Prediction of the Bending Effect of an Archwire for Orthodontics (치아교정용 호선의 굽힘 영향 예측)

  • For orthodontic treatment, most commonly, an archwire is inserted into orthodontic brackets that can be made from stainless steel. Then, the archwires interact with the brackets to move teeth into the desired positions. However, the activation of an archwire may induce undesirable rotation of a tooth due to the moment application. An appropriate magnitude of the gable bends of an archwires prevents its rotation. However, it is not easy to predict the relationship between the rotation and the gable bend. This study presents the numerical approach to predict the rotation of a tooth with respect to the gable bend in the activation of an archwire. To predict the rotation of a tooth, the kriging interpolation method is introduced.

  • Metallic sandwich plates are ultra-light materials with not only high strength and stiffness but also multifunctional. Inner dimpled shell structure can be fabricated by piecewise sectional forming process, and then bonded with same material face sheets by resistance welding. Tests have shown that sandwich plates with dimpled shell structure subject to bending have more collapse load, energy absorption and deflection before collapse than other types of sandwich plates. Consequently, inner dimpled shell structure can improve formability of sandwich plates for bending.

  • Embossed aluminum sheets were been used in heat insulation purpose for automative exhaust parts because of increasing their surface areas and stiffness reinforcement. However, there are many restrictions because of high rate of wrinkle occurrence on press working. We have performed the tensile and bending tests for embossed sheets to clarity its mechanical properties and springback characteristics. Embossed aluminum sheets showed a different flow stress after plastic yielding due to flattening the embossed cone shape. Above all, yield stress of parallel embossed specimen decreases while its diagonal one increases and the decrease of young's modulus in the embossed sheets contributes to the increase of springback amount.

  • The bending process for the circular curved tube and rectangular curved tube with fins can be developed by the hot metal extrusion machine with the multiple punches moving in the different velocity. The bending phenomenon can be controlled by the two variables. The one of them is the difference of velocity at the die exit section by the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container. The other is the one by the different hole diameter. The results of the experiment show that the circular curved tube with fins and rectangular curved tube with pins can be formed by the extrusion process and that the curveture of the product can be controlled by the velocity of punch and diameter of container hole and that the defects such as the distortion of section and the thickness change of the wall of tube the folding and wrinkling of thin tube and fins did not happen after the bending processing by the extrusion bending machine.

  • The kinematically admissible velocity field is developed for the analysis of extruded products. The curving of product in extrusion is caused by the linearly distributed longitudinal velocity on the cross-section of the workpiece at the die exit. In the analysis, the longitudinal velocity in extrusion direction is divided into the uniform velocity and the deviated velocity. In order to satisfy the requrement of the kinematically admissible velocity field, the average value of the deviated velocity should be zero. At the same time, it should linearly change with the distance form the center of gravity of the cross-section of the workpiece. The results of the analysis show that the curvature of product increses with increses in eccentricity of gravity center of the cross-section of workpiece at die entrance form that of the cross-section at the die exit. In the analysis, the longitudinal velocity in extrusion direction is divided into the uniform velocity and the deviated velocity. In order to satisfy the requrement of the kinematically admissible velocity field, the average value of the deviated velocity should be zero. At the same time, it should linearly change with the distance from the center of gravity of the cross-section of the workpiece.   • This paper describes a research work of developing a computer-aided design of product with bending constraints and piercing for progressive working. an approach to the CAD system is based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the CAD system is formulated from plasticity theories, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. The system has been written AutoLISP on the AutoCAD with a personal computer and is composed of four main modules, which are input and shape treatment, flat pattern layout, production feasibility check, and strip-layout module. Based on knowledge-based rules, the system is designed by considering several factors, such as radius and angle of bend, material and thickness of product, complexities of blank geometry and punch profile, bending sequence, availability of press. Strip layout drawing generated by piercing with punch profiles divide into automatically for external area is shown into graphic forms, including bending sequences for the product with piercing and bending constraints. Results obtained using the modules enable the designer and manufacturer of piercing and bending dies to be more efficient in this field.

  • Pyramid type three roll bending machines are widely used in roll-bending process to produce singly curved plate. In forming singly curved plate, controlling the vertical displacement of the center roller is most important to acquire the shape required and automation system of the process. In this paper roller bending process is modeled as an elastic-plastic phenomenon and analyzed using beam theory and finite element method. In finite element analysis the workpiece is modeled by using beam elements and plane strain elements respectively. Through the analyses vertical center roller displacement is obtained to get constant curvature distribution along arc length. The relationship between center roller displacement and curvature in steady state as well as residual stress and strain along plate thickness direction are calculated through finite element analysis.

  • 최근 미래지향적 고부가가치의 첨단 산업 전반에 걸친 세계 각국의 연구 개발 노력이 더 한층 가속되 어지면서 특히 항공, 우주, 신운송기기, 정보 통신기기, 메카높틱스, 전자산업, 메카트로닉스 등에 있어 보다 더 가혹한 조건과 분위기 하에서도 우수한 특성과 다양한 기능성 등을 유지할 수 있는 신소재로의 소재 대체화 요구가 높아지게 되어졌다. 국내 역시 최근 다양한 종류의 세라믹스를 생산 하고있긴 하나 이와 같은 기계적 특성치를 구하기 위한 시험편의가공 및 제작을 최적화 수행하지 못하는 관계로 인하여 동일한 소재를 갖고도 충분히 신뢰도있는 데이터들이나 높은 값의 데이터들을 제시하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 굽힘 강도측정용 세라믹스 시험편을 최적 가공함으로써 기계적 특성치를 최대로발휘하 고자 한 바, 기 발표한 연삭 가공 조건 변화에 따른 최적화 가공 연구에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 것으로 보여지는 연삭 공구에 대한 "In-process dressign"을 최초로 도입하여 일반 연삭 가공을 실행해 봄으로써 그 효과를 명확히 규명하고자 하였으며, 이를 토대로 실제 부품화에 있어서나 Creep-feed grinding에 있어서도 적용할 수 있는 가에 대해서도 알아보고자 하였다.알아보고자 하였다.

Bending Creep and Creep Facture of Alumina under High-Temperature (알루미나의 고온 굽힘 크리프 및 크리프 파괴)

  • The creep behavior and creep fracture of alumina at high temperature were investigated under four point flexural test. The steady-state creep behavior was observed at low bending stress and the primary creep until fracture was observed at high bending stress. The loading history of bending stress did not affect on the steady-stated creep rate. Intergranular fracture was dominant for fracture of alumina at room and high temperature. However, transgranular fracture was dominant on creep fracture of alumina under high temperature by nuclueation and growth of microcracks due to residual flaws or cavities in the material.
