Congestion Control Scheme for Efficient Multimedia Transmission in Broadband Wireless Networks (광대역 무선 네트워크에서 효율적인 멀티미디어 전송을 위한 혼잡 제어 기법)

  • TCP does not ensure the bandwidth and delay bound required for multimedia streaming services in broadband wireless network environments. In this paper, we propose a new congestion control scheme for efficient multimedia transmission, called COLO TCP (Concave Increase Slow Start Logarithmic Increase Congestion Avoidance TCP). The COLO TCP prevents the burst packet loss by applying the concave increase algorithm in slow start phase. In the congestion avoidance phase, COLO TCP uses the logarithmic increase algorithm that quickly recovers congestion window after packet loss. To highly utilize network bandwidth and reduce packet loss ratio, COLO TCP uses additive increase algorithm and adaptive decrease algorithm. Through simulation results, we prove that our COLO TCP is more robust for random loss. It is also possible for efficient multimedia transmission.

Systematic Transmission Method of Industrial IEEE 802.15.4 for Real-time Mixed Traffic (실시간 혼합 트래픽 전송을 위한 산업용 IEEE 802.15.4 망의 체계적 전송 기법)

  • In this paper, dynamic GTS scheduling method based on IEEE 802.15.4 is proposed for wireless control system considering reliability and real-time property. The proposed methods can guarantee a transmission of real-time periodic and sporadic data within the limited time frame in factory environment. The superframe of IEEE 802.15.4 is used for the dynamic transmission method of real-time mixed traffic (periodic data, sporadic data, and non real-time message). By separating CFP and CAP properly, the periodic, sporadic, and non real-time messages are transmitted effectively and guarantee real-time transmission within a deadline. The simulation results show the improvement of real-time performance of periodic and sporadic data at the same time.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a methodology for operating variable speed limit (VSL) strategies in freeway work zones. A notable feature in this study is to incorporate a multi-criteria decision making process into deriving better VSL strategies. Decision criteria in this study include operational efficiency, safety, and environmental impacts. Travel speed, acceleration noise, and CO2 were used as performance measures for evaluating VSL strategies. A multi-criteria value function was developed through an analytical hierarchical process (AHP) for representing expert's knowledge. Then, a variety of VSL operations scenarios were investigated utilizing a microscopic traffic simulation suite, VISSIM. The proposed methodology would be useful in supporting more efficient, safer, and more environment-friendly traffic operations and control in freeway work zones.

Enhanced TCP Congestion Control Mechanism for Networks with Large Bandwidth Delay Product (대역폭과 지연의 곱이 큰 네트워크를 위한 개선된 TCP 혼잡제어 메카니즘)

  • Traditional TCP implementations have the under-utilization problem in large bandwidth delay product networks especially during the startup phase. In this paper, we propose a delay-based congestion control(DCC) mechanism to solve the problem. DCC is subdivided into linear and exponential growth phases. When there is no queueing delay, the congestion window grows exponentially during the congestion avoidance period. Otherwise, it maintains linear increase of congestion window similar to the legacy TCP congestion avoidance algorithm. The exponential increase phase such as the slow-start period in the legacy TCP can cause serious performance degradation by packet losses in case the buffer size is insufficient for the bandwidth-delay product, even though there is sufficient bandwidth. Thus, the DCC uses the RTT(Round Trip Time) status and the estimated queue size to prevent packet losses due to excessive transmission during the exponential growth phase. The simulation results show that the DCC algorithm significantly improves the TCP startup time and the throughput performance of TCP in large bandwidth delay product networks.

  • 일반적으로 시스템 인식과 제어에 이용하는 다층 신경회로망은 기존의 역전파 알고리즘을 이용한다. 그러나 결선강도에 대한 오차의 기울기를 구하는 방법이기 때문에 국부적 최소점에 빠지기 쉽고, 수렴속도가 매우 늦으며 초기 결선강도 값들이나 학습계수에 민감하게 반응한다. 이와 같은 단점을 개선하기 위하여 확장된 칼만 필터링 기법을 역전파 알고리즘에 결합하였으나 계산상의 복잡성 때문에 망의 크기가 증가하면 실제 적용할 수 없다. 최근 신경회로망을 선형과 비선형 구간으로 구분하고 칼만 필터링 기법을 도입하여 수렴속도를 빠르게 하고 초기 결선강도 값에 크게 영향을 받지 않도록 개선하였으나, 여전히 은닉층의 선형 오차값을 역전파 알고리즘에 의해서 계산하기 때문에 학습계수에 민감하다는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 위에서 언급한 기존의 신경회로망 알고리즘의 문제점을 개선하기 위하여 은닉층의 목표값을 최적기법에 의하여 직접계산하고 각각의 결선강도 값은 반복최소 자승법으로 온라인 학습하는 알고리즘을 제안하고 이들 신경회로망 알고리즘과 비교하고자 한다. 여러 가지 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통하여 제안된 방법이 초기 결선강도에 크게 영향을 받지 않으며, 기존의 학습계수 선정에 따른 문제점을 해결함으로써 신경회로망 모델에 기초한 실시간 제어기 설계에 응용할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한, 유도전동기의 속도추정과 제어에 적용하여 좋은 결과를 보였다.

Active Phased Array Antenna Control Scheme for Improving the Performance of Monopulse Tracking Algorithm (모노펄스 추적 알고리즘 성능 향상을 위한 능동위상배열안테나 제어 기법)

  • The monopulse tracking algorithm can estimate the location of a partner station based on an RF (Radio Frequency) signal. The location of the partner station is estimated based on the monopulse ratio curve (MR-C), which is calculated based on the sum and difference signal patterns of an antenna. Therefore, the range in which the estimated location can be calculated with high accuracy increases in proportion to the linear region of MR-C. In this paper, we proposed a method to extend the linear region of the MR-C curve using the beamforming technique for the tracking antenna system using the active phased array antenna. Simulation results based on the same antenna system, it was confirmed that the linear region of MR-C was enlarged by about twice as much as the general case where the proposed method was not applied.

The Congestion Estimation based TCP Congestion Control Scheme using the Weighted Average Value of the RTT (RTT의 가중평균값을 이용한 혼잡 예측 기반 TCP 혼잡 제어 기법)

  • TCP, which performs congestion control in congestion condition, is able to help a reliable transmission. However, packet loss can be increased because congestion window is increased by the time the packet is dropped in the process of congestion avoidance. In this paper, to solve the above problem, we propose a new congestion estimation based TCP congestion control scheme using the weighted average value of the RTT. After measuring a SRTT, which means the weighted average value of RTTs, at this point of time when a buffer overflow is occurred by an overloaded packet, the proposed scheme estimates the time, when the same SRTT is made in packet transmission, as a congestion time and then decreases the congestion window. The simulation results show that the proposed schem has a good performance in terms of packet loss rate and throughput when the packet loss due to buffer overflow is larger than that due to wireless channel.

  • Model Based Predictive Control(MBPC) has been widely used in predictive control since 80's. GPC[1] which is the superset of many MBPC strategies a popular method, but GPC has some weakness, such as insufficient stability analysis, non-applicability to internally unstable systems. However, CRHPC[2] proposed in 1991 overcomes the above limitations. So we chose RHPC based on CRHPC for electric furnace control. An electric furnace which has nonlinear properties and large time delay is difficult to control by linear controller because it needs nearly perfect modelling and optimal gain in case of PID. As a result, those controls are very time-consuming. In this paper, we applied RHPC with equality constraint to electric furnace. The reults of experiments also include the case of RHPC with monotonic weighting improving the transient response and including unmodelled dynamics. So, This paper proved the practical aspect of RHPC for real processes.

  • 모델 예측전류제어 과정에서 공통모드전압을 저감 하기 위한 기존연구방안들이 제시되어 왔지만 두 상의 스위치 함수가 변동하는 데드 타임 구간이나 영 전압벡터 두 가지를 모두 저감시키지는 못하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 모델예측전류제어는 영 전압벡터와 데드 타임에서의 공통모드전압을 고려하여 H8 인버터시스템에서 공통모드전압을 저감하였을 뿐만 아니라 영 전압 벡터 사용으로 인한 THD도 개선하였다. 모델예측전류제어를 적용한 H8 인버터 시스템의 공통모드전압의 저감과 출력전류 THD 개선을 시뮬레이션을 통해 증명하였다.
