Agent Based Road Control Model for Micro-Level Traffic Simulation (미시적 교통 시뮬레이션을 위한 에이전트 기반 도로 통제 모델 구축 연구)

  • This study investigated how much the spread of traffic control information affect the traffic congestion in order to identify the behavior of the individual drivers that impacts on the entire transport system. For this purpose, agent-based transportation model was constructed. GIS data were directly used for the transportation model and the processing steps of the simulation results are presented. The results showed that the average speed was not lowered when the traffic information was provided to 30 to 70% of total drivers. In contrast, the driver's average speed is reduced when he traffic information was provided to less than 20% or 80% or more. In summary, the provision of traffic information to drivers has an influence on the traffic flow and bypassing vehicles can generate local congestion. This results can be used as a basis for the future direction of road transport policy.

  • 오늘날 현대 사회의 산업화, 도시화, 고도화는 자동차를 없어서는 안 될 필수품으로 자리매김하도록 하였다. 그에 따라 자동차 수는 1,500만대를 넘어서는 반면, 도로를 포함한 기반 시설의 증가는 연 2% 정도로 턱없이 부족하다. 이러한 현상으로 인해 발생되는 교통 혼잡을 완화하기 위해서 교통시설의 공급을 확대하거나, 교통시설의 효율성을 극대화하기 위한 많은 방안들이 모색되고 있으며, 그 중 교통 시설의 효율성을 높이기 위한 방안으로 부각되고 있는 것이 ITS 및 텔레매틱스 분야 이다. 본고에서는 ITS 및 텔레매틱스와 관련된 국내외 표준화의 현황과 전망에 대해서 살펴본다.

  • The current traffic signal control systems are operated depending on the pre-planned control scheme or the selected control scheme according to a period of time. The problem with these types of traffic control systems is that they can not cope with variant traffic flows appropriately. Such a problem can be difficult to solve by using binary logic. Therefore, in this 0paper, we propose a traffic signal control system which can deal wit various traffic flows quickly and effectively. The proposed controller is operated under uncertainty and in a fuzzy environment. It show the congestion of road traffic by using fuzzy logic, and it determines the length of green signal by means of a fuzzy inference engine. It modeled using petri-net to verify its validation.

  • DHV (Design-Hour Volume) for the estimation of number of lanes is determined by design-hour factor (K). The design-hour factor is defined as the proportion between the 30th highest hourly volume and AADT and determines the level of road planning. However, the K-factor estimated by an existing method has a problem because the hourly volumes on holiday and weekend appear in the relatively low rank in real world in spite of expected high volumes. To improve this problem, this study make use of the concept of traffic demand in estimating the design-hour factor. After the congested hourly volumes transfer to traffic hourly demand, the K-factors are estimated on urban expressways and are compared to the existing K-factors. It is perceived that the new K-factors have more realistic values due to utilizing the traffic demand. reflecting the congested flow.

  • In Korea, an intelligent transportation system(ITS) is established to efficiently operate traffic congestion on roads and is being used for traffic information collection and speed control systems. Currently, designated and dedicated lanes are in place to ensure traffic circulation and traffic safety, and systematic and accurate illegal vehicle crackdown systems with artificial intelligence technology are needed. In this study, we propose a vehicle number recognition model that can improve the efficiency of the traffic of designated vehicles. By applying computer vision technology, we are going to identify three-lane and four-lane multi-lane roads in real time and detect vehicle numbers by car to suggest ways to crack down on vehicles that violate the designated lane system.

Development of an Effectiveness Analysis Tool for Freeway Tollgate Entrance Control (고속도로 톨게이트 진입제어용 효과분석 툴의 개발)

  • This paper aims at developing an active expressway entrance control effectiveness analysis tool which operators can utilize and manage traffic based on current traffic condition. For this, after identifying the current problems of tollgate-based entrance policy being used, a new set of decision element such as congestion index, decision criteria for congestion, and congestion management unit has been proposed together with the procedure of newly developed tollgate control policy. Three key parts developed are traffic condition identification module, tollgate metering module, and travel speed calculation module. Some measures of effectiveness were also identified and the newly developed effectiveness analysis tool produced better result. According to classification of traffic condition by reference speed as 80km/h, the improved tollgate entrance procedure increased 21.5% in average travel speed compared with Do-Nothing case and also increased 8.8% compared with current entrance control method.

Development of a Continuous Network Design Model Based on Sensitivity Analysis (민감도 분석을 이용한 연속형 교통망설계모형의 개발)

  • 교통망설계문제란, 교통시스템을 최적상태로 만들기 위한 최적의 설계변수를 결정하는 문제이다. 대표적인 교통망설계문제로는 도로를 신설하거나 확장하는 문제가 있으며, 이외에 교통신호시간의 결정, 교통정보의 제공, 혼잡통행료 부과, 새로운 교통수단의 도입 등 여러 교통정책분야가 교통망설계문제에 포함된다고 볼 수 있다. 일반적으로 교통망설계문제는 bi-level 구조로 구축되는데, 기존 대부분의 연구들은 상위문제와 하위문제를 서로 협력없이(Noncooperative) 자신들만의 목적을 최적화시키는 Cournot-Nash게임형태로 구성하여 풀고 있으나, 실제 교통분야에서 다루는 문제들은 리더(leader)와 추종자(follower)가 존재하는 Stackelberg게임에 가깝다고 할 수 있다. 기존 bi-level 문제들이 Cournot-Nash게임형태로 구성되어 풀고 있는 이유는 Stackelberg게임으로 구성할 경우 풀기가 어렵기 때문이다. 이런 측면에서 본 연구는 리더와 추종자가 존재하는 Stackelberg게임으로 교통망설계문제를 구성하며, 설계 변수값에 따른 통행자의 행태변화도 인지오차(perceived error)를 고려한 확률적 통행배정문제로 구성하여 좀더 현실적인 결과를 도출하도록 한다. 제시된 모형을 풀기 위하여 민감도분석(Sensitivity analysis)을 이용하며, 설계문제의 해를 구하는 알고리듬도 제시한다. 또한, 이 기법을 일반 도로교통망(general transportation road network)에 적용할 수 있도록 민감도(sensitivity) 유도과정을 자세히 기술하였다. 개발된 모형을 평가하기 위하여 2개의 예제 교통망을 대상으로 모형을 적용한 결과, 합리적인 값들을 도출하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

A study on the reduction ratio of highway capacity in accordance to occurrence of accident (사고발생에 따른 고속도로용량감소율에 관한 연구)

  • An inappropriate evaluation of capacity leads to the incorrect and impractical result due to the transfer of error to the analysis and the evaluation on highway system. The traffic accident which reduces the capacity of road temporarily generates unpredictable congestion, causing difficulties in congestion management. Therefore, this research aims on the measurement of the capacity of the road in accordance to the speed at the accident which is a basic factor when performing analysis. Based on the given approach, the behavior of a vehicle in highway is understood to develop model of critical gap and model of maximum flow rate with respect to the speed of traffic flow. With the established model, the reduction rate of the capacity in highway system at the accident is measured. The result shows that the capacity is reduced by 37% when the speed of the traffic flow is 40km/h. Although the developed model can't be verified clearly, this research has shown that the reduction rate of the capacity in road system has a close relation to the speed.

  • The current paper presents a system dynamics model which can generate the land use anq transportation system performance simultaneously is proposed. The model system consists of 7 submodels (population, migration of population, household, job growth-employment-land availability, housing development, travel demand, and traffic congestion level), and each of them is designed based on the causality functions and feedback loop structure between a large number of physical, socio-economic, and policy variables. The important advantages of the system dynamics model are as follows. First, the model can address the complex interactions between land use and transportation system performance dynamically. Therefore, it can be an effective tool for evaluating the time-by-time effect of a policy over time horizons. Secondly, the system dynamics model is not relied on the assumption of equilibrium state of urban systems as in conventional models since it determines the state of model components directly through dynamic system simulation. Thirdly, the system dynamics model is very flexible in reflecting new features, such as a policy, a new phenomenon which has not existed in the past, a special event, or a useful concept from other methodology, since it consists of a lots of separated equations. In Chapter I, II, and III, overall approach and structure of the model system are discussed with causal-loop diagrams and major equations. In Chapter V _, the performance of the developed model is applied to the analysis of the impact of highway capacity expansion on land use for the area of Montgomery County, MD. The year-by-year impacts of highway capacity expansion on congestion level and land use are analyzed with some possible scenarios for the highway capacity expansion. This is a first comprehensive attempt to use dynamic system simulation modeling in simultaneous treatment of land use and transportation system interactions. The model structure is not very elaborate mainly due to the problem of the availability of behavioral data, but the model performance results indicate that the proposed approach can be a promising one in dealing comprehensively with complicated urban land use/transportation system.

A Study on Providing Real-Time Route Guidance Information by Variable Massage Signs with Driver Behavior (운전자 행태를 고려한 VMS의 실시간 경로안내 정보제공에 관한 연구)

  • The ATIS(Advance Traveler Information System), as one part of ITS, is a system aiming to disperse traffic volume on transportation networks by providing traffic information to transportation users on pre-trip and en-route trips. One of tools in ATIS is usage of VMS(Variable Message Signs). It provides to the drivers with direct information about state of processing direction. which is considered as the most effective method in ATIS. The purposes of providing VMS information are classified two categories. One is to provide simple information to drivers for their convenience. The other is to manage traffic demand to improve transportation network performance. However, for more effective and reliable VMS information, several strategies should be taken into account. The main VMS management strategy is "Traffic Diversion Strategy for minimum delay" when traffic congestion or incident are occurred. For effective operation. firstly. reasonable diversion traffic volume is determined by network traffic condition Secondly, it is necessary to make providing information strategy which reflects driver response behavior for controling diversion traffic volume. This paper focuses on the providing real-time route guidance information by VMS when congestion is occurred by the incidents. This sturdy estimates time-dependent system optimal diversion rate that inflects travel time and queue lengths using traffic flow simulation model on base Cellular Automata. In addition, route choice behavior models are developed using binary logit model for traffic information variable by traffic system controller. Finally, this study provides time-dependent VMS massage contents and degree of providing information in order to optimize the traffic flow.
