Dam slope RIM is a highly important contact interface where the main body and the base surface are connected. In general, when the grouting for the slope of the dam structure is designed, it is planned using limited data (drilling, geological map, etc.). This makes it very difficult to accurately consider the original ground characteristics of the slope RIM grouting target, In addition, when the grouting volume planned during the design is drilled and injected into the original ground where the waterstop is secured, there is a possibility that the original ground with the waterstop is disturbed and the effect of the waterstop is rather diminished. In order to overcome such problems, it is more suitable to first consider geological conditions and determine whether to perform optimal grouting on the original ground through on-site repair tests before performing RIM grouting. In this paper, to determine the grouting of the RIM unit, a pilot hole water pressure test was performed on the rock of the slope in the target section. The analysis shows grouting volume of 1 Lugeon or less, and the cement injection amount also shows the injection result of 1 kg/m or less. In this case, performing grouting is rather counterproductive. This result can be evaluated through a rock of which some degree of order of mass is secured, as it is a dam design standard of 1 Lugeon or less when analyzed, using the results of visual observation and geological map creation during slope cutting. Therefore, in conclusion, it is preferable to make the decision for using RIM grouting on the slope of the dam body structure, based on 1 Lugeon in a rock state, and the cement injection amount also at 1 kg/m.

Hypochaeris radicata, native to Europe and Eurasia, is a perennial plant of the Asteraceae family. In Korea, H. radicata was reported in 1992, mainly in Jeju Island, and gradually spreading to the inland. It overwinters in the form of a rosette and blooms yellow flowers from May to June. H. radicata propagates by seeds and rhizomes. The germination temperature of the seed is 15/20℃ (day/night), and the rhizome forms a new plant at a depth of 2-3cm in the soil. The roots of H. radicata secrete allelochemicals that inhibit the development of other plants. Some use it as a salad or forage substitute but to a limited extent. However, extensive research on ampicillin contained in H. radicata has been conducted, and its anticancer and anti-inflammatory effects have been recognized. There are only a few methods to manage H. radicata both culturally and physically. In orchards, soil treatments such as oxyfluorfen and diclobenil, or nonselective foliar treatments such as glufosinate-ammonium and glyphosate are used. Notably, there are no known biological control agents.
This study aimed to provide ecological information by identifying the stand characteristics of Larix kaempferi forest vegetation (deforestation, forest influence, patch, forest) for aggregated retention harvest in Mt. Nambyeongsan, Pyeongchang-Gun. Data were collected using the Braun-Blanquet vegetation survey method from July 2020, with 54 quadrats analyzed for importance value, species diversity, similarity index, and detrended correspondence analysis (DCA). The results showed that vine species had a higher importance value in the deforestation area and forest influence area. Forest regions had the highest species diversity (2.419), while the forest influence area had the lowest(2.171). The similarity index was highest between the forest region and patch area (0.723), and lowest between the patch area and forest influence area (0.658), which was consistent with the DCA results. In conclusion, although species diversity temporarily showed higher values in the initial stage after aggregated retention harvest, it was difficult to assign ecologically specific meanings to these values. Long-term monitoring is therefore necessary to accumulate ecological information on aggregated retention harvests.

Seasonal quantitative van Veen grab sampling was conducted to characterize the composition and structure of the benthic polychaete community inhabiting the shellfish farming ground of a coastal bay system of Jiniu Bay (Korea). A total of 132 polychaete species were identified and the polychaetes accounted for about $80\%$ of overall abundance of benthic animals. There was little significant seasonal difference in densities (abundances) of polychaetes, Maximum biomass was obseued in summer (August) and minimum value was recorded in winter (February) and spring (May). Conversely, diversity and richness were lowest in summer, indicating a seasonal variability in the polychaetous community structure, The cluster analysis indicated that such a seasonal variability resulted mainly from the appearance of a few small, r-selected opportunists in spring and the tubiculous species of the family Maldanidae in summer. On the other hand, several indicator species for the organically enriched environments such as Capitelia capitata, Notoniashs Jatericeus and hmbrineris sp. showed high densities during all the study period. Density and biomass of univariate measures of community structure were significantly lower in the arkshell-farming ground of the southern area than in the non-farming sites of the bay, A similar general tendency was also found in the spatial distributions of species diversity and richness. Principal component analysis revealed the existence of different groups of benthic assemblages between the arkshell-farming ground and non-farming sites, The lack of colonization of r-selected opportunists and/or tubiculous species in the former ground seemed to contribute to the spatial differences in the composition and structure of the polychaetous communities. Although finer granulometric composition and high sulfide concentration in sediments of the arkshell-farming ground and low salinity in the northern area were likely to account for parts of the differences, other environmental variables observed were unlikely. The spatial distribution of polychaetes in Jiniu Bay may be rather closely related to the sedimentary disturbance by selection of shells for harvesting in spring.

This is a research on development of water purification equipment called artificial floating island (=AFI) for the stagnant water area which can secure exuberant landscape and water-friendility. The equipment devised in this study is designed to make up the weakness of conventional AFIs and improves the removal efficiency of pollutants using the mixture of media and plants. The air compressor positioned at the inlet releases air with inflow continuously, the water pump at the outlet sprays as a form of fountain with causing a disturbance on stable water column, then, both of them contribute improvement of water quality over a large area. We applied Bio-stone as a media in this system and performed an experiment of pre-efficiency test, and we concluded that the higher pollutants concentration of inflow, the higher removal efficiency we obtained. At the result of lab-scale experiment, in the case of high-concentration inflow, in the removal efficiency of SS is 62.2%, BOD is 50.2%, COD is 55.1%, T-N is 31.6%, T-P is 38.4%. In addition, to evaluate the field application, we set up the facilities in Sin-gal lake located in Yongin-Si Gyeonggi-Do, and researched on the removal efficiency of outflow relative to the inflow. As a result, SS is 53.5%, BOD is 32.8%, COD is 36.9%, T-N is 22.6%, T-N is 33.2%.
Although some phytoes rogens might have beneficiary rather than adverse effects, most endocrine disrupting compounds(EDCs) are considered to be harmful to human and wildlife health through interfering the endocrine system. Previously we found that prepubertal exposure to genistein(GS), a well-known isoflavone phytoestrogen, could activate the reproductive system of immature female rats resulting precocious puberty. Interestingly, di(2-ethyl hexyl) phthalate(DEHP) exposure brought inverse result, a delayed puberty, in the same experimental regimen. In this study, we examined whether prepubertal exposure to GS or DEHP affect the gene expressions of estrogen receptors($ER\;{\alpha}$ and $ER\;{\beta}$) and LH receptor(LHR) which represent the maturational status of ovary and uterus in immature rats. GS (100 mg/kg/day) was administered daily from postnatal day 25 to the day when the first vaginal opening(VO) was observed, and the animals were sacrificed on the next day(day 32). Similarly, DEHP(l00 mg/kg/day) was administered daily from postnatal day 25 through the day when the first V.O. in control group was observed, and the animals were sacrificed on the next day(day 36). To determine the transcriptional changes in the hormone receptors, total RNAs were extracted from ovary and uterus and were applied to semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). In the GS group, the transcriptional activities of $ER\;{\alpha}$, $ER\;{\beta}$ and LHR in uterus and LHR in ovary were significantly increased when compared to those of control group. In the DEHP group, the transcriptional activities of all the hormone receptors measured were significantly lowered when compared to those of control group. These alteration of the reproductive hormone receptor expressions in ovary and uterus might be represent the phenotypic aspects(secondary sexual characteristics) such as tissue weights and reproductive hormone levels during perinatal period in immature female rats.

A previous study showed that krill oil improved recognition and memory through anti-oxidative effects in an amyloid β model, but the authors noted that further investigations are necessary of alterations to neurotransmitters' states and of serum lipid profile improvements related to serum lipid peroxidation. Accordingly, in this study, ICR mice were pre-treated intraperitoneally with scopolamine prior to induced neurotransmission impairment, and the effects of krill oil provision on their capabilities of cognition were tested by performing a passive avoidance test (PAT), water maze test (WMT), and novel object recognition test. Then, parameters including the acetylcholine (ACh) concentration, acetylcholinesterase activity (AChE), lipid peroxidation, serum lipid levels, and nerve cell proliferation were investigated. The results showed that krill oil improved the mice's abilities in recognition and memory as the times taken to complete the PAT and WMT were reduced compared to the mice in a comparison scopolamine-treated group. Krill oil produced an increased concentration of Ach, and this was accompanied by a decrease in AChE. As shown in a scopolamine-treated SH-SY5Y cell line, krill oil reduced the activity of AChE. Moreover, the suppression of lipid peroxidation-reflected in the finding that malondialdehyde was decreased with krill oil provision-is speculated to affect the recorded serum triglyceride and cholesterol decreases and LDL cholesterol increase. The intake of krill oil was also found to produce an improvement in brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression by stimulating the activation of cyclic AMP response element binding protein in the brain tissue. Overall, the current results imply that the provision of krill oil raises the cognition and memory by elevating neurotransmitters and by improving the serum lipid profile and nerve cell proliferation, which occur as lipid peroxidation is suppressed in the brain tissue.

Recently, the consumption of nanomaterials has been significantly increased in both industrial and commercial sectors, as a result of steady advancement in the nano-technologies. This ubiquitous use of nanomaterials has brought up the concern that their exposure to environments may cause detrimental effects on human health as well as natural ecosystems, and it is required to characterize their behavior in various environmental media and to evaluate their ecotoxicity. For the sake of accomplishing those assessments, the development of methods to effectively separate them from diverse media and to quantify their properties should be requisitely accompanied. Among a number of separation techniques developed so far, this study focuses on Field-Flow Fractionation (FFF) because of its strengths, such as relatively less disturbance of samples and simple pretreatment, and we review overseas and domestic literatures on the separation of nanomaterials using the FFF technique. In particular, researches with Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (FlFFF) are highlighted due to its most frequent application among FFF techniques. The basic principle of the FlFFF is briefly introduced and the studies conducted so far are classified and scrutinized based on the sort of target nanomaterials for the purpose of furnishing practical data and information for the researchers struggling in this field. The literature review suggests that the operational conditions, such as pretreatment, selection of membrane and carrier solution, and rate (velocity) of each flow, should be optimized in order to effectively separate them from various matrices using the FFF technique. Moreover, it seems to be a prerequisite to couple or hyphenate with several detectors and analyzers for quantification of their properties after their separation using the FFF. However, its application has been restricted regarding the types of target nanomaterials and environmental media. Furthermore, domestic literature data on both separation and characterization of nanomaterials are extremely limited. Taking into account the overwhelmingly increasing consumption of nanomaterials, the efforts for the area seem to be greatly urgent.
There is relatively high vulnerability of soil erosion in slope highland agriculture due to a reclamation of mountain as well as low surface covering during early summer with high rainfall intensity. Especially, in soybean cultivation, soil disturbance by conventional tillage and exposure of topsoil at the early stage of soybean have intensified soil loss. The aim of this study was to evaluate various surface covering methods for reducing soil loss in highland soybean cultivation. The experiment was conducted in 17% sloped lysimeter ($2.5m{\times}13.4m$) with 8 treatments. Amount of runoff water and eroded soil, and soybean growth were investigated. Surface covering through sod culture and plant residue showed 3.4~45.0 runoff water amount with $177{\sim}2,375m^3\;ha^{-1}$ compared with control ($5,274m^3\;ha^{-1}$). And the amount of eroded soil was also reduced by 95% in surface covering treatment with $0.02{\sim}1.94Mg\;ha^{-1}$ than control with $40.72Mg\;ha^{-1}$. Yields of soybean pod showed $0.3Mg\;ha^{-1}$ in rye sod culture, $1.3Mg\;ha^{-1}$ in Ligularia fischeri var. spiciformis Nakai, $0.7Mg\;ha^{-1}$ in Aster koraiensis Nakai, $0.2Mg\;ha^{-1}$ in red clover and $2.0Mg\;ha^{-1}$ in non-covering, on the other hand, covering with cut rye showed $3.8Mg\;ha^{-1}$. Conclusively, covering the soil surface with cut rye were beneficial for reduction of soil loss without decreasing soybean yield in highland sloped fields.

This study was conducted to test the efficiency of water quality improvement using the dissolved air flotation (DAF) technique in a shallow eutrophic reservoir. The application of DAF was followed by the addition of a chemical coagulant (poly aluminum chloride; PAC). The experiment was conducted in the mesocosm scale (wide ${\times}$ length ${\times}$ depth: 6 m ${\times}$ 6 m ${\times}$ 3 m). Suspended solids (SS) and volatile SS (VSS) concentration decreased by 54 ${\sim}$ 71% and 57 ${\sim}$ 79% of the initial concentrations, respectively. Total phosphorus and Chl- a concentration also decreased by 74 ${\sim}$ 92% and 54 ${\sim}$ 98%, respectively. BOD decreased by>86% while COD decrease ranged 29 ${\sim}$ 63%. Dissolved inorganic P (DIP) and dissolved total P (DTP) concentration decreased by 34 ${\sim}$ 88% and 62 ${\sim}$ 88%, respectively. After DAF application further onto the sediment, DIP-release rates from the sediment decreased by 17% (0.82 ${\to}$ 0.68 mg $m^{-2}$$day^{-1}$ in the oxic condition and 23% (2.27 ${\to}$ 1.76 mg $m^{-2}$$day^{-1}$) in the anoxic condition, compared to the release rate from the untreated sediment. DTP-release rate from both the oxic and anoxic sediments also decreased by 33% (5.62 ${\to}$ 3.78 mg $m^{-2}$$day^{-1}$) and 20% (6.23 ${\to}$ 4.99 mg $m^{-2}$$day^{-1}$), respectively. These results suggest that the DAF application both to the water column and onto the sediment be effective to improve water quality by removing particulate matters in the water column as well as reducing P-release from the sediment.
