  • Along with an asynchronous finite state machine, in short AFSM, a signal transition graph, in short STG, is one of the most widely used behavioral description languages for asynchronous controllers. Unfortunately, STGs are not user-friendly, and thus it is very unwieldy and time consuming for system designers to conceive and describe manually the behaviors of a number of asynchronous controllers which constitute an asynchronous control unit for a target system in the form of STGs. In this paper, we suggest an automatic STG derivation method through a process-oriented method. Since the suggested method considers special properties of STG-based asynchronous logic synthesis very carefully, asynchronous controllers which are synthesized from STGs derived through the suggested method are superior in aspects of area, synthesis time, performance and implementability compared to those obtained through previous methods.

  • This paper presents a scheduling approach for synthesizing pipelined datapaths under resource constraints. Our approach builds up a schedule based on gradual mobility reduction in contrast to other algorithms of previous researches, where an operation being scheduled is selected by using a priority function. The proposed method consists of a scheduling algorithm and a decision algorithm for detecting any violation against resource constraints. Our approach evaluates whether or not a scheduling solution can exist in case an operation temporarily is assigned to the earliest or latest control step among the assignable steps for the operation. If a solution cannot be found, it is impossible to assign the operation to that step due to a violation against resource constraints, and so we can eliminate that control step. This process is iterated until a reduction of mobility for all operations can not be obtained. Experiments on benchmarks show that this approach gains a considerable improvement over those by previous approaches.

  • Client-server DBMS based on a data-shipping model can exploit e1ient resources effectively by allowing inter-transaction caching. However, inter-transaction caching raises the need of transactional cache consistency maintenancetTCCM protocol. since each client is able to cache a portion of the database dynamically. Deferred locking(DL) is a new detection-based TCCM scheme designed on the basis of a primary copy locking algorithm. In DL, a number of lock ,ujuests and a data shipping request are combined into a single message packet to minimize the communication overhead required for consistency checking. Lsing a simulation model. the performance of the prolxlsed scheme is compared with those of two representative detection based schemes, the adaptive optimistic concurrency control and the caching two-phase locking. The performance results indicate that DL improves the overall system throughput with a reasonable transaction abort ratio over other detection - based schemes.

  • The concept of cultural landscape, which is defined in the World Heritage Convention, provides a new framework with which to manage the heritage sites. European Landscape Convention proposes that landscape is the basic component of natural and cultural heritage, which in turn contributes to the improvement of human well-being and consolidation of the European identity. While recognizing the international trend, Japan has strived to improve the level of managing and protecting the landscape and cultural landscape through the enactment of Landscape Law and the revision of Cultural Property Protection Law. Now that landscape and cultural landscape has occupied the core of heritage management in the advanced countries, it is required more than ever that the concept of landscape and cultural landscape should be clarified through the legislation and convention in Korea. If the legislation for protecting and managing the landscape and cultural landscape is prerequisite for Korea to be an advanced country, a careful and in-depth examination, along with the consideration of the Korean circumstances, should be further carried out on the international experiences about the legislation from the comparative perspective.

  • This study aims to understand the relationship between self-management and health promoting lifestyle in college students participating in sports activities and to seek a measure to enhance their health promoting lifestyle. In order to analyze the impact of self-management and health promoting lifestyle in the college students participating in sports activities, correlation analysis and regression analysis methods were used. The findings obtained through the research results are summarized as follows: First, it turned out that, in order to promote college students' health promoting lifestyle, it would be important to develop a customized activity program considering the difference in the level of the participants' health information at the time when the sports activity program is organized. Second, it turned out that it would be important to provide empirical basic activity data that could maximize the cooperative action and synergy effect between the self-management and health promoting lifestyle of college students participating in sports activities.

  • The PCS system, which consists of precast concrete column and steel beam, is a kind of composite structural systems. In this paper, experimental study has been conducted to analyze seismic performance of bolted beam-to-column connections for the PCS system. Based on experimental results from the seismic testing of eight interior PCS specimens, it shows that behavior of PCS system is satisfactory to seismic performance criteria of ACI such as strength deterioration, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation capacity except initial stiffness. All of the specimens maintain their strength at large levels of story drift without significant loss of stiffness and show high ductility level for inelastic behavior. The energy dissipation capacity is two times greater than requirement of ACI criterion. But the initial stiffness of all specimens does not satisfy ACI criterion, and this phenomenon is similar to the other composite structural systems such as RCS, CFT system.

  • This paper studies the activities characteristics of the elderly aged 60-75 years old who can take care of themselves in the community public space, and puts forward the design principles of the community public space in the aging society. Using the methodology of experience design, through naturalistic observation, questionnaires, interviews and shadowing, the spatial and temporal characteristics of daily activities of the elderly are analyzed. In the community public space, the behavior of the elderly is essentially a social activity to get more attention and communication. This determines the needs, time, frequency and duration of activities of the elderly in community public space. In the community public space, the behavior of the elderly has the characteristics of long-term and regularity, and its behavior changes slightly with the space, the objective factors that affect the elderly are gender, age and climate. The subjective factors are lifestyle, family members and income level.

  • This paper proposes the architecture and design of intra prediction circuit for a multi-decoder supporting UHD images. The proposed circuit supports not only the latest video compression standard HEVC but also H.264. In addition to the basic function of performing intra prediction, this circuit has the capability of performing the reference sample filter operation defined in the H.264 standard, and the smoothing and strong sample filter operations defined in the HEVC standard. We reduced the circuit size by sharing the circuit blocks for common operations and internal storage, and improved the circuit performance by parallel processing. The proposed circuit was described at RTL using Verilog HDL and its functionality was verified by using NC-Verilog of Cadence. The RTL circuit was synthesized by using Design Compiler of Synopsys and 130nm standard cell library. The synthesized gate-level circuit consists of 69,694 gates and processes 100 ~ 280 frames per second for 4K-UHD HEVC images at the maximum operation frequency of 157MHz.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of Problem-Based Learning on Student's Creativity Ability in Middle School Science Class. The experimental group had Problem-Based Learning classes for six weeks and control group had traditional inquiry instruction for the same period. The results of this study presents that Problem-Based Learning is significantly effective for the improvement of creative skills test and creative tendencies. And PBL group student's had positive thinking for PBL. It's not easy to generalize these results because of many different variables. but the results suggests that teachers should make an effort to improve student's creativity applying Problem-Based Learning. And it's necessary to develop many kinds of problems and teacher's instruction method to enrich creativity in the process of Problem-Based Learning.

  • This study examined students' achievement of Earth science in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) that was conducted with 46 participating countries in 2003 and analyzed average percent-correct items for Earth science were analyzed in terms of subcategory, item type and cognitive domain. In addition, items showing a gender difference and a big difference in the test scores of Korean and international students were analyzed. Korean students performed higher than the international average, especially in the astronomy-related topic and in the cognitive domain of 'reasoning and analysis'. In an analysis of the five items that Korean students scored lower than the international average, Korean students performed not so well in demonstrating what they understood with drawings and writings. Korean female students showed a difficulty more than male students did in multiple-choice items that asked recalling of factual knowledge and demonstrated lack of confidence in the items that they have not learned yet. Based on the result content organization of Earth science curriculum and ways to improve teaching and loaming methods were recommended.
