The aim of this paper was to develop a scale for measuring gender identity among sports participants (114 male, 193 female). Gender similarities and latent mean analysis was used to validate the gender identity measurement method. Data processing was carried out by way of frequency analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, reliability, correlation, normal distribution of questions, and latent mean analysis using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The results of this study were as follows: First, the equivalence had revealed the configurable, metric, and scalar invariance of the scale that can be used in multi-groups in the same way. Second, women had a more open inclination than men when it came to participating in sports activities (p<.001). Third, women participating in sports activities tended to be more conservative than men (p<.001). Fourth, women who participated in sports activities showed a higher subjective tendency than men (p<.001). Fifth, there was no statistical difference in the outward tendency when participating in sports activities (p<.05). The results of this study suggest that gender identity among sports participants is not influenced by the changing times and the advancement of women in society.

The purpose of this study was to validate the Korean version of Inventory of Parent Attachment(K-IPA), The first version of K-IPA was developed through the process of translation and tack translation of items of parent attachment from Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (Armsden & Greenberg, 1986), content validation test with 30 elementary school children, and content validation test with an expert group. The validation test with 964 students (emementary, middle, high school) confirmed all 25 items(each items were asked for mother and father) were appropriate and reliable, K-IPA consists of three different sub-scales, 10 items for trust scale, 9 items for communication scale, and 6 items isolation across all age groups.

Academic engagement has been known as a strong predictor of students' cognitive and affective outcomes in an educational context. Despite increasing interest and theoretical usefulness of this construct, a few researchers seem to be interested in the validation of instruments to measure academic engagement for Korean students. Thus, this study would like to introduce one of academic scales widely used, UWES-S(Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Student) (Schaufeli et al., 2002a: 2002b) and to validate the UWES-S for Korean college students. To validate the Korean version of the UWES-S, 651 college students (285 for Field Trial, 366 for Main Study) were used. The procedure is as follows. First, we used an integrated adaptation procedure to produce a Korean version of the UWES-S. Second, EFA(exploratory factor analyses) was applied to explore the factor structure of the UWES-S on the field trial data. Third, the psychometric properties of the UWES-S items were examined by graded response model(GRM). Also CFA(confirmatory factor analysis) was used to examine its internal construct validity for the data from the main study. Finally, the external validity of the UWES-S was scrutinized with the related variables such as academic motivation and satisfaction. As a result, the Korean version of the UWES-S with 13 items was accepted that the four items were excluded from its original version. Second, the internal validity was supported that the 3 factor CFA model(vigor, dedication, absorption) fit the data well. Third, we supported the partial mediation model that academic engagement played as a mediating variable between academic motivation(internal/external) and academic satisfaction. Finally, the differences between a validation of UWES-S for Korean college and high school students, the necessity of construct equivalence testing, and direction for future research of scale validating were discussed.

Collagen synthesis is decreased and matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) levels are increased in naturally aged human skin, and these alterations cause changes such as skin wrinkling and decreased elasticity. As a part of our ongoing search for bioactive ingredients, MMP-1 inhibitory and type-1 procollagen synthesis inducing activities of aqueous methanolic extract of manufactured gambir product from Uncaria gambir were investigated in in vitro bioassay systems. In addition, total phenolic contents were quantified using a spectrophotometric method. Among tested samples, 40% MeOH eluate from 80% methanolic extract of manufactured U. gambir using open column chromatography packed with Diaion HP-20 resin showed significant MMP-1 inhibitory activities with an $IC_{50}$ value of $15.6{\pm}1.3{\mu}g/mL$. Furthermore, type-1 procollagen synthesis promoting property of 40% MeOH eluate ($IC_{50}$ value; $6.9{\pm}0.7{\mu}g/mL$) from 80% methanolic extract of manufactured gambir was higher than other eluates. Additionally, the present investigation revealed that 40% MeOH eluate of manufactured gambir product contained a high level of total phenolic compounds. The result suggests a distinct relationship between anti-wrinkle activity and total phenolic contents, and manufactured gambir product could be considered a new effective source of natural bioactive ingredients. Systematic investigation of manufactured gambir product will be performed for further development of its biological properties.
