The purpose of this article is to evaluate the quality of digital libraries which Korean society has built with. To the end, first discussed is the operational definition of digital library, which has a variety of meanings and definitions. For the quality evaluation, 10 criteria were developed on the basis of both literature review and user survey. Followed was a thorough investigation to identify the present status of digital library construction. Then, we selected the most representative digital libraries in Korea, and conducted the quality verification on the basis of previously developed 10 criteria. The conclusion includes both major causes of low quality and some strategies for improving the low quality of digital libraries at the national level.

This study was to build a collaborative digital library model between KSTI and JST for sharing science and technology information created in Korea and Japan. For this study, digital library framework, it's main concepts and widely-used digital library technologies were investigated. And also, best practices of collaborative digital library were surveyed to characterize collaborative digital library trends. Collaborative Sci-Tech digital library model proposed in this study can be applied in real environment and expanded into other institutions and/or subject areas.

This article delves into community archives based on the archival project of Dongjak-gu Public Library on the search toward sustainability. Dongjak-gu has conducted a local archiving project that involves collecting local records, focusing on the role of local public institutions as representative districts in the local region after the library was established in September 2013. Thus far, we are managing the project and records that are piled at the public library, and as the placement for archiving local records conducted in a local public library does not match its role, the national/city/province system for archiving local records faces a challenge for long-term sustainability. Therefore, we would like to present an idea for sustainability by discussing our concerns and experiences in this paper.

This study focused on library services for patients and carers and conducted an awareness survey on the current status of library services for patients and carers in hospitals in Korea and on future library services for patients and carers. Through this, the ways to activate library services for patients and carers in the hospital were sought. Based on the results of the study, the research team proposes the following measures: First, the legislation for the mandatory establishment of libraries in hospitals and standards for the size, book collection, and manpower of libraries in hospitals should be enacted. Second, cooperation between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare is essential to lay the foundation for the mandatory and voluntary establishment of hospital libraries at the national level in the future. Third, the operation of regional representative libraries, public libraries, and other institutions should be considered.

This study aimed to analyze the overall operation status of the Bank of Korea library representing the economic library in Korea, investigate user satisfaction and demand, and to propose a direction for the development of the economic library in the future. To this end, a case study was conducted on changes in the external environment of major libraries at home and abroad, and a user survey was conducted. As a result, the future tasks include introducing smart systems, robotics some library services, non-face-to-face service response spaces that reflect the times, introducing big data analysis services, strengthening user-tailored systems, and activating SNS communication. It proposed developing specialized libraries, online reference and research support services, and providing original DBs for publications to strengthen expertise, maintaining and expanding cloud services, maintaining and expanding cooperative projects, and collecting national knowledge and information.

The world has rapidly become culturally diverse, and Korea has gradually grown into a multicultural society, mainly due to marriage immigrants and foreign laborers, whose number exceeds over one million nationally. Their adjustment and acculturation in Korea, however, dose'nt seem painless and untroubled, and public libraries are in duty to provide multicultural service for these population. Providing useful services on the homepage makes it possible for users to find the information they need without having to visit the actual library. A more detailed research will be conducted by examining the multicultural services provided by the public libraries in Australia, Canada, the United States, and Japan, the leading multicultural societies. The further examination will be conducted on these libraries in terms of four aspects, that is, information, literacy, education, and culture, as declared by Public Library Menifesto. In Korea, translation and interpretation services, homework help, child literacy are necessary services at the public library, Management of independent multicultural site, shared services between Regional Central Library and Community Public Library, cooperation with libraries, government and organization will be helpful to multicultural library services.

The National Museum of Korea is a nation's representative museum library that provides collection development, organizes, and utilize museum collections. Considering the limited budget, staffing, and users' awareness of the museum libraries in general, the role of the National Museum of Korea is vital. The purpose of this study is to establish the identity and development plan of the National Museum of Korea library as a specialized library. For this purpose, the current states of the National Museum of Korea library, preliminary studies, domestic and overseas case studies, and user & expert interviews were conducted. As a result of the study, the study suggested future directions to secure the professional identity of library, and development plans for collection, service, and human resources by museum library, and also to increase the role of library in museum and to improve users' awareness.

The Chinese Library Classification(CLC) is the most widely used national standard classification system in China. Since the first edition of CLC in 1975, the 5th edition of CLC was published in 2010. It was the result of an average of 9 years of revision for each edition. This study investigated CLC focusing on the formational background and developmental process of CLC, and characteristics and revision details of CLC's 5th edition. Because Korea has been close cultural relationship with China for a long time, this study will provide implications on Korean Decimal Classification(KDC) development.

This study analyzes institutional characteristics and activities of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council. In particular, the study provides cultural heritage institutions with policy strategies for social inclusion. Futhermore, it discusses how the establishment of a nation-level cultural collaborative body impacts on an archival areas in depth. The case study of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council is expected to be an important reference for building a cooperative cultural heritage institution model in South Korea.
