  • This study aimed to assess trends in the prevalence, treatment, and control of diabetes according to the socio-economic level in Korean adults aged ${\geq}30$ years, using the 2007-2017 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data. Socio-economic status was assessed based on the household income. Multivariable logistic regression and predictive margins were used to evaluate the adjusted proportion of diabetes prevalence, awareness, treatment, and adequate glycemic control. During 2007-2017, the socio-economic inequalities on diabetes prevalence were observed in both men and women. However, the gradient of inequality increased only in men (p for interaction=0.034). Diabetes awareness, treatment, and control did not show socio-economic inequalities or increasing gradients in both sexes. Monitoring of these trends should be continued, and further research on effective interventions is needed.

  • Oxytocin (Oxt) and vasopressin (Avp) are mainly synthesized in neuronal cells of the hypothalamus and are released from the posterior pituitary. The structure and sequences of Oxt and Avp genes imply that they are closely related and that they are the result of a duplication event during evolution. A previous study suggested that a small regulatory microRNA (miRNA), miR-24, regulated Oxt after binding. However, it is not clear whether this miRNA can modulate Avp simultaneously. The aim of the present study was to investigate putative targeting miRNAs of Avp, including miR-24. Targeted candidate miRNA oligonucleotides were transfected into COS-7 cells to elucidate the binding activity of miRNAs and Avp using dual-luciferase assays. The luciferase assay showed that only miR-24 displayed elevated binding activity with Avp as compared to a control and other candidate miRNAs. Transfection with seed mutants of Avp and miR-24 inhibitors clearly showed that miR-24 can directly bind to the Avp gene. These results provide new insight into the regulatory mechanism of neurohypophysial hormones by a single miRNA.

  • This study is to investigate many kinds of conceptual models of social problem solving approach as well as decision making method, and then describes educational implications, especially for more effective method of teaching problem solving ability in order to reduce children' anti social behaviors and to be able to have their healthy and happy lives. Problem solving ability or decision making skills have been taken to goal of primary school curriculum, but is too cognitive or too centered to morality for student to get that kinds of skill or competency. As a result of new education method is developed on the basis of Socal Emotional Learning(SEL) as well as Emotional Intelligence which put on the importance on the role of emotion in the problem solving. This method have two distinctions. First, It has the background of culture specific views of emotion to be proper this method in our society. Second, It should be integrated into moral education as a part of school curriculum to establish secure and long term intervention.

  • BCBS (Broad Conceptualization of Beauty Scale) is a measurement tool designed to evaluate the standards of an individual's inner beauty. In this study, reliability and feasibility were verified for 100 female college students using the final Korean version BCBS 9 questions that were formed through the adaptation process. As a result of checking the internal consistency to verify the reliability of Korean version BCBS, it showed high reliability with Cronbach's 𝜶 0.878, subjective beauty 0.874, physical beauty 0.808 and psychological beauty 0.880. As a result of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to verify feasibility of Korean version BCBS, feasibility was secured by showing significant results in all items. Therefore, through this study, the Korean version BCBS was proved to be a useful measurement tool that comprehensively evaluates the concept of women's broad scale beauty, and using this as basic data, it is believed that it can be used for professional development and research on internalized beauty for female college students.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate suicidal behaviors and the related psychopathology across the different stages of schizophrenia. Methods: We recruited 131 patients with schizophrenia and categorized them into two groups, according to the duration of illness (DI) as follows: ≤10 years (n=39) and >10 years (n=92). Psychopathology and suicidality were assessed using the 18-item Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS-18) and the suicidality module from the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview, respectively. Results: One-quarter of the patients with a DI ≤10 years and nearly one-sixth of the patients with a DI >10 years experienced suicidal behaviors in the previous month. Suicidality scores were significantly associated with the "affect" factor scores of the BPRS-18 in patients with a DI ≤10 years (β=0.55, p=0.003) and with the "resistance" factor scores in patients with a DI of >10 years (β=0.29, p=0.006). Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that psychopathological factors were differentially associated with suicidality in patients with schizophrenia according to the illness stage. Our findings suggest that for effective suicide prevention, different approaches are required for the management of each stage of schizophrenia.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the individual and regional risk factors on depression using community-based data in Jeollabuk-do. Methods: This cross-sectional study obtained data from the Community Health Survey 2018 in Jeollabuk-do. The dependent variable was depression measured by Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). The prevalence of depression was defined if total score of PHQ-9 was 10 or higher. A multilevel analysis was conducted to consider individual and regional level independent variables that could be risk factors for depression. Results: In the individual level, female gender and smokers had significantly higher odds ratios (ORs) for depression of 1.58 and 1.72, respectively. Subjects with economic activity, higher income and higher education had significantly lower ORs of 0.53, 0.41 and 0.66. In the regional level, higher greening rates and lower levels of PM2.5 had statistically lower ORs at the significance level of 10%. Conclusion: By conducting this study, risk factors associated with depression were identified in individual- and regional-level. This study suggests that health projects are needed to control regional level risk factors including community networks for mental health management in addition to the traditional individual level risk factors.

  • The purpose of this study was to ascertain the differences in social distancing practices by socioeconomic characteristics according to the national campaign on strong social distancing from March 22 through April 19. The data were obtained from the online survey performed by Embrain from May 13 through May 19. The sample consisted of 1,117 adults aged between 19 and 69. The campaign included six rules: to postpone or cancel unnecessary meeting, to refrain from going out, to keep personal hygiene, to stay home when sick, to ventilate frequently. Social distancing scores were defined as the proportion of items observed on a scale of 10. The multivariate regression analysis showed that type of housing and type of working were significantly related to social distancing scores. Study results imply that customized campaigns are needed for those from lower socioeconomic status.

  • This study proposes a method to assist webtoon artists in the process of webtoon creation by utilizing a pretrained Text-to-Image model to generate webtoon images from text. The proposed approach involves fine-tuning a pretrained Stable Diffusion model using a webtoon dataset transformed into the desired webtoon style. The fine-tuning process, using LoRA technique, completes in a quick training time of approximately 4.5 hours with 30,000 steps. The generated images exhibit the representation of shapes and backgrounds based on the input text, resulting in the creation of webtoon-like images. Furthermore, the quantitative evaluation using the Inception score shows that the proposed method outperforms DCGAN-based Text-to-Image models. If webtoon artists adopt the proposed Text-to-Image model for webtoon creation, it is expected to significantly reduce the time required for the creative process.
