This study was performed to establish Korean soft tissue cephalometric norms, to compare the norms between sexes and between races, and then to suggest a guideline to execute orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning for dentofacial deformities in Korean. Young Korean adults were selected. They were 27 males $(23.8{\pm}2.6-year-old)$ and 20 females $(22.5{\pm}1.7-year-old)$ who had harmonious facial balance. After taking lateral cephalograms under the natural head position which is widely known as a highly reliable and reproducible reference position, films were traced and analysing factors were measured as introduced by Arnett et at. Comparisons were done between male and female groups and between Korean and Caucasian groups using unpaired t-test. From the results it was concluded that Korean male had generally thicker lower facial soft tissue and smaller nasolabial angle, longer facial height, deeper facial depth, and more protrusive lower face than Korean female. From the comparison with Caucasian norms adopted from the research of Arnett et al., both Korean male and female showed longer facial lengths generally except less exposed maxillary incisor, and shorter facial depth than Caucasian counterparts. Also, both races showed similar horizontal position of maxillary structures from TVL (true vertical line), but there were more significant anteroposterior differences of marilla-mandible in Korean groups. These results mean Korean had relatively more retruded mandibular structures from the reference line, TVL. Individuals who had harmonious facial balance showed similar facial angle, more or less 170 degree, regardless of sexes or races.

The purpose of this study was to compare the amount of the vertical pin opening of dentures processed by the conventional compression method & the injection-processing method. The articulating ribbon and T-Scan system were used to determine the changes in tooth contacts and the correlation between the changes in tooth contacts and the amount of the vertical pin opening after processing was analyzed statistically. The obtained results were as follows. 1. The amounts of the vertical pin opening were 0.75mm, 0.31mm for conventional compression method and injection-pressing method, respectively. The difference between the two methods was highly significant on the basis of t test statistics(p<0.05). 2. The total number of contact points recorded by articulating ribbon after processing was decreased to 48%, 72%, of that before processing for conventional compression method and injection-pressing method, by T-Scan system, 39%, 53%, respectively. 3. The mean values for the number of contacts points per tooth recorded by articulating ribbon after processing were 1.6 for the second molar, 2.2 for the first moalr, 0.4 for the second premolar, 0.6 for the first premolar in conventional compression method, and 2, 3.2, 1.2, 0.8 in injection-pressing method. 4. The correlation between the reduction of contact points and the amount of the pin opening after processing was not significant. 5. The mean values for the number of contact points per tooth recorded by T-Scan system after processing were 1.25, 1.4, 0.7, and 0.55 at the second molar, the first molar, the second premolar, and the first premolar in conventional compression method, and 1.45, 2.1, 1.0, 0.75 in injection method, respectively. 6. The correlation between the number of contact points by using articulating ribbon and T-Scan system after processing was not significant in both methods.
Lateral cephalometric X-ray films in maximal intercuspation and maximal opening of 68 children were taken and analyzed to examine the pattern of condylar movement and to study the relationship between opening movement and morphologic factors of craniofacial skeleton. The results were as follows : 1. The mean value of maximal opening capacity was 47.1mm, condylar moving distance was 18.1mm, horizontal condyle movement was 17.5mm, vertical condyle movement was 3.8mm and condylar moving angle was $13.1^{\circ}$. 2. The maximal opening capacity had positive relationship with the length of anterior cranial base, mandible and maxillary complex and with posterior facial height and had negative relationship with articular angle, sagittal jaw relationship. 3. Vertical condyle movement and condylar moving angle had positive relationship with articular angle and had negative relationship with gonial angle. 4. Horizontal condyle movement and condylar moving distance had positive relationship with the length of maxillary complex.
Cement-retained implant prosthesis has several advantages in the esthetic and occlusal aspects. However, the difficulty of the retrievability and the possibility of peri-implantitis induced by the cement excess would be a threatening factor to the implant prognosis. Peri-implantitis resulting from the remaining cement could occur later on to the patients with periodontitis history. Retention can be controlled by selecting the right cement type. Retention of the cement was the strongest in the resin cement, followed by resin modified glass ionomer cement, poIycarboxylate cement, zinc phosphate cement and glass ionomer cement. Retention of the provisional cement weakened after thermocycling. Other factors such as the abutment number, abutment alignment, height and taper of the abutment can also affect the total retention. To the success of the cement-retained prosthesis, it's important to select the right cement for the clinical purpose. The prosthesis should be fabricated in accordance with the biomechanical requirements. The prosthesis should be cemented with the techniques to reduce the excess cement as much as possible. In addition, the excess cement should be identified using the radiography and carefully removed.
In partial edentulous patients, implant-assisted removable partial denture which provide additional retention and support by placing a small number of implants in strategic positions might be suitable treatment. This case of patient with loss of maxillary posterior teeth and moderate to severe wear of residual dentition, three implants were placed in the maxillary anterior edentulous area and then surveyed bridges were made including remaining anterior natural teeth. Posterior edentulous area was restored with distal extension removable partial denture (RPD). In addition, the worn mandibular natural teeth were restored with fixed prostheses. As a result, reduced vertical dimension and collapsed occlusal plane were rehabilitated, and improved functionally and aesthetically. The purpose of this case was to report the results of three-year follow-up of full mouth rehabilitation with anterior implant surveyed bridges and distal extension RPD.

The strict meaning of the term retarded eruption is that tooth eruption is delayed compared to its developmental stage. The etiological factors for it may be local, systemic or genetic. Its pathogenic mechanism is unknown in most cases. In cases of generalized retarded eruption without any clear reason, the general growth and development seems normal in all aspects and the teeth usually keep the normal eruption sequence. Usually the primary teeth may often be extracted hoping to provoke the eruption of the retarded teeth, only to be proved a failure. Consequently, the patient will be without teeth for many years, with loss of esthetics, loss of occlusal height and resorption of alveolar process. The primary goal in the treatment may therefore be to keep and maintain the primary teeth in good condition until they are naturally shed. This observation was done on 10 year 1 month old patient who were diagnosed as idiopathic retarded eruption through both radiographic and systemic examination and follow-up observation was done for 11 month.

The Purpose of this study was to Investigate the relationship between the space discrepancy of the mandibular dentition and craiofacial morphology in adults with good Angle class I occlusion. Dental casts of normal group, crowded group and spaced group were selected on the basis of dental crowding and spacing. Subjects with excessive space to accomodate the lower teeth were classified as spaced group(39). Subjects with a space discrepancy of more than 4mm were classified as crowded group(45). Normal subjects had little or no dental crowding and spacing(40). Various skeletodental measurements in lateral cephalograms were evaluated and compared by ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression analysis. The results were as follows; 1. ANB angle was larger in crowded group than in spaced group. 2. Maxilla and mandible in crowded group were inclined more downward and forward than in spaced group, so crowded group was found to have vortical tendency. 3. Anterior cranial base length and mandibular body length were longer in spaced group than in crowded group. 4. According to the multiple stepwise regression analysis with space discrepancy as dependent variable, 40% of variance of space discrepancy could be explained by ANB angle, anterior facial height and ramus height. Multiple regression equation was as follows Space discrepancy=46.51-2.51ANB-0.58AFH+0.65RH

Statement of problem. Anatomic landmarks have been used in the orientation of occlusal plane and the determination of vertical dimension for edentulous patients. Such as labial vestibules of anterior region and hamular notches, retromolar pads of posterior region are very useful anatomic landmarks for fabrication of occlusion rim because they are to be identified on master casts. Therefore, if average distances between landmarks of maxillae and mandible in dentate subjects are measured and applied, not only occlusal plane but also vertical dimension can be established initially. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to measure vertical distances between anatomic landmarks and to present a guide to the orientation of occlusal plane and the determination of vertical dimension of edentulous patients. Material and method. Upper and lower border-molded casts were made in 93 Korean dentulous subjects, mean age 25 years. Incisal edges of central incisors, bottoms of labial vestibules, hamular notches and the half level of retromolar pads were marked on casts. Measurements of vertical distances from incisal edge of central incisor to the bottom of labial vestibule, between upper and lower bottoms of labial vestibules, from hamular notch to retromolar pad and from hamular notch to the occlusal plane established by the incisal edge of maxillary central incisor and mesiopalatal cusps of both maxillary first molars were made on each cast. Results and conclusion. 1. The mean distance from the incisal edge of central incisor to the bottom of labial vestibule was 20.8mm(SD 1.7) on upper casts and 17.3mm(SD 1.4) on lower casts. 2. The mean distance between both bottoms of labial vestibules of upper and lower casts was 35.0mm(SD 2.7). 3 The mean distance from hamular notch to the half level of retromolar pad was 5.0mm(SD 1.3). 4. The mean distance from hamular notch to occlusal plane was 7.9mm(SD 1.5). 5. Distances from incisal edge of central incisor to labial vestibule on lower casts(P<0.01) and from hamular notch to retromolar pad(P<0.0001) were greater in male than in female.

Tooth preparation design is essential for successful laminate veneer treatment. Preservative tooth preparation limited on enamel, supra-margin advantageous for plaque control, and maintaining contact points known as a standard concept. However, the tooth preparation design has been the controversial issue. In biomechanical considerations, the incisal coverage should be decided on esthetic needs and necessity for the anterior guidance reconstruction. In occasion for sufficient enamel thickness, preparation can prolong to the palatal side but not recommended at palatal concavity. Elongation to contact point is selective option according to the cases. If an old resin restoration located at contact area, laminate veneer should cover over half area of that after surface treatment. The laminate veneer can be also selected at a partially discolored tooth root canal therapy (RCT) and at this occasion, the fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) posts are recommended.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to analyze the lower third facial changes in frontal view after mandibular setback surgery. Materials and Methods : In this study, fifteen subjects(6 males and 9 females) with class III dental and skeletal malocclusions who were treated with BSSRO(Bilateral Sagittal Split Ramus Ostetomy) were used. Frontal cephalometric radiographs were taken preoperatively and more than 6 months postoperatively, and hard tissue(H2-Hl) and soft tissue changes (S2-S1) were measured on vertical and horizontal reference lines. In 15 cases, changes which developed more than 6 months after surgery were studied. Results : The results were as follows. 1. In the facial height, hard tissue $decreased(2.46{\pm}2.76mm)$ with statistical significance(P<0.01), and soft tissue also $decreased(1.64{\pm}3.66mm)$. As a result, the facial height generally becomes shorter after sagittal split ramus osteotomy. 2. In the mandibular width, hard tissue $decreased(2.08{\pm}3.59mm)$ with statistical sgnificance(P<0.05), but soft tissue $increased (2.14{\pm}5.73mm)$ without statistically significant difference(P>0.05) postoperatively. 3. In the facial index, hard tissue $decreased(0.23{\pm}2.21%)$, but soft tissue $increased(2.41{\pm}3.46%)$ with statistical significance. Conclusion : One of the main purpose of orthognathic surgery is to achieve facial esthetics and harmony. In order to fullfill this purpose, it is important to carry out a precise presurgical treatment planning by estimating the changes of frontal profile after surgery.
