  • In evaluating lateral behavior on the seismic and wind load, the purpose of sensitivity analysis is to find critical variables and to identify characteristic response with variability of variables. The sensitivity analysis is very important in structural diagnosis, repair and reinforcement field. This study investigates the sensitivity by linear static analysis applying the TDA method in changing angles of diagrid braces on the same height structures. In case of mid rise model, under the seismic load, the brace member is determined as a major variable at $58^{\circ}$ but a high rise model, under the wind load, has the brace member as a major variable at $67.4^{\circ}$. In addition, location of critical sensitivity on the mid rise model is distributed over middle section, while it is distributed lower section on the high rise model.

  • This paper investigate the structure instability properties of the shelled space frame structure. The large structure must have thin thickness for build the large space structure there fore structure instability review is important when we do structural design. The structure instability of the shelled structure accept it sensitively by varied conditions. This come to a nonlinear problem with be concomitant large deformation. In this study, it is compared unstable behavior according to lode and boundary condition of the shelled space frame structure through numerical method which considered geometrical nonlinear and grasped influence for the instability phenomenon and investigated the fundamental collapse mechanism.

  • Reflecting the fact that there are increasing number of old high-story apartment structures in urban area, it is expected that the demand of blasting demolition will increase in the near future. It is of great important to make up for the insufficient empirical knowledge in blasting demolition through priori method such as computer simulation. Computer simulation of the blasting demolition involves complicated process. In the past domestic researches, two-dimensional bonded particle model was used to examine the overall demolition behavior of a five-story simple structure. It was observed that the two-dimensional simulation did not properly simulate the collapsing behavior of a structure mainly due to the reduced degree of freedom. In this study, three-dimensional simulation was tried. It consumed a great amount of calculation time, which limited the extent of the study. A few parameters, such as delay times, amount of charge at each hole, ball properties, were modified in order to check oui; their effect on the collapsing behavior. The differences were observed as expected but the collapsing behavior did not exactly coincide with the test blasting with a scaled model.

  • In this study, nonlinear earthquake responses of a soil-structure interaction(SSI) system which is subjected to a three-directional ground motion are examined. The structure and the near-field region of soil, where the geometry is irregular, the material properties are heterogeneous, and nonlinear dynamic responses are expected, are modeled by nonlinear finite elements. On the other hand, the infinite far-field region of soil, which has a regular geometry and homogeneous material properties and dynamic responses is assumed linearly elastic, is represented by three-dimensional perfectly matched discrete layers which can radiate elastic waves into infinity efficiently. Nonlinear earthquake responses of the system subjected to a three-directional ground motion are calculated with the numerical model. It is observed that the dynamic responses of a SSI system to a three-directional motion have a predominant direction according to the characteristics of the ground motion. The responses must be evaluated using precise analysis methods which can consider nonlinear behaviors of the system accurately. The the method employed in this study can be applied easily to boundary nonlinear problems as well as material nonlinear problems.

  • The Very Large Marine Structure has been widely used new method of ocean space instead of method for reclamation Therefore, VLFS is proposed to coincide on such request. It can be established regardless of nature of soil and height of water, and stream of flow exists under the floating structure, there is seldom effect in natural environment. Fuertherrnore, it can do easily to do assembly and taking to pieces due to expansion or removal. Based on the regulation by class, VLFS have to possess more than enough structural strength against severe wave loading induced by green sea condition Therefore, There are performed structural simulation as well as experimental test about expected loading scenario in order to examine the safety of structure. Up to now, various examinations based on the strength limit value of the main structural material have been done based on the elasticity response analysis. However, there is little finding about the collapse behavior and the safety when the load that exceeds the collapse of the material acts. In the present study, we investigated the collapse behavior based on the ultimate limit state calculated by FE-analysis.

  • The dynamicresponse of biomimetic composites mimicking nacre under low velocity impact is investigated. The composites have hierarchical structures with a staggered pattern consisting of a protein and a mineral. To analyze the impact response of the composites, the finite element method is used. The effects of the hierarchical structures of the compositeson the dynamic response are examined. It is shown that the maximum stress, displacement and contact force in the composite subjected to low velocity impact decrease as the level of structural hierarchy increases.

  • A remarkable discrepancy of lateral deformation of shear wall structures for seismic loads due to a rigid diaphragm assumption without floor slab modelling asks a study how much effective the slab stiffness ratio is to the lateral behaviour. Typical shear wall type 15 stories structure is selected to analysis using MIDAS-ADS2008 commercial softwares modelling three types; 1) rigid diaphragm (RD model) 2) considered out-of plane slab flexural stiffness (DB model), and 3) considered in and out of plane slab flexural stiffness (SRC model). Based on National Code of KBC2005, the Equivalent Static and Response Spectrum seismic analysis are undertaken to compare each responses of the three models. The differences of lateral responses due to the three slab stiffness ratios applied on the models are compared and discussed.
