$Cu_2O$ nano cubes with high catalase activity were synthesized by reduction of freshly prepared Cu in distilled water at $40^{\circC}$ and their catalase activities of $H_2O_2$ were studied. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation showed that most of these nanocubes were uniform in size, with the average edge length of 30 nm. Selected area electron diffraction of TEM revealed that the nanocube consisted of single crystalline $Cu_2O$, but it changed to CuO phase. The catalase activity depends on the amount of both cuprite phase and surface area.
The copper oxide nano powders were synthesized by levitational gas condensation(LGC) method, and their high heterogeneous catalytic effects of oxidation of 2,3,5-trimethyl-1,4- hydroquinone (TMHQ) and catalase activity were studied. The observation of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) shows that most of these nano powders are uniform in size, with the average particle size of 35 nm. The nano powder consists of mainly $Cu_2O$, but it is aged to CuO phase. The catalytic effect which was clarified by oxidation of TMHQ and catalase depends on the amount of cuprite phase and the particle size.
Fly ash has capacity to oxidize or adsorb mercury in a flue gas. Mercury oxidation and adsorption efficiencies of fly ash vary depending on the properties of fly ash. This study was designed to understand reaction characteristics of mercury with fly ash components. The fly ash components were tested to determine their oxidation and adsorption capabilities for elemental mercury and oxidized mercury. A sample was synthesized with fly ash components and tested. The test results were compared with those of the fly ash sample obtained from a coal-fired power plant. $Fe_2O_3$, CuO and carbon black showed higher oxidation or adsorption efficiency for elemental mercury while CaO, MgO, CuO and carbon black showed higher adsorption efficiency for mercury chloride. In addition, the synthesized sample showed comparable mercury oxidation and adsorption efficiencies to the fly ash sample.

The coating of metal surface with carbon nanotubes(CNTs) has been studied for the heat transfer enhancement of the boiling and condensation of refrigerant. The multiwalled carbon nanotube/copper oxide(CuO) composite powder, which has been surface modified by dispersant and polyvinyl alcohol solution, was ultrasonically sprayed and sintered on a copper wafer. In this paper, experiments were performed to assess the characterization and comparison of the carbon nanotube before and after sinterning and the morphology changes of the CNT/CuO-coated surface by using different dispersants. The dispersants used are THF (Tetrahydrofuran), SDBS(Dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid sodium salt), SDS(Sodium dodecy sulfate). The samples were examined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) and Raman spectroscopy.
Water-soluble phosphate glasses containing Ag and Cu ion were prepared through melting process. Dis-solution characteristics, bactericidal effect and cytotoxicity were investigated with composition and time in D. I. water using the powdered sample. Surface change were observed with increasing dissolution time us-ing the bulk specimen. Dissolution amount was maximum at the molar Ag:Cu ratio of 1 and increased with increasing time. The behavior of dissolution was total dissolution from the early stage. But no new layer was observed at the glass surface during dissolution. The bactericidal effect for pseudomonas sp, e. coli, sta-phylococcus aureus, and salmonella increased with increasing dissolution amount and therefore great bac-tericidal effect appeared. The result of cytotoxicity experiment to L929 showed that solution with more than 10 ppm of Ag ion had strong cytotoxicity.
A study on the removal of silver(Ag) in copper electrolyte was carried out to produce high purity copper by using various method such as ion exchange resin, activated carbon adsorption, copper cementation with powder and wire, CuS precipitation. Parameters, such as reaction time, reaction temperature, addition amount etc. were investigated to determine the effective condition of silver removal. CuS precipitation and ion exchange using Lewatit TP214 was found to be effective. Especially, silver content in copper electrolyte was reduced from 10 ppm to less than 0.1 ppm by ion exchange with Lewatit TP214.
It was found that cupric ion selective electrode, which was prepared by mixing CuS and $Ag_2S$ with the ratio four to one and PVC, was hard and durable. The response potentials were reproducible and linear in the range from 1.0 ${\times}$$10^{-1}M$ to 1.0 ${\times}$$10^{-5}M$ copper (II) solution and its slope was 25.0 mV per decade concentration at $298^{\circ}K$, slightly different from Nernstian slope. The copper (II) indicating electrode was applied in precipitation titration of 1.0 ${\times}$$10^{-2} M Cu(II)$ sample solution containing proper amounts $NaNO_3$ with 0.1 M NaOH standard solution. Also, this electrode could be used in complex titration of Zn(II), Mg(II), Ca(II) with EDTA and stability constant of EDTA complex of Ca(II) and Mg(II) was calculated by using known Cu-$EDTA^{2-}$ stability constant.
With the improvement of medical state, patients' expectations for the most advanced medical equipment are increasing. Particularly, Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) is used as one of the core image diagnosis methods in all clinical area. However, it has been reported that many of patients who go through the examination suffer from anxiety to the severe noise level during the examination. In this study, both the noise reduction evaluation of headsets with sound-blocking materials added to existing sound-absorbing materials and the existence of sound blocking materials as artifacts on the examination image are tested. An MRI test noise is recorded as a speaker by cross-ordination the sound material (sponge) and the sound material (acrylic plate, copper plate, and 3D copper plate) inside the headset made from 3D pring. A quantitative assessment of headsets showed that the average headset value was 81.8 dB. The average dB value of the most soundproof material combination(Copper, acrylic plate, sponge, sponge) headsets on headsets with added charactering material was measured at 70.4 dB, and MRI showed that the copper was diamagnetic substance and excluded. The second most soundproof headset(Sponge, acrylic plate, 3D copper plate, sponge) was measured at 70.6 dB and MRI showed no artifacts. The same simulation of the material printed with a 3D copper PLA containing approximately 40 % copper powder resulted in no artifacts, therefore, the material output as a 3D printing was better suited for use. For MRI related research, the mutual development of 3D printing is highly anticipated.

A Pd-Cu-Ni alloyed hydrogen membrane has fabricated on porous nickel support formed by nickel powder. Porous nickel support made by sintering shows a strong resistance to hydrogen embrittlement and thermal fatigue. Plasma surface modification treatment is introduced as pre-treatment process instead of conventional HCl wet activation. Nickel was electroplated to a thickness of $2{\mu}m$ in order in to fill micropores at the nickel support surface. Palladium and copper were deposited at thicknesses of $4{\mu}m$ and $0.5{\mu}m$, respectively, on the nickel coated support by DC sputtering process. Subsequently, copper reflow at $700^{\circ}C$ was performed for an hour in $H_2$ ambient. And, as a result PdCu-Ni composite membrane has a pinhole-free and extremely dense microstructure, having a good adhesion to the porous nickel support and infinite hydrogen selectivity in $H_2/N_2$ mixtures.
