  • As we observed in Irag war, air force power is integral to military operations owing to its promptness and accuracy. In this regard, strong air force power has a deterrent effect on a war. Meanwhile, as aviation industry is a key-future industry, the importance of the industry in our economy is significantly growing. Therefore, to maximize a national interest in utilizing limited aviation resources, it is necessary to establish a new system in which civil aviation and military aviation system is closely related and consolidated. Thus, our task is to find a way to enhance civil aviation industry to the extent of guaranteeing effective military operations. At the same time, civil aviation resources shall be effectively utilized for the military purposes in the event of a war.   • These days, Uncooled IR Systems are more popular in the area of defense and aerospace than before. Uncooled IR Systems are widely used as core technology for making unmanned systems and detecting enemy objects during the day and night in the distance. Recently, researches on TEC-less IRFPA have been increased to minimize the power consumption and to make a smaller system than before. For this, it needs to find adequate NUC(Non-Uniformity Correction) coefficients as FPA(Focal Plane Array) temperature changes. In this paper, we propose a new NUC coefficient estimating technique, DCCE-LI(Dynamic Calibration Coefficients Estimation with Linear Interpolation), for TEC-less IRFPA. It is based on a linear interpolation method and it can estimate NUC coefficients in real-time. So, by testing and evaluating it with some IR images, we conclude that the quality of IR images using proposed method is better than applying static coefficients.

  • Delivering clear requirements of the military in the defense acquisition process is a key activity for successful weapon acquisition. In the field of defense, Operational Requirements Documents (ORDs) are prepared to derive and deliver the requirements of the military. In this study, we compare and analyze the form and content of the recent domestic ORD with reference to the US Department of Defense (DoD) ORD. As a result of the study, it is found that the domestic ORD form needs to be supplemented with in accordance with the purpose of the operation, while the requirement parameter, which is a core item of ORD, is insufficient. In order to address these issues, detailed contents of the ORD form suitable for the purpose of this study are presented. Also, we provide clear definitions, explanations, and examples of the operational system's key performance parameters and suggest ways to clearly communicate the requirements of the military.

  • This paper describes the design and analysis of a periscope imaging system installed at the engine test facility in the Agency for Defense Development. The periscope system is a cylinder-shaped image observation system installed at the rear of the engine and at the top of the diffuser. The periscope system has high risk of breaking because it is directly affected by high temperature (2300 K) and products of combustion. Thus, we used 1D heat transfer calculation, and 2D and 3D CFD analysis to confirm the heat flux and temperature distribution. Also, the cooling performance was verified. In the current design, using the periscope system, we can see flame shapes, control of the nozzle, and stability of the exhaust flow visually.

  • This study did a structural design of a fuel system of auxiliary fuel tank applied to aircraft then analyzed it. The safety of the structural design result was investigated. Aluminum alloy metal structure was applied to the fuel system structure. The structural analysis was conducted using commercial finite element software. The design requirement was maximum accelerate condition of the structure. Therefore, structural design was done considering the maximum accelerate condition.

A Study on the Efficient Compliance Method for Airworthiness Certification in the field of Flying Qualities of Military Aircraft (군용항공기 비행성 분야의 효율적인 감항인증 입증방법에 대한 고찰)

  • Airworthiness certification is critical, in ensuring the flight safety of military aircraft for development tests and production operations. The MIL-HDBK-516C, latest airworthiness certification document, handles the field of flying qualities in Chapter 6 (flight technology), and refers to specific chapters of MIL-STD-1797B, which is the specification document for developing military aircraft. Since the MIL-STD-1797B released in 2006 by the U.S. Department of Defense is not disclosed to other countries, the Chapter 6 (flight technology) of MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded, the former certification standards pursuant to flying qualities, has to be applied to military aircraft being developed in the Republic of Korea. However the requirements of Chapter 6 of MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded comprise unclear sentences, because of contents from various development specifications. Also, clarification is needed in that the same requirements have to be verified in different criteria. In this paper, the results of this study present an effective verification method, for acquiring the airworthiness certification in field of flying qualities based on MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded.
