Assessment of acoustic detection performance for a deployment of bi-static sonar (양상태 소나 배치를 위한 음향탐지성능 평가 방법)

  • This paper aims to evaluate the acoustic detection performance for the deployment of the source and receiver positions of a bi-static sonar. In contrast with a mono-static sonar, a bi-static sonar has a large amount of computation and complexity for deployment. Therefore, in this study, we propose an assessment method that reduces the amount of computation while considering the variability of the ocean environment as a method to apply to the placement of the source and receiver of a bi-static sonar. First, we assume the representative ocean environment in the shallow and deep water. The signal excess is calculated with the source to receiver ranges and sensor depths. And the result is compared with the proposed assessment method of acoustic detection performance.

A Study on the Flight Safety Analysis of Military Aircraft External Stores (군용 항공기 외장물의 비행 안전성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The external store fitted to the aircraft may affect the flight characteristics and flight safety of the aircraft, which requires the analyses and testing on it. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze types of failures that can affect the flight safety of aircraft due to the installation of external stores, and to check the flight safety of aircraft through dropping tests of the external stores. After identifying the types of failures that could affect the flight safety of the aircraft, the criticality was calculated to analyze the effect on the flight safety of the aircraft. Four types of failures were selected: unintentional dropping, failure of dropping, unintentional main wing deployment, and release of tail wing restraint of the external store, which are considered to affect the flight safety of the aircraft due to the operation of the external store. As a result of the aircraft's flight safety analysis on the failure types, the criticality requirements were met. Based on this, after obtaining the airworthiness certification, the drop test was successfully performed to confirm the flight safety of the aircraft by mounting an external store on the aircraft. However, in addition to the four hazards carried out in this study, the real external stores of the military aircraft may have various factors affecting the flight safety of the aircraft, so further research will be needed.

Structural Support of Aluminum Honeycomb on Cast PBX (알루미늄 허니컴(HC) 구조재 적용 주조형 복합화약)

  • As the operating condition for the penetrating missile has been more advanced, the survivability of main charge has been strongly required when the warhead impacts the target. Lots of efforts to desensitize explosives such as the development of insensitive molecular explosives or optimizing plastic-bonded explosives(PBX) systems has been made to enhance the survivability of main charge. However, these efforts face their limits as the weapon system require higher performance. Herein, we suggest a new strategy to secure the survivability of main charge. We applied structurally supportable aluminum honeycomb(HC) structure to cast PBX. The aluminum HC structure reinforces the mechanical strength of cast PBX and helps it to withstand external pressure without the reaction like detonation. In this study, impact resistance character, shock sensitivity and internal blast performance of PBXs reinforced with HC structure were investigated according to the application of aluminum HC structure. The newly suggested aluminum HC structure applied to cast PBX was proved to be a promising manufacturing method available for high-tech weapon systems.

  • This study reconstructed the military logistics improvement project currently being implemented by ROK military as a defense logistics strategy. In addition the factors affecting the performance of the defense logistics strategy are analyzed using PLS. The significance of this study is as follows. First, the defense logistics improvement project was structured as a defense logistics strategy according to function. Second, PLS is used for performance factor analysis. Most of the existing defense researches utilized the ML structural equation. However, this study used the PLS structural equation in view of the fact that each detail project is the formation of defense logistics strategy. Third, we identified projects that have a substantial impact on defense logistics performance and those that do not. We found that inventory, process, and information strategy influenced logistics performance among defense logistics strategies. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the facility/equipment strategy had no significant effect on defense logistics performance.

  • 국방분야에서 전력 운영유지를 위한 군수분야 운영 효율화는 매우 중요한 이슈이다. 군수분야의 효율성을 위해 적정한 수리부속 확보는 장비의 가동률과 예산 절감 차원에서 중요성이 크다. 이에 군은 다양한 기법을 활용하여 수리부속 수요예측에 대한 노력을 계속해 왔으나, 여전히 예측 정확도 향상을 위한 지속적인 노력이 요구된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 지난 9개년의 수리부속 수요데이터를 분석하고 다양한 머신러닝을 활용하여 예측정확도를 비교·분석하고, 가장 적합한 수리부속 수요예측 모델을 제안한다.

To advance and utilize AI in national defense, it is essential to have policy support at the governmental or national level. This includes establishing a research and development infrastructure, creating a common development environment, and fostering AI expertise through education and training programs. To achieve advancements in hyper-connected networks, it is essential to establish a foundation for a robust and resilient infrastructure by comprehensively building integrated satellite, aerial, and ground networks, along with developing 5G & edge computing and low-orbit satellite communication technologies. This multi-faceted approach will ensure the successful integration of AI and hyper-connected networks, strengthening national defense and positioning nations at the forefront of technological advancements in warfare.

Reinforcement Learning based on Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient for Roll Control of Underwater Vehicle (수중운동체의 롤 제어를 위한 Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient 기반 강화학습)

  • The existing underwater vehicle controller design is applied by linearizing the nonlinear dynamics model to a specific motion section. Since the linear controller has unstable control performance in a transient state, various studies have been conducted to overcome this problem. Recently, there have been studies to improve the control performance in the transient state by using reinforcement learning. Reinforcement learning can be largely divided into value-based reinforcement learning and policy-based reinforcement learning. In this paper, we propose the roll controller of underwater vehicle based on Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient(DDPG) that learns the control policy and can show stable control performance in various situations and environments. The performance of the proposed DDPG based roll controller was verified through simulation and compared with the existing PID and DQN with Normalized Advantage Functions based roll controllers.

  • The multi-channel video streaming system is an essential device for future ground combat vehicles. For the system, the application of digital interfaces is required instead of the direct analog method to support selectable multiple channels. However, due to the characteristics of the digital interfaces that require en/decoding and signal conversion, the system should support the ability to adapt to quality and delay requirements depending on how video data is utilized. To support addressed issue, this study designs and emulates the multi-channel compressed-video streaming system of ground combat vehicle's fire control system based on commercial standards. Using the system, this study analyzes the quality of video according to the rotational speed of the acquisition device and Glass-to-Glass (G2G) delay between video acquisition and display devices according to video compression rates. Through these experiments and analysis, this paper presents the design direction of the system having scalability on the latest technology while providing high-quality video data streaming flexibly.

A Study on the Experimental Trend Analysis of Underwater Noise Factors in Compressed Water System of the Linear Pump Type (선형펌프방식 압축수 시스템의 실험적 수중소음인자별 경향분석 연구)

  • In order to understand the underwater noise source factor of the linear pump type forced ejection system, a reduced-model compressed water experiment device was developed. The reduced-model compressed water experiment device consists of a reverberation tank, a linear pump type forced ejection device, and an underwater vehicle. The underwater noise source was selected from the hydraulic ram moving speed, the hydraulic ram/piston pipe spacing, the ejection pipe inlet/water ram area ratio, and the number of water ram inlets. The underwater vehicle was ejected into the reverberation tank by the device. The source level was derived from the measured sound pressure. The source level tends to increase as the hydraulic ram/piston tube spacing and the hydraulic ram moving speed increase. The source level tended to increase as the area ratio was increased, but the level was weak. The number of water ram inlet did not affect the source level.
