Plant Locations and Production Networks of the European Civil Aviation Industry: Focus on the Airbus (유럽 민간 항공산업의 생산입지와 생산네트워크: Airbus를 사례로)

  • The European civil aviation industry, which had lower technical skills, capital strength and market scale than the U.S., adopted the production system of joint development and division labor between the nations of Europe. Each plant locations strengthened their specialization of the production branch in the past 40 years with a geographical accumulation of the specialized manufacturing facilities, suppliers, universities and laboratories by the logic of geographical proximity and learning effect. The cargo plane transportation system in the production of short- and medium-haul aircraft facilitated the geographical dispersion of manufacturing process and the logistical linkage among the various plant locations. But the production of long-haul large aircraft(A380) chosen the transportation system by the cargo ship because of the size and weight. Considering the transportation system by the cargo ship, the choice of Toulouse as a final assembly plant location was the irrational locational decision from a locational point of view. This locational choice is explained by the merging process of the European civil aviation industry, the logic of learning effect and geographical proximity, and the active attraction support policy.

  • Now, the Korean footwear industry needs the concrete enhancement of its competitive edge for regaining of its previous well known reputation. For this purpose, this study emphasizes the cooperation between the members through the supply chain of Korean footwear industry, as a c-SCM(Collaborative Supply Chain Management) by aid of information system. The key issue will be how well to coordinate operations flow not only through internal process stages, but also through entire external supply chain stages. In other words, the target goal must be the system optimization through the entire supply chain beyond the local optimization of internal supply chain process. We, at first, analyze the traditional structure of supply chain in Korean footwear industry and find out critical problems, and then, we develop the collaborative information framework in conjunction with several collaborative process modules. The suggested collaborative production & supply planning system was designed for sharing information and it is based on ebXML(electronic business eXtensible Markup Language) framework. In this way, the enhancement of the efficiency and competitiveness can be expected through the synergy effect of coordination of information and material flow, the reduction of lead times, and production costs.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the global value chain of the global automotive industry to investigate the success factors through the example of the value chain of Hyundai Motor. It looks at the value chain of the well-known Korean automaker, Hyundai Motor, to find success factors with cases. It examines the process to build the supply chain of Hyundai Motor to analyze what impact it has on the growth of Hyundai Motor to look closely at the vertical division of labor of vehicle parts manufacturers. Korea's automobile industry has been expanding cooperation between two sectors as a multifunctional promotion focusing on electronic communications technology in machinery and technology center. Through introducing the nation's first vertical integration in the sector, Hyundai Motor has secured competitiveness of cost reduction and prestige car production. Hyundai Motor has operated and established factories in the United States, India, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Russia, and Brazil. Hyundai Motor operates 51 affiliates, such as Hyundai Mobis, by restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and building their own vertical division of labor around it. Hyundai Motor has been overcoming dependence on foreign modules businesses and maintaining the supply value chain around Hyundai Mobis.

  • This study examines scale issues in the contemporary feminist migration literature. Scale appears as important, yet poorly understood concept in this field of study. The increasing attention to the feminization of migration requires not only gendered, but also scalar-sensitive approaches. Feminists criticize the conventional approach to the migration as a gender-blind approach that privileges national scale around which migration processes are organized. Claiming multiscalar and interscalar analyses, they propose investigations ranging from macro to micro processes which include globalized gendered division of labor, transnational family networks, and reproduction which takes place in and through the bodies and homes of migrant women. The migrant women, the major actors in recent transnational migration, cross various borders: the national boundaries and the public and private divides, in particular. This crossover can unsettle patriarchal gender relations which have been established based on the physical and symbolic division of nation-states and public/private spheres. Blurring these divisions accompanies social construction of various scales. The transnational family networks of migrant women, for example, show the construction of a transnational scale by migrant women as well as globalization from below. This paper points out misunderstandings of scale in the feminist migration literature and attempts to fill the gaps by introducing the meanings and implications of scales developed mostly by feminist geographers. In so doing, it promotes the interdisciplinary communication.

  • The two waves of EU enlargement in 2004 and 2007, have been milestones of European integration. While research has been conducted into the impact of these events on both the European and the global economies,1 there have been few attempts to assess the effects of EU enlargement and the introduction of the euro on countries such as Russia, which neighbour the EU but currently have no perspective of accession. This paper aims to provide an assessment of the effects that EU enlargement and the introduction of the euro have had on Russia, the largest country neighbouring the EU. In particular, it focuses on trade and investment links between the EU and Russia, as well as the use of the energy by Russian residents and authorities. Economic links between Russia and the EU are found to have strengthened considerably in the areas of trade, investment and other financial flows in recent years. Strong growth, particularly in Russia, as well as the high price of oil and gas, Russia's major export items, has facilitated this expansion of trade and finance. Moreover, available data do not suggest that EU enlargement has had a negative impact on Russia in terms of trade or investment diversion. Thus, the strategic partnership between Russia and the EU has been increasingly underpinned by an expansion of cross-border economic activities. Thus, the paper contributes to two broad strands of literature on this subject, namely the impact of regional trade and economic arrangements on non-member countries and the international role of currencies.

A Study on the personal protection system for North Korean refugees in South Korea (북한이탈주민 신변보호 체계에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of the present paper is to examine the North Korean refugee protection system and its shortcomings. Based on the findings from the analysis of legal system and status of personal protection, this paper proposes the following measures to solve the problems and improve South Korea's existing system. First of all, personal protection for North Korean refugees should be carried out in an inclusive and humanitarian manner. Secondly, the collaborative governance operating system for protecting North Korean refugees should be established. Lastly, clear guidelines for personal protection procedures should be developed to ensure personal protection officers'accountability.

  • As international trade has been increased, the competition of major ports is getting hard. The objective of this competition is that to get more cargoes, so port managements and operators are struggling to obtain cargoes. In addition the competition structure has classified several forms bemuse of specialization, integration and subdivision of port players. In this paper, therefore, we analyze the change of competition structure by port players' development characteristics. In the result of this study, competition structure is divided into five groups as among nations, among ports, among container terminal operation companies, among global container terminal operation companies and among container terminal operation companies operated by shipping companies. And they have showed not only competition but also co-operation partly in order to get strategic position.

노동력수요의 중장기 전망-지식기반경제로의 이행-

  • 세계화 추세의 가속, 급속한 기술진보 및 정보화의 확산 등은 국제간의 분업구조 뿐만 아니라 국내의 산업구조 및 취업구조를 급격히 변화시키고 있다. 국내 취업구조의 변화는 산업간 직업간 취업비중을 모두 변화시키고 있어 고용의 양적 측면은 물론이고 질적 측면에서도 큰 변화가 예상된다. 그러므로 중장기적인 노동력수요 예측은 향후 인력양성의 방향과 체계를 결정하는 데 중요한 지표가 될 뿐만 아니라 노동시장 정책에 있어서도 반드시 필요한 자료가 되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 향후 노동력에 대한 중장기 수요를 일반균형적인 접근을 통하여 산업별 직업별로 예측하고 이 예측결과에 따른 향후 노동시장 및 인력정책의 방향을 제시하는 데 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 연구들이 사용한 방법의 이론적 약점을 보완하면서 실증 결과의 예측성을 높일 수 있는 개선된 방법을 사용하였다. 산업별 취업자를 전망하는데 있어 기존 연구결과들은 주로 노동시장의 단일방정식만을 추정함으로써 생산요소의 수요가 비탄력적이지 않음에도 불구하고 생산요소간의 대체가능성을 무시하고 있으며, 인력수요에 중요한 결정 요인인 기술변화를 고려하지 못하고 있거나, 취업계수의 변화를 통해 기술진보의 효과를 고려한다고 하여도 기술진보가 생산요소간에 비중립적(factor non-neutral technology changes)으로 일어날 경우 요소간 대체가능성을 간과하고있다. 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위해 본 연구에서는 산업별 취업자 전망에서 노동시장의 단일방정식 추정이 아닌 일반균형에 입각한 경제 모형을 사용하였다. 또한 직종별 취업자 전망을 위해서는 일반적으로 이용되는 필요 인력량에 대한 고정계수(fixed coefficient manpower requirement)를 추정할 때 이중비례행렬모형(二重比例行列模型)을 이용하여, 산업구조의 변화로 인한 직업별 인력수요 변화가 충분히 고려되도록 하였다. 전망의 결과에 따르면 향후 우리 경제는 지식기반경제(knowledge-based economy)로 이행하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 우선 산업구조면에서 지식집약적산업으로의 구조조정이 일어나게 되고 이에 따라 산업별 취업구조에서도 고기술산업의 취업준비중이 급속히 증가하게 된다. 직업별 취업분포에 있어서도 전문기술직 행정관리직 등의 고숙련 사무직의 비중은 크게 증가하는 반면 생산관련직과 농림어업직의 비중은 감소하게 된다. 이처럼 경제가 지식집약화되어 감에 따라 고학력자에 대한 수요는 지속적으로 증가하지만 현재 적절한 인력양성과 공급이 이루어지지 않고 있어 향후 기술이나 기능에 따른 수급부일정(需給不一政)(skill mismatch)현상이 매우 심해질 것으로 보인다. 따라서 앞으로의 인력정책에서 가장 주안점을 두어야 할 부분은 첨단기술산업과 관련된 인력의 양성에 있다고 하겠다.

  • Asian container market, expecially in the NEA(Northeast Asia) region, has been growing continuously according to international specialization of manufacturers. The circumstances surrounding port industry has also been changing rapidly. Global liner and GTO( Global Terminal Operators} have strengthen there market share with M&A and increased entry to Asia market. The competition in NEA have deepen with change of circumstance and the growth of Chinese ports while Busan port decreasing its growth rate and market share. Therefore, this study analysed the change of the port concentration in NEA and the positioning of Busan port by year. In the result, the competitive position of Busan port weakening continuously and loss much volume to competition port, and it suggests that a globalization strategy is essential for making sure of competitiveness based on the result of this paper.

Study on the analysis of model of business process for textile industry of Korea (한국 섬유산업의 비즈니스 프로세스 모형 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Textile industry of Korea has been assumed advanced textile industry nation's aspects with production system and equipment. But has been descended in the sector of design, brand, recognition comparing with Italy, Japan, England. And products of middle and low price do not have competitiveness against China, South East Asia. The world's textile industry nation has been confronted with Free Trade, and Regional Trade Blocks. New market has been opened with free Trade, but Trade Blocks(NAFTA, EU, APEC etc.) which encourage regional member country's profit maximize made textile export driven nation to consider strategies to cope with. Advanced textile industry nation divided the work among themselves and composed linking system among them which highly valuable products are manufactured at advanced nation and low price products are manufactured by global outsourcing. The purpose of this study is to analyze impact of process which requires to secure international competitiveness into business performance experimentally.
