The purpose of this study is to identify general, physical, and social self-efficacy according to oral health behavior among the elderly and examine the factors affecting them. For this purpose, a survey was conducted in 500 persons aged 60 years or older residing in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province from June 1 to August 30, 2013. With the exception of 73 questionnaires that were not completed or contained insincere responses, 427 copies (recovery rate: 85.4%) were analyzed, thus obtaining the following results: 1) In terms of the respondents' socio-demographic characteristics, those who were younger, who were more highly educated, who were married, and who got a larger amount of monthly pocket money showed higher general, physical, and social self-efficacy, with statistically significant differences (p<0.001). 2) The group with good oral health behavior showed higher general and social self-efficacy and that with an average level of oral health behavior showed higher physical self-efficacy, with significant differences (p<0.001). 3) The factor most influential on oral health behavior was general self-efficacy (${\beta}=0.184$), followed by social self-efficacy (${\beta}=0.162$), physical self-efficacy (${\beta}=0.101$).
This study aimed to examine whether needs for scaling are associated with health behaviors in a representative sample of middle-aged Korean people. We examined 5120 individuals aged 40 to 64 years who participated in the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed with adjustments for demographic variables and health status. This analysis revealed significant associations between needs for scaling and the following: current smoking, no visits to dental clinics, current drinking, non-oral checkups, and non-use of oral care products. As a result of a subgroup analysis, significant factors differed according to gender. As a result of this study, needs for scaling were associated with identified health behaviors and findings about health behaviors that are effective for maintaining and promoting periodontal health in middle-aged people were confirmed.
This study intends to provide basic data to confirm the convergence effects of economic activity on the quality of life and oral health of middle-aged Korean women. Data from the 2019 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used, and complex sample logistic regression analysis and linear regression analysis were performed to confirm the effect of economic activity on health-related quality of life (Korean Health-related Quality of Life Instrument with 8 Items; HINT-8) and oral health-related factors. As a result, in the case of controlling for demographic characteristics and economic activity, there was a significant effect in 4 items (energy, work, memory, sleep) out of HINT-8. When the oral health status was adjusted, there was a significant effect only in 2 items (working and memory) of HINT-8 (p<.05). Therefore, although economic activity of middle-aged Korean women has a positive effect on quality of life, it is considered to be valuable in that oral health status can reduce the influencing factors.
This study was conducted to analyze the impact factors of serious dental disease of elderly and to propose the need to treatments of negative factors on oral health-related quality of life. This study used the data of the 6th 3nd-year(2015) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The dependent variables of this study were reviewed for serious dental diseases, and the independent variables were divided into demographic characteristics, health status and behavior, oral health status, and behavior. The results of study were as follow. Factors influencing dental caries was household income(p<.01), health checkups(p<.05), experience of toothache for the recent 1 year(p<.05), and whether to use oral hygiene devices(p<.05). Factors influencing periodontal disease was age(p<.05), occupation(p<.05), and whether to Comorbidity(p<.05). Based on these results, a political alternative plan will need to be arranged for promoting oral health in the aged as a relevant research is vitalized.

This study examined the relationship between the sociodemographic characteristics, health related factors, physical functions (ADL, IADL), mental functions (CES-D, MMSE-K), oral health impact profile (OHIP-14), and the quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) for the elderly in long-term care facilities. The research was conducted in 602 facility allowance beneficiaries authorized to be eligible for long-term care in long-term care facilities through personal interviews using a structured questionnaire from May 1 to June 30, 2016. As a result, the quality of life was lower among females than males in the group receiving government subsidies than the group whose livelihood was maintained by themselves or their children, in the group with a longer period of care, in the drinking group than the non-drinking group, in the group with irregular exercise than the regular exercise, in the group with irregular meals than regular meals, in the group with poor subjective health conditions than good subjective health condition, in the group with a smaller number of daily toothbrushing, in the group with xerostomia than no xerostomia, in the group with a lower OHIP-14, in the group with a lower ADL and IADL, and in the group with a lower CES-D and MMSE-K. In particular, the quality of life was affected more by health-related factors and CES-D and MMSE-K than by other factors. Therefore, it is necessary to make efforts to prevent depression and cognitive impairment, including health-related behavior, with the objective of improving the quality of life for the elderly in long-term care facilities.
This purpose of this study was to analysis the relation of awareness and practices of oral health promotion. The subjects in this study were 133 workers who worked in Seoul, Gyeonggi province, and were at the age of 20 and up. The survey was conducted from January 16 to March 31, 2012. The collected data is statistically analyzed by SPSS. For the level oral health awareness of industrial workers, the awareness of prevention of tooth decay and periodontal disease was high, but that of necessity of oral hygiene supplies other than tooth brushing was low. For the level of oral health care practice, they showed the highest awareness for the importance of cleaning a tongue when brushing teeth, and the lowest for the importance of dental care. For oral health awareness according to the general properties, workers with average income of 2~3 million one showed higher oral health awareness than others. For oral health care practice, those who brush their teeth more than 3 times a day and who have visited the dentist during the last year had higher oral health care practice than others. For oral health awareness according to the level of interest in oral health and the status of oral health of the industrial workers, those who have higher interest in oral health turned out to have higher oral health awareness. The relation between oral health awareness and oral health care practice of the industrial workers showed a positive correlation, which indicates that the higher oral health awareness is, the higher oral health care practice is.

This study was conducted to investigate the risk factors affecting dental caries in children by using the 2018 children's oral health survey data. The study was conducted on 20,235 children who were 12 years of age. The survey items examined general characteristics, dental dietary behavior, the oral condition, and the behavioral factors related to oral health. The results showed that gender, region, economic level, subjective oral health condition, dental dietary behavior, oral condition and oral health-related behavior were all risk factors. Those children with oral conditions particularly showed a higher risk of the dental caries symptoms of dental calculus, dental bleeding, tooth pain and white spot teeth. The oral health-related behaviors were found to be tooth brushing less than two times a day, the risk of not using a handle to hold dental floss and not using dental floss. Our results showed that countries or communities can diagnose and manage dental well-being early on for children with the highest sensitivity of dental health and they need to continue to establish a dental well-being management system for the oral health care of children. In addition, oral health education should be expanded, which can improve oral health care habits of children and adolescents. Further, an oral health policy system for improving community programs to prevent dental and community utilization is needed.
The purpose is to investigate correlation of periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease among those living alone and living with family by using 6th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. According to general characteristics, cardiovascular diseases were found to be related to gender, education level of those living with family; and age and income level of elderly living alone. The oral health status, oral health patterns and cardiovascular disease distribution of both groups for the past year were examined. The relationship between cardiovascular disease and periodontal disease was related to hypertension only in the living with family. Cardiovascular disease and periodontal disease are the most common diseases so considering the two diseases together is necessary to check the health status in the future.
This study aims to provide basic data to identify the effects of oral health behavior and autologous oral health symptoms on factors that affect quality of life of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 19) depression. This study collected data from July 2020 to September 2020, the research method was finally analyzed for 89 people in the group of depression non-increase and 86 people in the group of depression due to COVID-19. As an analysis method, oral health behavior, autologous oral health symptom and quality of life were compared, and the hierarchical regression analysis was implemented to check the effect of depression on the quality of life. As a result, the effects of depression (=-0.155, p=0.012) and autologous oral health symptoms (=0.524, p<0.001) were significant as a result of controlling demographic characteristics and checking the effects on quality of life. Therefore, it is urgent to develop programs related to the mental health of the community to relieve depression and anxiety with COVID-19, and public relations activities will be needed to relieve anxiety about dental visits so that dental treatment can be received at an appropriate time.
This study aims to understand the relationship between the awareness of oral health prevention and general characteristics by investigating the awareness of oral health prevention and to provide basic data to make oral health education guidelines for oral health prevention and the need for oral health prevention by analyzing factors that influence the awareness of oral health prevention. For about a month since December 2016, the data of 380 people aged 10 and over residing in Seoul and the Gyeonggi Province was gathered, and the following results have been obtained after excluding 19 people whose answers were insufficient. It was found that gender (female, p<0.05), age (50 years and over, p<0.05), educational background (high school diploma and university diploma or higher, p<0.05), average monthly income (KRW 3.0 million - 4.0 million, p<0.05), oral health importance (p<0.001), and awareness of the need for oral health prevention (p<0,001) among the selected independent variables had statistically significant effects on the awareness of oral health prevention. Considering the results above, I believe that it is important to develop oral health education programs, which reflect the characteristics of people in order to motivate them to perform prevention activities, rather than education programs about simply acquiring knowledge for prevention activities and to establish social conditions that can enable continued education, in order to increase the awareness of oral health prevention activities.
