The purpose of this study was to explore differences in styles of perfectionism, stress, and career decision-making of gifted musicians by their grade level and examine the effect of perfectionism and stress of gifted musicians on their rational career decision-making. The participants of this study were 88 gifted musicians attending in the middle school of arts. The results indicated that there were significant differences in dimensions of perfectionism by the grade level of gifted musicians. The tendency of self-oriented, other-oriented, and socially prescribed perfectionism was higher with grade level. There were significant differences by grade level in stresses that gifted musicians experienced. The higher a grade level was, the more gifted musicians got stresses in self-development, parent-child relationship, peer relationship, and school life. The effect of grade level on career decision-making was significant in the rational and the transitional career decision-making. The higher a grade level was, the more rational decision-making was but the less transitional decision-making was. Meanwhile, when the effect of perfectionism and stress of gifted musicians on the rational career decision-making was examined, the rational career decision-making was predicted by self oriented perfectionism and self-development stress.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Adlerian Encouragement Program on the interpersonal satisfaction, self-efficacy and self-esteem among elementary school students. The program was consisted of 8 sessions: 1st session was for introducing programs and making positive nicknames, 2nd~5th sessions were for abandoning inferiority and discouraged thoughts, displaying posters of success experiences, creating merit trees, 6th~7th sessions were for self-encouragement and other people encouragement, 8th session was for closing the program. Subjects were 40 students who were the fifth grader students at I elementary school in G city. The subjects were divided into an experimental group(N=21) and a control group(N=19). All participants were asked to complete the Interpersonal Satisfaction scale(Kim, 2010), Self-efficacy scale(Han, 2003) and Self-esteem scale(Choi & Jeon, 1993). The pretest and post-test were taken in order to verify the effectiveness of the program. The data were analyzed with ANCOVA. The results are as follows: the Adlerian Encouragement Program had a significant impact on interpersonal satisfaction and self-esteem but didn't show a significant impact on self-efficacy. The study confirmed that the Adlerian Encouragement Program had a significant effect on interpersonal satisfaction and self-esteem of elementary school students, suggesting the encouragement, a key technique in Adlerian psychology, is an important educational philosophy and method for healthy development and democratic class management.
The purpose of this study was to investigate item goodness-of-fit of Scale, Rasch rating scale model was applied to 5 dimensions 24 items of the Test of Performance Strategies (TOPS) in a sample of athletes with physical disabilities (n=215). An assumption to test Rasch Model, which is satisfaction of unidimensionality, is regarded through PCAR test, and WINSTEPS 3.65 program is used to test the goodness-of-fit of items. The results of this study were: First, 3-point rating category was appropriate for the TOPS instead of the existing 5-point rating category. Second, as a result of analyzing the goodness-of-fit of the items, 21 items of the TOPS were suitable, but 3 items were not. Third, the item reliability of person separation of the TOPS was acceptable, but the person reliability of item separation was not suitable and it was necessary to adjust the item order considering the difficulty level of the items. Fourth, as a result of comparing the individual attribute score and the difficulty level through the Item-Person Map, the distribution of the item difficulty distribution was shown to be biased in some factors compared to the personal attribute score distribution.
The present study was conducted to develop and validate a psychological scale that measures individuals' attitude toward unification of Korea (ATU-K). Building on major theoretical perspectives on the structure of attitude and the attitude-behavior link, we specified two sub-components each representing the cognitive and the affective dimension of people's attitude toward unification. In a survey that involved a stratified sample of Korean adults (N = 1,500), we found strong evidence showing the construct validity of the ATU-K scale. We also found evidence for the convergent and discriminant validity of the scale. In a second survey involving another stratified sample of 1,500 Korean adults, we found the utility of the ATU-K scale in predicting people's intention to engage in unification-oriented behaviors (personal/collective). We also found that the ATU-K scale fares better in predicting the intention vis-a-vis the other measures of unification-related beliefs reported in previous research. We discuss implications of our findings and directions for future research.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the zero-sum belief scale among a sample of Korean adults. The original scale was developed by Różycka-Tran, Boski, and Wojciszke (2015) based on the Belief in a Zero-Sum Game (BZSG) model. A total of 508 participants (252 college students and 256 non-student adults) completed an online survey comprised of the scales of zero-sum belief, social trust, subjective socioeconomic status, individualistic-collectivistic tendencies, and social comparison orientation. Results of the exploratory factor analysis and the confirmatory factor analysis indicated that zero-sum belief scale has one factor. The internal consistency of the zero-sum belief scale was good. The Zero-sum belief scale did not have a significant relationship with social trust and subjective socioeconomic status. However, the scale was positively associated with vertical individualistic and vertical collectivistic tendencies and negatively associated with horizontal collectivistic tendencies. There was no significant relationship between zero-sum belief and horizontal individualistic tendencies, but there was a significant positive relationship between zero-sum belief and social comparison orientation. However, the results from the college student sample and the non-student adult sample were different. Lastly, this study could facilitate future research on zero-sum belief in South Korea, and future studies are needed to reveal the predictors and effects of zero-sum belief.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to quantitatively assess the degree of Graves' Disease affecting mental health through the results of multiphasic military personality inventory (MPI) in 19-year-old men. Methods : We collected and analyzed the results of the MPI for 592 healthy subjects and 148 Graves' disease patients among the 19-year-old men who visited the Military Manpower Administration from February 2008 to January 2010. Results : Among demographic characteristics, both Graves' disease and control group are 19-year-old men. Educational level, socioeconomic status, parental relationship, and BMI were not statistically different between the two groups (χ2=0.089, p=0.766; χ2=5.090, p=0.278; χ2=5.988, p=0.112 ; t=-0.635, p=0.526). In the MPI, among validity scales, the score of the faking-good subscale was significantly lower in the Graves' group (t=3.507, p<0.001), but in the faking-bad and infrequency subscales scores were not significantly different between two groups (t=-1.700, p=0.090; t=-0.519, p=0.604). Among the neurosis scale, anxiety, depression, somatization, and personality disorder subscale scores were all significantly higher in Graves' disease group (t=-3.323, p<0.001; t=-4.210, p<0.001; t=-6.202, p<0.001; t=-2.872, p<0.01). Among the psychopath scale, each score of schizophrenia and paranoia subscales were not statistically different between the two groups (t=-0.158, p=0.874; t=-0.846, p=0.398). Conclusions : According to MPI result, we can confirm that Graves' disease patients in 19-year-old-men may appear features such as anxiety, depression, somatization and personality tendency (introversion or impulsivity) than the control group.
The purpose of this study was to examine mathematical performance predictions with gifted behavior ratings by teachers and parents. The participants of this study were 787 elementary 5th and 6th grade gifted students who took the mathematical performance test. This study asked gifted teachers and parents to rate gifted behaviors of these gifted students with using SRBCSS-R (Renzulli et al., 2002, 2009). The results indicated that gifted teachers rated gifted behaviors of the 5th grade gifted students higher than the 6th grade gifted students, except in 'mathematical characteristics.' Gifted teachers rated 'learning' gifted behaviors of male gifted students higher than those of female gifted students. In the meanwhile, parents of the 5th grade gifted students rated gifted behaviors higher than parents of the 6th grade gifted students in 'learning' and 'motivation.' In comparing the gifted behavior ratings by gifted teachers and parents, there were significant differences in 'learning' and 'motivation' ratings. That is, gifted teachers rated significantly higher 'learning' and 'motivation' of gifted students than parents. When this study explored the prediction of gifted behavior ratings by gifted teachers and parents on mathematical performances of gifted students, 'learning' and 'mathematical characteristics' ratings by gifted teachers predicted the mathematical performances of gifted students.
The purpose of this study was to develop an electroencephalogram (EEG) based differential-scale for scientifically gifted students in elementary school. For this study, signals of EEG with 19 channels were recorded during the generation of our scientific hypothesis using 22 scientifically gifted students, and with 49 average students being used as the control group. IQ, TCT and knowledge generation (KG) as constructs of the scientifically gifted were administered for both the scientifically gifted and the normal, control group elementary students. A 'gifted' value was added to paper test scores of the IQ, TCT, and KG constructs in order to make a personal standardization score for the gifted students. As a dependent variable, the groups were divided by means of the standardization scores thus produced and as an autonomous variable, various EEG parameters were presented through linear analysis, nonlinear analysis, and interdependency measures of the EEG. Multiple linear regression analysis was applied successfully to explain the EEG parameters and to show the characteristics of the scientifically-gifted. The discrimination analysis was administered through the results of multiple linear regression of the EEG parameters thus produced. This study represents the foundation of the development of an EEG based discriminant-scale for scientifically gifted students in elementary school, because it will be able to faithfully discriminate between scientifically-gifted and average students. The results of this study indicates that most of the EEG parameters produced can contribute to predicting the characteristics of the scientifically-gifted in that they express the degree of mutual information and the coherence of mutuality. Accordingly, mutual connectivity which appears to originate in the brain seems to the core of discrimination.
This study is to look into the effectiveness of fall-preventive occupational therapy of elderly by clarifying the influence of occupational therapy applied to female elderly in the community upon balance ability. A 6-week occupational therapy program including both training and exercise for prevention of fall down was applied by dividing into 13 persons of experimental group and 13 persons of control group for female elderly aged more than 65 years who were capable of independence gait and have not taken any drug to adversely affect balance. For balance ability assessment, the Berg balance scale and the Tetrax fall index were used. The Berg balance scale in experimental group was shown to be 48.38 to 50.69 through the 6-week program, indicating changes in significance level(p=.017). The Tetrax fall index in experimental group was shown to be 46.77 to 35.54 through the 6-week program(p=.000). Changes in significance level were not found for both the Berg balance scale and the Tetrax fall index in control group. As seen from the results of this study, it is found that 6-week application of the fall-preventive occupational therapy program including fall prevention training and exercise was effective for promotion of elderly's balance ability, and further studies just on the effect of fall prevention training are required to be made.

Currently, most of the science and engineering students who enter the university are required to take general chemistry and general chemistry experimental subjects. However they have different learning bases about learning basic science subjects. Regarding college entrance examinations, the current system is used for selection, so they have different levels of basic knowledge. But, without considering this situation, all of the students in science and engineering are participating in the same basic science class, some learners are relatively easy to adapt to learning, while others experience extreme difficulties and suddenly give up. This is true. The purpose of this study is to develop a scale to measure the ability to learn general chemistry of freshmen in science and engineering at H University in the Seoul Metropolitan area and to analyze what kind of learning backgrounds are related to learners. The results show that gender and major are not related to general chemistry learning major, and it we found that there is a close relationship to the relationship between their major and chemistry, the level of the chemistry learning in the high school, and the selection of chemistry in college entrance examinations. In addition, it was found that the degree of feeling that pre-learning is beneficial to current learning and that it is common with current learning is also a factor related to general chemistry learning aptitude. Therefore, in this study, we propose two ways of presenting and promoting a guide for learning by majors, and establishing a step-by-step learning system considering the level of students.
