Studies on the N , $P_2O_5$ and $K_2O$-Application in the Mixed Sward of Alfalfa-Grass I. Effect of nitrogen fertilization on dry mixed sward of alfalfa-grasses (Alfalfa-Grass 혼파초지에 대한 3요소 시비 연구 I. 질소질비료의 시용수준이 alfalfa-grass 혼파초지의 건물 및 양분수량에 미치는 영향)

  • To investigate the effects of nitrogen(N) fertilization levels on the dry matter(DM) yield, nutrition yield, and N efficiency of forages in mixed sward of alfalfa-grasses, a field experiment arranged by randomized complete block design with five treatments(0, 70, 140, 210 and 280kg N/ha) was conducted at Livestock Experiment Station in Suwon, September, 1990 to February, 1993. During two years, average DM yields of forage increased as N fertilization level was increased, but no significant difference was found between DM 10,266kg of N 210kgha and DM 10,845kg of N 280kgha. Crude protein and energy productivity of forages increased as N fertilization level was increased, and the increasing degree was highest between N 140kg and 210kg/ha fertilization. With increasing N fertilization, mineral contents tended to decrease in P and K/Ca+ Mg equivalent ratios, to increase in Mg, but not to be regular in the other elements. Efficiency of N was highest at N 210kg/ha fertilization, which produced DM 21.6kg, net energy lactation 129.3 MJ, starch equivalent 12.3kStE and total digestible nutrients 14.5kg per Ikg N.

Growth and Tkber Development of 'Black Magic' Calla Lily as Affected by the Rain Shelter and Tuber Size (유색칼라 생육 및 구근 비대에 미치는 비가림 재배와 구근 크기의 효과)

  • Growth and tuber development of ‘Black Magic’calla lily as affected by the rain shelter with 50% shading and the tuber size were investigated. Tubers of five grades in size were cultivated in the rain shelter or in the open field (control). Days to emergence of shoots in the rain shelter was accelerated by 4.2 days as compared to the open field. Emergence ratio was higher as the tuber was larger, tubers grown in the rain shelter showed the significance in the growth characteristics as compared to the control. There were no significant differences in the number of flowers per tuber between the rain shelter and the open field. Flower quality was 12.2 cm longer than that in the open field. flowering characteristics was improved with the increasing tuber size. Low infection of soft rot disease of 3∼22% was found in the rain shelter as compared to the that of 19∼83% in the open field. Thus tubers produced under the rain shelter showed improved quality, Even if the small tubers with diameters of 0.5∼1.0 cm were cultivated in the rain shelter, the weight and diameters of tuber harvested after approximately 7 months were 50.2 g and 5.7 cm, respectively.

Extending shelf-life of Oriental Melon(Cucumis melo L.) by Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MA 포장기법에 의한 참외의 신선도 유지)

  • Modified atmosphere packaging was applied to oriental melon(Cucumis melo L. var. makuwa Mak.) to extend its freshness during distribution. Gas composition and ethylene content in the film bags changed rapidly at the early stage of storage. Within 10 days, weight loss of the unpackaged increased upto 7.68% while those of the packaged remained less than 1.0% except LDPE film modified by addition of 5%(w/w) zeolite with $20\;{\mu}m$ thickness(20CK, 2.38%). Firmness was effectively maintained in the LDPE film modified by addition of 5%(w/w) zeolite with $40\;{\mu}m$ thickness(40CK) and the LDPE film with $40\;{\mu}m$ thickness containing ethylene absorber sachet(40LP). Peel color of the fruit changed rapidly in control and a little in 40CK. Oriental melon packages using 40CK provided better visual and sensory quality retention compared with others. Results suggested that packaging treatment such as 40CK could be used for extending freshness of oriental melon during transport period at ambient temperature.

On the Changes in Organic Acids of Strawberry in Air with Different $CO_2$ Concentration (공기중에 혼합된 탄산가스 농도에 따른 저장딸기의 유기산 변화에 관하여)

  • Changes in pH, titratable acidity, some organic acids and brix of the strawberry stored at the different levels of $CO_2$, in air were measured. The changing trends in pH and the acidity of the strawberries were not clear among the storage treatments, and pH of the strawberries in all the treatments was increased(r=0.9615) by contrast to decrease in the acidity(r=-0.8483). Ascorbic acid content of the strawberries at control lot was higher than the contents of the CA stored for the initial 2 weeks after storage. This trend was reversed after that period and the strawberries in air with 30% $CO_2$, showed the highest retention rate, 28% of the initial content after 5 weeks. Among the analyzed organic acids, malic acid was gradually decreased in all the treatments during storage and the decreasing rates of the strawberries in air with 30% $CO_2$, was somewhat stupider than those in the others. Pyruvic acid was reduced in the control lot during storage but drastically increased in the strawberries stored at the CA storage conditions between the 2nd and the 3rd week after storage, and then it was decreased.

Effects of Ventilation Condition and Ventilating Hole Sizes to Improve Quality Onion(Allium cepu. L) under Room Temperature (양파 간이저장시 통풍조건 및 통풍구 재료의 크기가 저장에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to improve the storability of onion bulbs by assembly simple house storage and the reduce the rotteness caused by field open storage. Allium cepa cv. Changnyungdeago, late strain was used for the test at the storage condition of natural ventilation of levels 2, forced ventilation of levels 2, field open storage and 75mm, 100mm, and 125mm ventilating holes. Mean tamperature and relative humidity were not significantly different by ventilation conditions. Mean temperature was lower in forced ventilation than that of in natural ventilation and non-ventilation, and relative humidity was a little higher in ventilation treatment than those of the others. Weight loss of onion bulbs were 2.5%, 2.9%, 3%, 4.3% in field open storage, non ventilation, natural ventilation of levels 2 and forced ventilation of levels 2 respectively. Rotting rate in natural ventilation of levels 2 and farced ventilation of levels 2 were 27.7% and 25.4% respectively but 34.6% and 37.8% in non ventilation and field open storage. Therefore, the treatment of ventilation reduced the rotteness of storage onion bulbs. The smaller the size of a ventilating hole, the lower mean temperature was maintained. The relative humidity was some high in July, but didn’t showed significantly difference in August and September. With small size of a ventilating hole, the strong wind velocity was obtained, and wind velocity by position was weaker in the middle part than both ends. Rutting rates in 75㎜, 100㎜, and 125㎜ ventilating holes were 17.9%, 15.3% and 14.1% respectively.

Effects of Dietary Leftover Food and Green Tea By-product on Productivity and Composition of Eggs in Laying Hens (남은 음식물과 녹차 부산물의 산란계의 생산성 및 난 성분에 미치는 영향)

  • 시험은 대조구 0%와 남은 음식물에 Protein의 요구량 수준을 각각 높인 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 대조구에 녹차 부산물(GTB) 첨가구 1.0%, 남은 음식물 30% + 녹차 부산물 (GTB) 1.0%로 총 7처리 4반복으로 하였으며, 반복당 6수씩 개체별로 사양 실험을 실시하고, 산란율, 난중, 난각두께, 난황색, Thiobarbituric acid (TBA) 및 관능검사 등을 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 산란율은 남은 음식물 10%, 20% 및 40% 첨가구에서 각각 82.65%, 81.54% 및 82.27%로 높게 나타났으나 남은 음식물 30%첨가구는 75.34%로 낮게 나타났으며 통계적 유의차를 보였다 (P<0.05). 대조구가 72.87%가 가장 낮게 나타났으며 (P<0.05), 주령별로는 주령이 증가할수록 산란율이 다소 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 2. 난중은 전 처리구중 가장 높은 경향을 보인 것은 남은 음식물 30% + GTB 1%처리구가 63.78로 높은 경향을 보였다. 가장 낮은 난중은 남은 음식물 10%처리구가 60.02로 나타났다 (P<0.05). 3. 산란량은 전 처리구에서 남은 음식물 30% + GTB 1%가 52.53g으로 높게 나타났고, 가장 낮은 산란량을 보인 것은 대조구가 45.32g으로 가장 낮게 나타났으며 통계적 유의차를 보였다 (P<0.05). 4. 사료 요구율은 남은 음식물 20%첨가구가 2.86으로 높게 나타났으며, 낮은 요구율은 남은 음식물 10%첨가구가 2.47으로 낮게 나타났으며 통계적 유의차를 보였다 (P<0.05). 전 처리구간에서 사료 요구율은 주령이 증가할수록 요구율이 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 5. 콜레스테롤은 대조구 + GTB 1.0%첨가구가 13.923으로 높게 나타났다. 가장 낮은 콜레스테롤은 남은 음식물 40%처리구가 12.003으로 낮게 나타났다. 남은 음식물을 첨가한 처리구가 난황 내 콜레스테롤 함량이 낮아지는 경향을 보였으나 남은 음식물 30%첨가구가 12.835로 높은 수치를 보였으며 통계적 유의차는 나타나지 않았다 (P>0.05). 6. TBA가 가장 높은 처리구간은 1주에는 남은 음식물 40%첨가구가 3.205로 높게 나타났으며 2주에는 남은 음식물30%첨가구가 3.275로 높게 나타났다. 마지막 주에는 3.947로 높게 나타났다. 이 결과로 볼 때 남은 음식물을 첨가한 처리구가 대체적으로 산패도가 높게 나타나는 경향을 보였으며 통계적 유의차는 나타나지 않았다 (P>0.05).

Quality Characteristics in Mash of Takju Prepared by Using Different Nuruk during Fermentation (누룩 종류를 달리하여 담금한 탁주 발효과정중 술덧의 품질특성)

  • The characteristics of mash qualities of takju prepared by using different nuruk (Korean-style bran koji) such as Mucor racemosus nuruk, Rhizopus japonicus nuruk, Aspergillus oryzae nuruk, Aspergillus kawachii nuruk and traditional nuruk were investigated during fermentation. At the begining of fermentation, ethanol content was in the range of $2.0{\sim}3.0%$. However, it increased to $8.2{\sim}12.6%$ after 16 days of fermentation. Takju made from Rhizopus japonicus nuruk showed higher ethanol content than treated otherwise. pH of takju made from Rhizopus japonicus nuruk showed higher value the others. Total acids were $0.15{\sim}0.20%$ at the begining of fermentation, and it increased to $0.086{\sim}1.57%$ after 16 days of fermentation. Total sugar were $16.64{\sim}17.62%$ at the begining of fermentation, but decreased to below 7.00% after 16 days of fermentation. Rhizopus japonicus nuruk showed the lowest level of total sugar content. Except ethanol, iso-amyl alcohol and iso-butyl alcohol were major part of minor alcohol in the mash of takju. Higher concentration of iso-amyl alcohol, iso-butyl alcohol and n-propyl alcohol were found in the mash of Rhizopus japonicus nuruk whereas the level of phenylethyl alcohol was high in the mash of traditional nuruk. Fusel oil was $0.002{\sim}0.411\;mg/mL$ during fermentation.

Effect of Defective Onion Extract on the Onion Productivity by Organic Farming (양파 파치 추출물이 유기농 양파성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study evaluated the close crop recycling method by using the extract from defective onions. The mixture of the diluted extract (1/500) and nutrients was applied seven times on the onion leaves without spilling it onto the field. The yield and quality of the onions produced by this method (recycle) were compared to those grown organically (control) and conventionally (normal). The yield from the recycling field was increased significantly by 9% compared to that of the control field, while it was decreased by 11% compared to the normal field (p < 0.05). This lower yield was explained by the differences of the mulching vinyl and the fertilizers between the treatments which effect the onion growth during the winter. The content of quercetin in the onions from the recycling filed was increased significantly by 34% and 44% compared to those of the control and normal field, respectively (p < 0.05). It seemed that minerals and biologically active substances in the defective onion extract were effective in increasing the onion growth. In terms of soil microbial biomass, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi was increased significantly in the recycle field by 40.1% and 30.6% compared to those of the control and normal fields, respectively (p < 0.05). On the other hand, microbial stress (cy19:0/18:1w7c) was decreased in the recycle field by 21.0% and 14.1% compared to those of the control and normal fields, respectively.

The Effect of Media Application in Aeration Tank for Aerobic Treatment of Swine Slurry (돈분뇨슬러리 폭기시 담체 설치효과)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the removal effects of nutritive salts and organic pollutants in experimental aeration reactor for treatment of piggery slurry. In this study, three types of reactors were manufactured and operated. The fibrous media was equipped in one of three reactors. Another reactor was equipped with the siliceous media and the other reactor used as a control was equipped with typical aeration system only. Treatment efficacy of three types of reactors were evaluated according to the pollutants removal rate of the piggery slurry. The results obtained in this study are as follows : 1) In the reactor containing fibrous media, the removal efficiency of BOD, T-N and T-P was 11%, 13.9% and 21.2%, respectively. 2) In the reactor containing siliceous media, the removal efficiency of BOD, T-N and T-P was 6.9%, 25.3% and 47.8%, respectively. 3) In the reactor not containing media, the removal efficiency of BOD. T-N and T-P was 6.1%, 8.1.% and 23.6%, respectively. 4) Sludge accumulation in the reactor equipped with filamentous media was lower than that of other experimental reactors.

Effect of Feed Type on Feed Efficiency and Carcass Characteristics of Hanwoo Steers (사료의 형태가 한우 거세우의 사료효율 및 도체성적에 미치는 영향)

  • Ninety five Hanwoo steers averaging 226kg of body weight were used to investigate the effect of dietary type on feed efficiency, carcass characteristics and economical analysis in Hanwoo feeding over 22 months. Treatments were composed of commercial formula feed (formula feed), TMR and Fermented-TMR (F-TMR). Intakes of dry matter and TDN were greater in the F-TMR than the other treatments during each growing and fattening phase (p<0.05). Although daily body gain of the F-TMR was lowest during the growing phase, but was 48% greater than those of other treatment during the finishing phase (p<0.05). Feed efficiency of the F-TMR was maintained constantly during whole growing and fattening phases. Carcass weight and rib-eye area of the F-TMR were greatest (p<0.05) among treatments. However, meat yield index and the rate of grade A in meat yield were highest in the formula feed having the thinnest back fat. Marbling score was hugely (p<0.05) increased when steers fed F-TMR, and therateofgrade 1+andoverinmeatqualitywas96%intheF-TMR. Although feed cost in the F-TMR was increased by 40% compare to the formula feed, but net income was increased by 29% due to improvement of meat quality and body gain.
