each track system. Damping ratio is almost equal without and with track. Therefore, the effects of track system on the integral behaviors of railway bridge can not be ignored in the design of bridge, especially in the case of concrete slab track system. So study of the quantitative analysis method for effects of track system must be performed.
According to continuous welded rails on a bridge, temperature changes bring about the expansion of the bridge deck, adding axial forces on the track. Moreover, the ballast on the bridge deck expansion joint is moved due to the bridge deck. The longer the bridge deck is, the greater the influence will be, loosening the ballast, causing track irregularities, and deteriorating passenger comfort. Considering the structure of the bridge itself and tolerance for track irregularities caused by the loosened ballast on the bridge, the maximum length of the deck should be less than 80 m, which is the same as the standard of French railways. In this study, the interaction between the expansion related to the bridge length and the irregularity in the longitudinal level, referring to measurements and maintenance work performed in high-speed railways, was analyzed. This research shows that the installation of a sliding plate or a vertical ballast stopper is not a good option, since it is difficult. On the other hand, the installation of a ZLR fastener or gluing is easy, but its influence is insignificant. In conclusion, switch tie tamping or manual tamping is more effective than other methods of what?
Hanging sleepers are frequently observed in the ballasted track with the rail of high rigidity. These hanging sleepers at the high speed line could cause such large dynamic force compared to those at the conventional line. This dynamic force would, in turn, deteriorate train running stability as well as riding comfort, and accelerate irregularity of track and failure of track materials, leading to a sharp increase in track maintenance cost. When the wheel-rail contact spring exhibits nonlinear behavior and some components of the system like hanging sleeper exhibit bi-linear behaviors, an effective analytical method is proposed for train-track interactions. The verification of the present method is carried out comparing numerical results by the present method and those by Ono's method of RTRI.
The present study investigates the influences of vehicle induced loads on the thermal buckling behavior of straight and curved continuous welded rail (CWR) tracks. Quasi-static loads model is assumed to determine the uplift region, which occurs due to the vertical track deflection induced by wheel loads of vehicle. The lateral loads of vehicle induced by weight, the speed, the superelevation and curvature of track, and other dynamic vehicle track interaction, are included in the ratio of lateral to vertical vehicle load. Parametric numerical analyses are perfomed to calculate the upper and lower critical buckling temperatures of CWR tracks, and the comparison between the results of this work and the previous results without vehicle is also included.

Recently, concrete tracks are introduced into high-speed railroads as an alternative to ballast tracks. Concrete tracks are superior to ballast tracks in the aspect of durability, maintenance and safety. However, deteriorated stiffness of railroad bed and settlement of soft ground induced by trapped or seepage water lead to problems in safety of train operation. In this research, flexural rigidity of concrete tracks was employed as an index of track displacement and a new seismic technique called FRACTAL (Flexural-Rigidity Assessment of Concrete Tracks by Antisymmetric Lamb Waves) method was proposed to delineate flexural rigidity of concrete tracks in a 2-D image. In this paper, to establish theoretical background, parametric research was performed using numerical simulations of stress-wave tests at concrete tracks. Feasibility of the FRACTAL technique was proved at a real concrete track for Korean high-speed trains. Validity of the FRACTAL technique was also verified by comparing the results of impulse-response tests performed at the same measurement array and the results of DC resistivity survey performed at a shoulder nearby the track.
According to continuos welded rails on a bridge, temperature changes bring about the expansion of the bridge deck adding axil forces on the track. Moreover, the ballast on the bridge deck expansion joint is moved due to the bridge deck. If bridge decks are longer, the influence is greater, loosening ballast, causing track irregularities, and deteriorating passengers' comfort. Considering structure of bridge itself and tolerance of track irregularities caused by the loosened ballast on bridges, the maximum length of a deck should be less than 80m, which is the same as the standard of the French railway. In this study, an interaction between the expansion related to the bridge length and irregularity in longitudinal level referring to measurements and maintenance works performed in the high-speed railways was analyzed. This research shows that installation of sliding plate or vertical ballast stopper is not a good option since it is difficult to install. On the other hand, installation of movable fastener or gluing is easy but its influence is insignificant. To conclude, switch tie tamping or manual tamping is more effective than others.

Recently, with increasing social interests on noise and vibration induced by railway traffic, the application of floating slab track that can efficiently reduce the railway vibration is increasing. In this study, to more accurately understand the dynamic behavior of the floating slab track, a laboratory mock-up test has been performed, and the static and dynamic behaviors at frequency range near the system resonance frequency were explored. Based on the test results, the design of the floating slab track and the structural analysis model used in the design have been verified. The analytic and test results demonstrate that the dominant frequency of the floating slab track occurs at the frequencies between vertical rigid body mode natural frequency and bending mode natural frequency, and the dominant deformation mode is close to the bending mode. This suggests that in the design of the floating slab track, the bending rigidity of the slab and the boundary conditions at slab joints and slab ends should be taken into consideration. Also, the analytic results by the two-dimensional finite element analysis model using Kelvin-Voigt model, such as static and dynamic deflections and force transmissibility, are found in good agreement with the test results, and thus the model used in this study has shown the reliability suitable to be utilized in the design of the floating slab track.
High speed railway bridge is affected on safety of bridge by dynamic amplification effect, when dynamic response of bridge is equal to effect cycle load for rolling stock axle according to high speed operation train. And excessive deformation of structure has negative effect on operation safety of train and comfort of passenger due to fluctuation of wheel load by torsion of track etc. and decrease of contact force on vehicle wheel-rail. To ensure the safety of track and train operation safety, it is have to perform the study on resonance and deformation of structure. That criteria and requirement of railway bridge is limitation of vertical acceleration on deck for dynamic behavior of structure, contact of vehicle wheel and rail, limitation of face distortion and rotation angle of end deck, and limitation of vertical displacement by train. Unlike KYEONGBU High Speed Railway, New constructed HONAM High Speed Railway have to applied the new requirement for dynamic behavior safety according to change of condition which is type of ballast (slab ballast), interval of track, and actual rolling stock load. Therefore, in this paper, it was conformed the dynamic characteristic due to parameter, which related with above mentioned criteria, for steel composite bridges.

LWDT was developed for use as an alternative technique to measure the stiffness of trackbed soils. In this study, numerical and theoretical analyses of LWDT's acting mechanism were performed. The effectiveness of the adapted elastic formula used for calculation of the dynamic modulus, Evd, was investigated theoretically and also numerically by running ABAQUS analysis. The minimum thickness of the upper layer is proposed based on the analysis. Correction factors for the formula of elastic modulus are also proposed in this study. In the future, following field test results and laboratory mechanical tests such as the resonant column test, a guideline for the use of LWDT as a standard test protocol in track construction sites, as a measuring tool for the degree of compaction and/or stiffness and dynamic modulus, will be proposed based on this analysis.
