Evaluation of the Self-purification Capacity in the Southern Waters of the East Sea in Summer (하계 동해남부해역의 자정능력 평가)

  • Human wastes are rich in organic matter and therefore affect the dissolved oxygen when they are discharged into the sea. The breakdown of this organic matter liberates nutrients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the self-purification capacity in the southern waters of the East Sea during the three cruises in June, July and August, 1986. Streeter and Phelps' model has been used in this study. Factors in this model, deoxygenation constant and reaeration coefficient, have been determined by applying oxygen consumption method and a closed system model. Deoxygenation constant and reaeretion coefficient are 0.177-0.313/day and 0.025-0.364/day respectively. The self-purification capacity to the DO value of 5mg/l is found to be $42.29\~434.25g\;BOD/m^2$, and to a great extent depends on the vertical mixing.

Synthesis of 8-HQR and 8-HQRS Chelate Resins and It's Ion Exchange Properties (8-HQR 및 8-HQRS 킬레이트 수지의 합성과 그의 이온교환 성질)

  • 8-Hydroxyquinoline-resorcinol(8-HQR) and 8-hydroxyquinoline-resorcinol-salicylic acid (8-HQRS) chelate resins were prepared by the condensation reaction of 8-hydroxyquinoline, or 8-hydroxyquinoline-salicylic acid, in the presence of resorcinol with formaldehyde. The ion exchange capacities of 8-HQR and 8-HQRS resins were 4.1 meq/g and 5.4 meq/g, respectively. The adsorption and distribution coefficient of metal ions, such as Fe(III), Cu(II), Pb(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) on these resins were discussed. The adsorption of metal ions on these chelate resins showed that the maximum adsorption condition is pH 7. And the distribution coefficient of metal ions on these resins was increased with decreasing of hydrochloric acid concentration.

Preparation and Characterization of the Impregnation to Porous Membranes with PVA/PSSA-MA for Fuel Cell Applications (연료전지 응용을 위한 다공성막에 친수성 고분자의 함침을 통한 고내구성 이온교환막의 제조 및 특성 연구)

  • This study focuses on the investigation of the impregnation of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) crosslinked with poly(styrene sulfonic acid-co-maleic acid) (PSSA-MA) to porous polyethylene membrane for the fuel cell application. The membranes were characterized by the measurements of the water content, contact angle, FTIR spectra, thermal gravimetric analysis, ion exchange capacity, proton conductivity, methanol permeability and elastic modulus. The existence of hydrophilic moieties in the impregnated membranes was confirmed by contact angle and FTIR measurements. The impregnated PVA/PSSAMA(90:10) membrane exhibited a higher ion exchange capacity (1.2 meq./g dry membrane) than Nafion membrane (0.91 meq./g dry membrane). Through the elastic modulus measurement, the dimensional stability of the resulting membranes was expected to increase higher than the polyethylene membranes. The methanol crossover and water content decreased even if the PSSA-MA content increased due to the reduction of the free volume.

  • 오염물질 유출 사고가 발생했을 경우 안전한 수자원의 관리 및 공급을 위해 오염물질의 혼합거동에 대한 정확한 해석이 필요하다. 하천에 유입된 오염물질의 혼합 거동에 영향을 미치는 인자들은 다양하지만, 수리구조물 등에 의해 발생한 저흐름 영역에 의해 오염물질이 정체되는 현상에 대한 연구는 아직 미흡한 실정이다. 특히, 국내 하천에는 약 33,000여 개가 넘는 취수보가 설치되어 있으며, 이 보들은 대부분 광정보 형태의 농업용수 취수를 목적으로 하고 있다. 이러한 보에는 저유량 시기에 보 상하류간의 흐름을 원활하게 하기 위한 노치(notch) 형태의 배수로가 설치되어 있으며, 노치로 인하여 보 상류쪽에 연직방향 뿐만 아닌 수평방향 흐름장의 변화 및 저흐름 영역이 형성된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는, 노치가 설치된 보 구조물 주변에서의 수평 방향 흐름 구조 및 오염물질의 혼합 거동을 분석하여 하천 저장대 모형의 매개변수를 산정하였다. 저흐름 영역에 의하여 오염물질의 정체현상이 발생할 경우, 일반적으로 오염물질 혼합 해석에 사용되는 Fickian 이송-확산 모형은 농도의 공간 분포를 잘 재현하지 못하기 때문에 non-fickian 모형인 하천 저장대 모형이 널리 사용되고 있다. 하천 저장대 모형에서의 주요 매개변수로는 저장대 영역(저흐름 영역)의 면적과 질량교환계수가 있으며, 본 연구에서는 노치의 조건 변화에 따른 저장대 영역 및 질량교환계수의 변화를 분석하기 위하여 수리실험을 수행하였다. 노치의 조건 변화에 따른 저장대 모형의 매개변수 산정을 위하여 보 구조물이 설치되어 있는 개수로에서 수리실험을 수행하였으며, 광범위의 수평방향 흐름구조 및 오염물질의 혼합거동을 분석하기 위하여 LSPIV(Large Scale Particle-Image-Velocimetry) 및 PCA(Planar-Concentration-Analysis) 기법을 이용하여 유속 및 오염물질의 농도자료를 취득하였다. 취득된 유속 자료 및 농도자료를 바탕으로 보 상류에 위치한 저흐름영역의 크기 및 저흐름 영역과 주 흐름 영역 사이의 농도변화를 분석하였다. 실험자료 분석결과, 노치의 간격이 커질수록 저흐름영역의 크기 또한 증가하였으며, 오염물질의 체류시간 또한 증가하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

Study on Thermal Behavior and Design Method for Coil-type PHC Energy Pile (코일형 PHC 에너지파일의 열적 거동 및 설계법에 관한 연구)

  • An energy pile encases heat exchange pipes to exchange thermal energy with the surrounding ground formation by circulating working fluid through the pipes. An energy pile has many advantages in terms of economic feasibility and constructability over conventional Ground Heat Exchangers (GHEXs). In this paper, a coil-type PHC energy pile was constructed in a test bed and its thermal performance was experimentally and numerically evaluated to make a preliminary design. An in-situ thermal response test (TRT) was performed on the coil-type PHC energy pile and its results were compared with the solid cylinder source model presented by Man et al. (2010). In addition, a CFD numerical analysis using FLUNET was carried out to back-analyze the thermal conductivity of the ground formation from the Ttype PHC energy RT result. To study effects of a coil pitch of the coil-type heat exchange pipe, a thermal interference between the heat exchange pipes in PHC energy piles was parametrically studied by performing the CFD numerical analysis, then the effect of the coil pitch on thermal performance and efficiency of heat exchange were evaluated. Finally, an equivalent heat exchange efficiency factor for the coil-type PHC energy pile in comparison with a common multiple U-type PHC energy pile was obtained to facilitate a preliminary design method for the coil-type PHC energy pile by adopting the PILESIM2 program.

Synthesis and Ion Exchange Capacity of 4-Vinylpyridine-vinylsulfonic Acid Resin (Para-Vinylpyridine-vinylsulfonic Acid 수지(樹脂)의 합성(合成)과 이온 교환능(交換能))

  • Copolymerization of the 4-vinylpyridine with vinylacetate and divinylbenzene initiated by azobis-isobutyronitrile was carried out in DMF in presence $BaCl_2$ at $98^{\circ}C$. Ion exchange res in, poly 4-vinylpyridine-vinylsulfonic acid-divinylbenzene was prepared by sulfonation of 4-vinylpyridine-vinylacetatp-divinylbenzene with concentrated sulfuric acid. The compositions of each synthetic resin were identified by means of ir adsorption spectroscopy. Anion and cation capacities of 4-vinylpyridine-vinylsulfonic acid-divinylbenzene ion exchanger were 2.5meq/g and 4.8meq/g, respectively. Adsorption of Cd(II) and Cu(II) ions have showed larger quantity in alkalie media. A study also was made of the influence of alcohol on the distribution coefficient of Cd(II) and Cu(II) ions between the synthetic ion exchanger, and solution containing hydrochloric acid, various alcohols and water.   • An earth tube soil air heat exchange system was designed, installed and operated as a single pass heat exchanger to utilize the geothermal energy as an natural energy source. This study was undertaken to investigate the potential of the heating and cooling, energy gain, heat exchange efficiency and coefficient of performance of the system. The system consisted of 30m in length and 30cm in diameter polyethylene pipes buried 2m deep in soil. Maximum heating and cooling performance were 2.51㎾ and 1.26㎾ at the air mass rate of 21cmm. Energy gain and coefficient of performance were the function of temperature difference between outside air and soil temperature. They were expressed as Q=0.33$ imes$$Delta T_{max}$+0.134(㎾) for energy gain and COP=0.44$ imes$$Delta T_{max}$+0.178 for coefficient of performance with correlation factor of 0.95. The mean of heat exchange efficiencies was 85.6%.

Cooling Performance of Thermoelectric Module with Air-Cooled Heat Exchanger Fins (공랭식 열교환핀이 부착된 열전모듈의 냉각 성능에 관한 연구)

  • Thermal performance of louver fin and plate fin in a thermoelectric cooling system with a duct-flow type fan arrangement is analytically evaluated. The thermoelectric cooling system consists of a thermoelectric module and two heat exchanger fins. The analytic results show that the optimized louver fin has lower thermal resistance than plate fin. The COP and heat absorbed rate of the thermoelectric cooling system with optimized louver fins are 10.3% and 5.8% higher than optimized plate fins, respectively.

  • Tetraazamacrocyclic ion-exchangers, 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane bonded Merrifield peptide resin(TDM), 1,4,8,12-tetraazacyclopentadecane bonded Merrifield peptide resin(TPM) were prepared, and the ion-exchange capacity of these TDM and TPM were characterized. The distribution coefficients in various conc. of NH4Cl for magnesium with ion exchangers were determined by using the batch method. We found the isotope separation factors on new prepared tetraazamacrocyclic ion-exchangers bonded Merrifield peptide resin(TDM, TPM). The isotope separation of magnesium was determined by using of breakthrough method of column chromatography.

  • ATM망은 망 내부의 큐잉 랜덤 지연에 의한 CDV의 발생으로 클럭복원의 문제를 안고 있다. 큐잉에 의한 지연은 여러 가지 파라메터에 의해 좌우되며 특히 망의 부하와 트래픽이 전송되는 교환기의 수에 의해 크게 좌우된다. CBR 트래픽의 경우 이를 해결하기 위해 SAR 헤더에 송신부의 클럭 정보를 담아 보내고 수신부에서는 이 정보를 바탕으로 송신부의 클럭을 복원하는 SRTS 기법을 사용하고 있다. 그러나 실시간성을 요하는 VBR 트래픽은 CBR과는 달리 대역폭의 가변적인 성질을 가지고 있으며 그 변화가 다양하여 SRTS 기법을 그대로 적용하기 곤란하다. VBR의 경우에 CBR 전송을 위한 SRTS 기법을 그대로 적용하면 주파수의 가변성으로 인해 망 클럭 주파수에 비해 매우 낮은 주파수의 경우에는 사이클이 상대적으로 많아 정보의 정확성이 떨어지게 된다. 이를 방지하기 위해 서비스 클럭의 주파수가 낮은 경우에는 망 기준 주파수를 낮게 하므로써 정확성을 증가시킬 수 있다. 또한, VBR 트래픽의 경우 AAL1에서는 SRTS의 필요성이 강조되지 않으나 단지 CDV를 제거할 방법이 요구되어진다. 따라서 AAL1의 SRTS를 CDV의 측정을 위한 메카니즘으로 바꾸는 것이 필요하며, 각 기반으로하여 Wavelet 변환을 이용한 VBR 트래픽의 클럭 복원방식을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 ATM망에서 VBR 영상 서비스를 위한 AAL 계층에 이용이 가능하다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 wavelet 변환 블록에서 출력되는 계수 값을 선택하여 전송함으로써 VBR 트래픽의 보다 다양한 QoS를 만족시킬 수 있음을 보인다.
