An Analysis of Satisfaction on the Essential Curriculum: Focusing on J University Case (교양필수 교과목에 대한 만족도 분석: J대학 사례를 중심으로)

  • In this study, we examined the satisfaction level of J university's compulsory liberal arts subject with quantitative research. The results quantitative research are as follows. First, men are more interested in creative thinking, college life guidance and career path design than girls. Second, the level of satisfaction with the required liberal arts subject by grade was found to be without a statistical significant difference. Third, the satisfaction level of each line of learning was shown in the order of natural engineering, health and welfare, physical fitness, and humanities. The satisfaction level of the lines of learning was found to vary. Fourth, The satisfaction level of each campus was found to vary. The results of this study could be used as basic data to improve the college liberal arts curriculum, especially the compulsory liberal arts curriculum. A Study on Non-Majors Students' Perception of the SW Liberal Education in University (대학의 비전공자 SW교양교육에 관한 인식 연구)

  • Recently, there is an increasing number of universities in which SW education is operated as a liberal arts education regardless of major. In this paper, the survey is conducted to analysis the factors affecting the non-majors students' perception of the necessity of SW education through a case study of SW liberal arts by gender, college, and SW learning experience. As a result, men, students of social science college, and students with SW learning experience strongly agreed that SW education for non-majors is essential. 'SW education is very helpful in studying my major' was analyzed as a necessary condition of SW education for non-majors. Especially, the difficulty of SW learning did not affect the recognition of the necessity of non-majors SW education. If the SW liberal education is based on the SW technology that helps their major, it will be expected that the improved learning motivation due to majors-relevance will deepen a consensus on SW education.

  • It is required that university students acquire information technology in order to adapt to the information society. Therefore, it is inevitable for universities to provide students with an effective curriculum to improve IT fluency. The purpose of this study is to analyze the content of the informatics learning programs in universities in Korea in terms of IT fluency which is defined by National Academy of Science NRC99. Based on the information that the Academy Information Center announced, the content analysis was carried out from September 2010 to June 2011. According to the result of the analysis, 84 of 201 universities provide the informatics education as a mandatory course. 29 of them mainly provide the programs about word processors, spreadsheet, and presentation that are regarded as contemporary skills. These programs cover the fundamental concept, but the contents which require intellectual capabilities are rarely addressed. Moreover, the informatics education has mainly focused on elementary and secondary education. In this sense, it is valid to analyze the contents and current states of the informatics learning programs required in higher education.

Exploring the direction of granular basic-software education considering the major of college students (대학생의 전공계열을 고려한 세분화된 기초SW교육 방향 탐색)

  • Computer education in universities has been expanded and specialized from ICT-based education in recent years to software education such as computational thinking and programming. Especially, as the 4th Industrial Revolution is emphasized in all fields of society, software education, which is its core, is being applied as an essential liberal arts course in universities. In the case of basic SW education for all students, it is necessary to provide differentiated education that is suitable for students because their special characteristics are different. In this study, we conducted a basic SW course for general liberal arts at A-university in Seoul and analyzed the survey data from 4,927 students for about 3 years, and classified the major series and searched the appropriate education method for each subdivided group. Through the analysis, we were able to find characteristic groups such as business and commerce, art and sports major. Finally, six groups for basic-SW education are presented. Educational directions such as programming language and level of difficulty setting suitable for differentiated education are presented for each group.

  • The purpose of this study was focused on finding out the effect of "Learning Strategies and Career Development" classes for first year student. To this end, I developed the learning portfolio based instructional method, textbook, learning portfolio, teaching guidebook and teaching materials. For the study, I conducted literature reviews, analysis of domestic and international best practices, expert advices and survey researches. This study implemented on 3,200 freshman and 72 professors of A university that is located at Gyungbuk. The results of applying research findings show that learning portfolio based instruction in "Learning Strategies and Career Development" classes is useful to improve first year students' competency of learning strategies and career search. And instructors can use the learning portfolio, teaching guidebook and teaching materials, therefore they are satisfied with the materials.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine satisfaction with liberal education at H university. In particular, the study is interested in students' and satisfaction with the courses of and , compulsory liberal studies. As a result of analysis, students were most satisfied with 'the percentage of liberal studies credits', being followed by 'the number of students per liberal studies class' and 'the systemicity of curriculum.' The survey also showed that, in and , students were highly satisfied with 'chance for communication with native faculty, improvement of ral expression skills' and 'improvement of orthography and grammar skill and so on. With regard to items whose satisfaction were low, the survey showed that there was the lack of connectivity between liberal studies and employment in 3 categories in common. Therefore, a direction toward enhancement of efficiency in connection with career center and the like was required in addition to establishing, developing and specifying employment category in liberal studies.

  • 정보이용능력은 정보화 사회를 살아가는데 있어서 필수적으로 갖추어야할 높은 수준의 일반지식이 되고 있으며, 대학과 대학도서관에서 학생 개개인이 정보이용능력을 가질 수 있도록 교육하는 것이 중요해 지고 있다. 본 연구는 국내 대학에서 교양과목으로 실시되고 있는 정보이용능력교육의 실태를 조사하고, 그 교육 내용의 타당성을 표준 지침과의 비교를 통해 살펴보고자 한다. 연구를 위해 8개 대학의 정보이용능력교육 현황(강의 주체, 과목명, 강의 방식, 강의 장소, 평가)을 조사하고, 강의계획서를 중심으로 교육 내용을 ACRL 표준과 비교하여 보았다.

Effect Analysis of the SW Curriculum Reorganization for Non-CS Students on the Class Satisfaction (비전공자 대상 SW교육과정 개편이 수업만족도에 미친 영향분석)

  • 본 연구는 H대학에서 비전공자 대상 교양필수 SW 교육과정을 프로그래밍 중심으로 개편한 2015년 이후 3개년도와 이전 3개 년도의 수업만족도에서 차이가 나는가에 대해 비교분석하여 개편 후 비전공자 대상 SW교육과정의 효과성을 파악하고자 한다. H대학은 2015년 교양 SW교육과정을 프로그래밍 중심으로 개편하였다. 개편 전후 수업 만족도의 변화가 있었는가? 라는 연구문제를 기반으로 분석한 결과, 개편 후 3년간 수업만족도는 개편 전 3년보다 높게 나타났으며, 1학기보다는 2학기 교과목들의 수업만족도 편차가 더 크게 나타났다. 1학기 만족도는 유의수준 10%에서 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 2학기 만족도는 유의수준 5%에서 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이것은 개편 후 다양한 프로그래밍 언어 중 선택할 수 있도록 교과과정을 제공한 것이 원인인 것으로 파악된다.
