The purpose of this study was to investigate that the effect of Citrex and CPC on the growth of oral microorganism such as Streptococcus mutans KCTC 3065, Candida albicans KCTC 7122, and Staphylococcus aureus KCTC 1916 which were cariogenic, candidiasis(bleeding gum, dry mouth and tongue, thrush) and angular cheilitis inducing bacteria, respectively. The efficacy of complex of Citrex and CPC was determined in assays measuring Halo Test. The gargle containing Citrex(0.02%) and CPC(0.02%) demonstrated broad-spectrum anti-microbial properties, with activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative and a yeast(Candida albicans).

As oral diseases are developed by mixed infections, not by any single element, an accurate analysis of the causative microorganisms related to dental caries and periodontal diseases is required. In this study, saliva was collected from selected adults to determine if the bacteria that are well known as the causative microorganisms of dental caries and periodontal diseases would be detected in their saliva. In addition, this study examined whether there would be any differences among adults according to age, smoking, drinking and presence or absence of diseases in the distribution of oral bacteria to determine the risk factors for oral bacteria. The study subjects were 120 adults ranging in age from 20 to 65 years. The experiment data was collected from March 15, to May 2014. The gDNA was collected from the saliva, and the distribution of bacteria for oral diseases was investigated by PCR. The findings of the study were as follows. S. mutans was detected from 72 adults, and P. intermedia was detected from 88 adults. Both bacteria were detected from 54 adults, and no oral bacteria was detected in 14 adults. An analysis of the risk factors of oral bacteria showed that smokers had a 2.8-fold higher risk of S. mutans than nonsmokers, and the former had a 3.5-fold higher risk of P. intermedia than the latter. Drinkers had a 3.3-fold higher risk of S. mutans than nondrinkers. Patients who suffered from systemic diseases had a 4.1-fold higher risk of P. intermedia than those with no diseases. Therefore, smoking, drinking and systemic diseases are factors that increase the likelihood of oral bacteria detection. More periodontal disease bacteria were detected from older adults, and more oral bacteria were found in adults who were in their 20s, as dental caries and periodontal diseases were more common in this age group. The adults in which oral bacteria were detected are more likely to have dental caries or periodontal diseases, and they should try to keep their mouth cavity clean and make regular visits to a dental clinic to prevent possible oral diseases.

Oral pigmentation has numerous etiologies. It can be associated with congenital diseases and syndromes, certain acquired diseases, and systemic medications. Pigmented lesions caused by serious disease such as melanoma should be diagnosed correctly, because it would be fatal. For appropriate differential diagnosis, clinicians should know about the etiologies causing oral pigmentation and take patients history carefully. Biopsies would be necessary for histopathological findings. Close follow up for clinical symptoms are also necessary. In this case report, we presented a case of oral hyperpigmentation in Asian patient who was receiving pegylated interferon and ribavirin combination therapy for hepatitis C virus infection.
The antagonistic microorganisms against Streptococcus sanguis, S. salivarius and S. mutans causing the dental caries of oral diseases were isolated from Korean traditional soy sauce. Twenty five strains were isolated by pairing culture, paper disc culture and dual culture methods. The isolate NG 06 strain was observed with various cultural and physiological test, and $Biolog^{(R)}$ Bacterial Identification System. The strain was identified as Bacillus racemilacticus. The isolate NG 16 strain was confirmed to Gram-positive, rods, endospore production, utilization of melibiose, casein hydrolysis and starch hydrolysis. Also the second strain NG 16 was identified as $\beta$. amyloliquefaciens.
In the oral cavity, there are hundreds of microbial species that exist as planktonic cells or are incorporated into biofilms. The accumulation and proliferation of pathogenic bacteria in the oral biofilm can lead to caries and periodontitis, which are typical oral diseases. The oral bacteria in the biofilm not only can resist environmental stress inside the oral cavity, but also have a 1,000 times higher resistance to antibiotics than planktonic cells by genes exchange through the interaction between cells in the oral biofilm. Therefore, if the formation of oral biofilm is suppressed or removed, oral diseases caused by bacterial infection can be more effectively prevented or treated. In particular, since oral biofilms have the characteristic of forming a biofilm by gathering several bacteria, quorum sensing, a signaling system between cells, can be a target for controlling the oral biofilm. In addition, a method of inhibiting biofilm formation by using arginine, an alkali-producing substrate of oral bacteria, is used to convert the distribution of oral microorganisms into an environment similar to that of healthy teeth or inhibit the secretion of glucosyltransferase by S. mutans to inhibit the formation of non-soluble glucans. It can be a target to control oral biofilm. This method of inhibiting or removing the oral biofilm formation rather than inducing the death of pathogenic bacteria in the oral cavity will be a new strategy that can selectively prevent or therapeutic avenues for oral diseases including dental caries.
This study was to investigate the relationship of BMI, sleep time and experience of oral diseases in adolescents. We want to help develop basic data for improving oral health of adolescents. According to the sample design of the Youth Health Behavior online survey, a total of 57,303 adolescents were analyzed for frequency of composite samples, x2-test of composite samples, and logistic regression of composite samples, and the IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 program was used and the significance level was 0.05. Results, BMI was associated with bad breath, and sleep time was associated with tooth break, pain, bleeding, and bad breath. Therefore, BMI and sleep time should be considered for the management and prevention of oral diseases in adolescents.

Objectives: This study was conducted to identify the relations between multiple chronic diseases and peridontal diseases in Korean adults. Methods: A total of 4,142 cases was set for analysis, who aged 35 and over and finished with the third year health survey and oral health check-up of the fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(2012). Peridontal disease was defined if community periodontal index(CPI) was 3(formation of paradental cyst of more than 4mm) or 4(formation of paradental cyst of more than 6mm). Results: The subjects consisted of 48.5% male and 51.5% female. The prevalence rate of peridontal disease was found to be 30.1% in total. In peridontal disease the more the age increased, and the lower the education level and income level as well as the more where the residential area was rural, the higher the prevalence rate was(p<0.01). According to the number of multiple chronic conditions the prevalence rate of periodontal disease accounted for 27.8%, 31.9%, 33.1%, and 35.2% when there were 0, 1, 2, and 3 or more chronic diseases respectively. As a result of logistic regression analysis, gender, age, education level, residential area, current smoking, and use of oral hygienic products were found to be significant factors on peridontal disease. Conclusions: This research revealed the prevalence rate of peridontal disease was 30.1% in Korean adults and health behaviors affecting on periodontal disease were more significant.
The aim of this study was to investigate adult individuals' perceptions on the association between chronic diseases and oral health provide basic data required for motivating individuals to follow ideal oral health behaviors and boost their interests in oral disease prevention and treatment. Subjects in their 20s to 50s were selected through the convenience sampling method and eleven questions were set as factors and answered via self-administered questionnaires. To determine statistical significance, analysis of variance was used with the level of significance set at 0.05. The subjects' perception of the association between chronic diseases and oral health were analyzed with respect to their health behaviors. Individuals with relatively higher stress levels demonstrated higher levels of perception levels (p<0.05). Public education regarding the association between chronic diseases and oral health has not been ideally effective in South Korea. Thus, the general public's perceptions of the association between chronic diseases and oral health should be revised. In addition aspects regarding this matter should be enhanced within oral health education programs which often only focus on demonstrating the importance of oral health management so that individuals can get sufficient information on the association between chronic diseases and oral health.
Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) associated with gastritis and gastric cancer is mainly detected dental plaque and saliva in the oral cavity. Most infection is probably acquired in childhood, but the route of transmission is not clear. The oral cavity has been indicated as secondary reservoir of H. pylori, and may therefore be argued in the route of transmission and reinfection of the stomach which follows treatment of H. pylori infection. So this review aimed to discuss about H. pylori in the oral cavity. H. pylori in stomach can appear in the oral cavity by gastroesophageal reflex or vomiting, but infection of stomach and oral cavity is different. Diagnostic methods are serological method, urea breath test, PCR method, urease test, histologic method and so on. Nested PCR recommend for detection of H. pylori in saliva and dental plaque. H. pylori infection in the oral cavity appear variously and is no relation with dental diseases. The antimicrobial mouthrinse recommend in patients with periodontal diseases because of high detection rate fo H. pylori. Thus H. pylori may be considered as the normal oral microflora.
