  • The discovery method is known to be the most effective in improving students' mathematical thinking. Recently, the long-term slow thinking(LST) is suggested as a possible method to implement the discovery method into the real classroom. In this concept, we examined whether students can solve such a problem, as appears to be beyond their ability, by themselves(LST) or not. 10 middle school students of the ninth grade were selected for the study, who had no previous experience on the infinite concept of calculus of the high school course. They had tried to solve a problem about the calculus by their LST for three days. Two of students solved the problem by themselves and seven of students solved it with help of hints. This result shows that if students are given the opportunity of LST for rather difficult mathematical problem with appropriate guidance of a teacher, they might solve it by themselves. That is, LST could be a possible method for implementation of the discovery method.

  • New teaching and learning theory on various aspects about class is needed to implement education which reflects constructivism, ideally. For an ideal learner-centered mathematics class, tangible and intangible elements related to education(view of knowledge, view of leaner, teacher's role, evaluation, the form of class, learning, teaching material, etc.) should be integrated from a constructive perspective and especially, teaching material has to be premised on that learners have intellectual abilities to construct knowledge themselves, and reflect integrity of knowledge, diversity and others, and contain open attributes. In addition to this, teaching material should have characteristics different from those when objective epistemology applies, so there is a need to analyze whether teaching material has those characteristics. For this, this study compared and analyzed <1. Three-Digit Numbers> which belongs to the domain of numbers and operations out of the units of mathematics(3) textbook of the 2009 revised curriculum for the first and second grade that first introduced story-telling, and <3. Understanding of Place Values> for the second grade of constructive math class used in the U.S.

  • The value of Web in information societyis increasing in the field of education. Web Based Instruction (WBI) has an unlimited possibility of access the information. It also overcome the constraint of time and space more than the previous class learning method. The previous WBI system informed the results of study to learners after a professor's lecture and test was given. The uniform test didn't make the professor recognize the learner's evaluation according to the level of the learner and it couldn't be a reason to change a teaching method. In this paper, we discuss the Learning Evaluation(LE) component which can support a teaching method to teachers. We suggest LE component for supporting teachers as suggesting visually the test result of pre-test by step and post-test with several ways after analyzing, designing and realizing the evaluation of the test based on CDP(Component Development Process).

  • This paper presents an overview of theories about ethnomathematics to seek for implications for multicultural mathematics education. Initiated by anthropological inquiries into mathematics outside of Europe, research of ethnomathematics has revealed the facets of mathematics as a historicocultural construct of a community. Specifically, it has been shown that mathematics is culturally relative knowledge system situated within a certain communal epistemological norms. This implies that indigenous mathematics, which had traditionally been regarded as primitive and marginal knowledge, is a historicocultural construct whose legitimacy is conferred by the system of the communal epistemological norms. The recognition of the cultural facets in mathematics has faciliated the reconsideration of what is legitimate mathematics. what is mathematical competence, and what teaching and learning mathematics is an about. This paper inquires multicultral discourses of mathematics education that research of ethnomathematics provides and identifies its implications concerning multicultural mathematics education.

  • This study aims to explore efficient foreign language learning paradigm with a focus on reading fluency and accuracy. From a perspective of language acquisition in the foreign language context, the priority in the L2 learning between accuracy and fluency has been a very important issue. Fluency becomes an important issue due to many researchers' interests in the L1 and L2 classroom. Although both accuracy and fluency are crucial, the paradigm shift from fluency to accuracy is necessary in the foreign language teaching. In this context, as an alternative methodology for L2 learners' fluency, the extensive reading approach is provided. A number of studies have suggested that extensive reading program could lead to improvement of L2 learners' reading rate and is an effective approach to improving general language proficiency.

  • This paper aims to investigate in what extent subject-centered clusters are different from one another in terms of message system, which is composed of curriculum, pedagogy and evaluation. For this, Bernstein's pedagogic transmission code(i.e., classification and framing) and school typology(i.e., open-type or close-type) have been explored, and then applied into Shimin Junior School, Japan, in order to find out substantial characteristics between subject-centered clusters. In this case study, VGA(visibility graph analysis), as one of syntactical methodologies in space syntax theory, has been used to measure to what degree they are actually different. Throughout in-depth investigation of spatial configurations, it can be said that the square of clusters is strongly connected and integrated very well, so that it acts as an anchor place for school life within a cluster. However, it works in different ways according to message systems. In the subjects like Japanese and Science whose message system are characterized by strong classification and strong framing, integration values are relatively low, and this means that it is hard to expect cross-referencing activities through the subject squares. On the contrary, the subject of Social Studies defined by weak classification and weak framing shows the highest mean integration values, and this can be expected that there are inter-changeable learning activities in the square.

  • Objective : Describe the phenomenon of "clear qi below, turbid qi above" as found in the Somun Eumyangeungsangdaelon (Major Essay on Yinyang Resonances and Appearances 素問 陰陽應象大論) and compare this pattern with water-grain dysentery and flatulence symptom patterns in the Sanghallon (Treatise on Cold Damage). Method : Study the annotation of the Hwangjenaegyeong (Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic 黃帝內經) and compare the results with the Sanghallon's water-grain dysentery and flatulence. Conclusions and Results : The causes of water-grain dysentery and flatulence are associated with the ascending and descending properties of Yin and Yang. Additionally, these symptoms can also be caused by pathogenic heat, turbid pathogenic factors, and interruption of the movement of clear and turbid qi. Aspects of water-grain dysentery resemble several patterns found in the Sanghallon. If caused by a weakness of yang qi, it resembles Sayeoktang (四逆湯) syndrome. Weakness of spleen qi resembles Ijungtang (理中湯) syndrome. Flatulence is similar to fullness in the chest syndrome, which in the Sanghallon is caused by an obstruction of cold qi. If there is excessive cold, water-grain dysentery is similar to the syndrome of Gyeolhyung (結胸). If the qi is not scattered, deficiency syndrome is similar to Gyejigejagyaktang (桂枝去芍藥湯) syndrome and excess syndrome is similar to Mahwangtang (麻黃湯) syndrome. When flatulence is caused by fever in chest, it is similar to Chijasitang (梔子?湯) syndrome. When caused by heat and phlegm build up in chest, it is similar to Sipjotang (十棗湯) syndrome.

  • Objectives This is the review on the Jeolgyeong which means diagnosis method of meridian and acupoints. Detecting method of meridian and acupoints under the disease condition using fingertips were more developed in Japan than in China and Korea. This study is the introduction to the Japanese style palpation method on meridian and acupoints. Methods Firstly the textbook 'Acupuncture medicine' published by the committee of Korean professors' association of acupuncture and moxibustion was analyzed. Especially the contents of the palpation method on meridian and acupoints were focused and summarized and secondly the book describing the palpation method on meridian and acupoints was selected, translated and summarized. Results Until now the knowledge on the acupoints reaction depending on the patient's status, the deficiency pattern and the excessive pattern was rarely described in China and Korea. On the contrary, 4 kinds of reactions in the deficiency pattern and 4 kinds of reactions in the excessive pattern were well described in Japanese literatures. Mild touching, mild pinching, rubbing, mild pressing and severe pressing were also described along the meridians. Except the bladder meridian Back Shu points, Yuan points, Luo points, Xi(cleft) points, Front Mu points were depicted as the same as those in China and Korea. For the bladder meridian lines, 4 lines were organized including 2 lines of Hua-Tuo-Jia-Ji-Xue and the middle line between 1st and 2nd bladder meridian line as well as 1st bladder meridian line and 2nd bladder meridian line. Conclusions Detecting meridians or acupoints and using them for diagnosis and treatment is a method used in China, Korea, and Japan. However, detailed descriptions of the method for detecting meridians through palpation are revealed in Japanese books. Palpation methods for diagnosing meridians using touching, pinching, rubbing, and pressing methods are expected to be standardized and systematically learned in Korea.

  • 'Transference phenomenon' is considered as a essential feature in psychotherapy as well as psychoanalysis. But there is much difference in conceptual and methodological issues for 'transference phenomenon' among various psychoanalytical schools. In general, the depth psychological studies for 'transference phenomenon' are mainly from the psychoanalytical view of point but relatively sparse from the analytical psychological view of point which has more holistic and deeper understanding for human psyche. So this article was intended for a comprehensive review of 'transference phenomenon' from the perspective of analytical psychology and tried to make an understanding for its meaning. To begin with, the concept of 'transference phenomenon' was investigated from the view before Jung and after Jung, with Jung's view in the center. Then it was made clear that 'transference phenomenon' from the perspective of analytical psychology could be understood by several characteristic aspects. It was suggested that a careful study on the symbolic meaning of the woodcuts' pictures in Rosarium Philosophorum including a proper interpretation of its posterior part to which Jung didn't refer in "The Psychology of The Transference" be devoted to the genuine understanding of 'transference phenomenon' from the perspective of analytical psychology afterwards.
