The Effect of an Interocclusal Appliance on Head and Neck Posture (교합장치물이 두경부 자세에 미치는 영향)

  • 두개하악장애는 환자의 신체적 소인, 관련조직의 구조적 변화, 정신적 스트레스 등의 복합적 요인에 의 발생하는 다인성 질환으로 최근 대두되는 원인중의 하나가 신체, 특히 두경부의 자세이상이다. 비정상적인 두경부자세는 하악의 위치변화를 수반하여 종종 두개하악장애를 야기시키게 되나 이를 설명할 수 있는 과학적 증거는 아직 부족한 실정이다. 저자는 두경부 자세가 교합장치물에 의해 변화되는지를 저작근의 근전도학적 측면에서 규명하고자 21세에서 26세의 치과대학생으로 치아상실 및 교합간섭이 없고 두 개하악장애의 증후 및 경부운동제한을 가지지 않은 정상인 20명을 대상으로 각도계를 사용하여 시상면상에서 인위적으로 유도한 세 가지의 두경부자세변화 (0$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$ 굴절, 45$^{\circ}$ 신전)에 따른 교합안정장치의 장착(1시 간) 전후 및 안정위와 근접촉위(초기치아접촉위)에서의 두경부 근육(측두근, 교근, 악이복근)의 근전도를 Bioelectric Microprocessor EM2ⓡ를 사용하여 측정한 후 통계학적으로 비교, 분석, 평가하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 교합안정장치 장착전 하악 안정위 및 근접촉위에서 두부의 30$^{\circ}$굴절은 악이복근의 근활성도를, 45$^{\circ}$신전은 교근 및 악이복근의 근활성도를 증가시켰다.(p<0.05) 2. 교합안정장치 장착후 하악 안정위에서 두부의 30$^{\circ}$굴절은 악이복근의 근활성도를, 45$^{\circ}$신전은 교근 및 악이복근의 근활성도를 증가시켰으며, 하악 근접촉위에서 두부의 45$^{\circ}$신전은 악이복근의 근활성도를 증가시켰다(p<0.05). 3. 교합안정장치 장착 전후 및 두부의 30$^{\circ}$굴절, 45$^{\circ}$신전에 따른 측두군 및 교근의 하악 근접촉위에서의 근활성도가 안정위에서의 근활성도에 비해 유의한 증가를 나타냈다(p<0.05).

Polymer Waveguide Based Refractive Index Sensor Using Polarimetric Interference (편광 간섭을 이용한 광도파로 기반의 표면 굴절률 센서)

  • A novel refractive index sensor, which consists of polymer channel waveguide overlaid with $TiO_2$ thin film, is demonstrated. To evaluate the fabricated sensor, we measured the polarimetric interference induced by concentration change of injected glycerol solution. Our experimental results show that thicker $TiO_2$ film improves the sensitivity of the polarimetric interferometer. For the fabricated waveguide with a 20 nm thick $TiO_2$ film, the measured index change to lead phase variation of $2{\pi}$ is $1.8{\times}10^{-3}$.

Evaluation of Reliability for Combined Refractive Power of Lenses in an Automatic Phoropter (자동포롭터 내부렌즈의 합성굴절력에 대한 신뢰도 평가)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the reliability of refractive power by comparing the marked refractive power in an automatic phoropter and actually measured spherical/cylindrical refractive power. Methods: Actual refractive power of minus spherical lens and cylindrical lens in an automatic phoropter was measured by a manual lensmeter and compared with the accuracy of marked refractive power. Furthermore, combined refractive power and spherical equivalent refractive power of two overlapped lenses were compared and evaluated with the refractive power of trial lens. Results: An error of 0.125 D and more against the marked degree was observed in 70.6% of spherical refractive power of spherical lens which is built in phoropter, and the higher error was shown with increasing refractive power. Single cylindrical refractive power of cylindrical lens is almost equivalent to the marked degree. Combined spherical refractive power was equivalent to spherical refractive power of single lens when spherical lens and cylindrical lens were overlapped in a phoropter. Thus, there was no change in spherical refractive power by lens overlapping. However, there was a great difference, which suggest the effect induced by overlapping between cylindrical refractive power and the marked degree when spherical lens and cylindrical lens were overlapped. Spherical equivalent refractive power measured by using a phoropter was lower than that estimated by trial glasses frame and marked degree. The difference was bigger with higher refractive power. Conclusions: When assessment of visual acuity is made by using an automatic phoropter for high myopes or myopic astigmatism, some difference against the marked degree may be produced and they may be overcorrected which suggests that improvement is required.

Analysis of ethanol concentration and refractive-index by use of surface plasmon resonance effect (표면 플라즈몬 공명에 의한 에탄올의 농도 및 굴절률 분석)

  • A surface plasmon sensor has been fabricated for detection of concentration and refractive-index of a mixed solution. Based on the Kretschmann-Raether attenuated-total-reflection configuration, the sensor consists of 54 nm-thick Ag metal layer under a prism and a cell containing the mixed solution. We have observed a nonlinear refractive-index change as the ethanol-water concentration increased. The experimental results show us that the detection limit of the SPR sensor is 3$\times$10$^{-2}$ % in ethanol mass ratio. The concentration-to-index curve shows a linear increase in the range of ethanol concentration from 0% to 50%, but a nonlinearity is observed beyond 50%. We have modeled the nonlinearity and compared it with the experimental results.

  • To study the ametropia and the sort of glasses, especially progressive multifocal lens, for near purpose on Middle aged & Manhood. 500 adults were tested by the object and subject methods. Among the 500 adults, myopia is 22.4%, hyperopia is 61.4%, and emmetropia is 16.2%, respectively. In test of astigmatism, the amount of astigmatism for the age of forty one to under forty five with-the rule is 28%, the amount of astigmatism against-the rule is 43% and the amount of astigmatism with oblique is 11%, respectively. Whereas, the amount of astigmatism for the age of fifty six to under sixty with-the rule is 10%, the amount of astigmatism against-the rule is 71% and the amount of astigmatism with oblique is 19%, respectively. With-the-rule decreased with increasing age while against-the-rule increased with increasing age. The oblique astigmatism relationship to age could not be determined. The ratio of the progressive multifocal lens was 67.3% for male and 35% for female.

A Novel Asymmetric Vertical Directional Coupler Switch (비대칭 수직 방향성 결합기 스위치)

  • We propose a novel ultra-short asymmetric vertical directional coupler switch (VDCS) with high extinction ratios larger than 30㏈ composed of switching operation induced section (SOIS), extinction ratio adjusted section (ERAS), and extinction ratio enhanced section (ERES). In this VDCSs, switching operation is achieved by changing the refractive index of one core in SOIS. The improvement of extinction ratios larger than 30㏈ for both cross and bar states is achieved by controlling the asymmetry of refractive indices between both cores in ERES. After propagating through ERAS with symmetry in the structure, different extinction ratios between cross and bar states at the end of SOIS are changed to the same value. For this reason, the optimum asymmetry of the refractive indices of cores to have the maximum extinction ratios and the lengths of ERES are the same for cross and bar states. Design guidelines to achieve high extinction ratios with large tolerances are presented.

The contrast sensitivity change of circle contact lens's color by refraction error and illuminance (굴절이상도와 조도에 따른 써클콘택트렌즈의 색상 별 대비감도 변화)

  • This study researched how the refraction error and illumination influence to contrast sensitivity when we wear the circle contact lenses. The study population comprised 16 students and adults(5 of Male, 11 of Female). The study population comprised 16 students and adults(5 of Male, 11 of Female), We measured the contrast sensitivity on uncorrected vision, according to color of circle contact and change the illumination of laboratory. The contrast sensitivity by illumination decreased than unaided vision when they wore the color contact lenses and more increased mesopic than photopic. Compared between black and brown lenses, brown was higher the contrast sensitivity than black. Also emmetropia had significantly differences when we compared the contrast sensitivity of subjects who had emmetropia, myopia and myopia astigmatism whether refractive error has or not. Therefore, it is important to provide sufficient understanding and recognition of color contact lenses.

  • Fused vertical directional coupler switches (FVCSs) with switching operation induced section (SOIS) and extinction ratio enhanced section (ERES) are proposed. Simultaneous Measurement of External Refractive Index and Temperature by Using a Side-polished Fiber Bragg Grating with a Polymer Overlay (폴리머 코팅된 측면 연마 단주기 격자 기반 외부 굴절률 및 온도 동시 측정 센서 연구)

  • A hybrid grating sensing device based on a side-polished fiber Bragg grating (FBG) with a polymer overlay is proposed for simultaneous measurement of external refractive index and temperature. The side-polished FBG, which is insensitive to ambient index change, is utilized for detecting temperature variation, and the polymer overlay is coated on the side-polished FBG for measurement of ambient index change. The temperature sensitivities of the side-polished FBG and the polymer overlay were measured to be 0.01 nm/$^{\circ}C$ and -0.58 nm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively, in a temperature range from $30^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C$. The ambient index sensitivities of the polymer overlay were measured to be 498.8 nm/RIU in an ambient index range from 1.33 to 1.39, 694.9 nm/RIU from 1.39 to 1.42, and 1312 nm/RIU from 1.42 to 1.44.

A study on relationship between myopia and near work in generational comparison (과거 근업과 근시 정도와의 관련성에 관한 세대별 비교 연구)

  • We evaluate the impact of near work has on myopia and how they differ across generation. The study subjects were 201(83 males and 118 females) adults who live in Cheongju and Daejeon. Myopia was defined as more than or equal to (-)2.50D. The subjects were divided myopic and control group. The surveys and eye tests that are related to near work and refractive error were conducted and the relationship between the degree of myopia and near work was investigated. Then, the groups were divided into people in their 20s and 30s and the comparisons were made again. The survey results showed significant differences between myopic and control groups that depended on: hours spent in school and outdoor activities during high school period, degree of refractive error caused by level of exercises during the junior high school and high school years, refractive error based on the type of high schools, also hours spent in school and outdoor activities. When the same question was done on the group in their 20s and 30s, there was a different outcome in trends between the groups and refractive error depending on whether they exercised. The degree of near work is one of the environmental risk factors that affect myopia and must be considered when studying myopic progression. However, when discussing specific behavioral patterns in relations to myopia prevention, culture and visual environment of a given generation must also be considered.
