Generally, a steel pier-foundation has been designed and constructed with a anchor frame. However, because of the complicated design and construction, the foundation's size has become large and has been overdesigned. In this study, three specimens were made and the tests were conducted to suggest a new shape in regard to the pier-foundation's joint details using the high performance steel. One of the specimens was made up of the general anchors and the anchor frame. Another specimen consisted of the high tension anchors and the studs, and the other specimen was composed of the high tension anchors and the inner steels. After the performance of each specimen was compared and analyzed, the behavior characteristics according to the joint were analyzed.
This paper is a part of a research program to develop a new design method for reinforced concrete bridge columns under seismic loading. The objectives of this paper are to investigate the relationship between ductility and confinement steel amount and to propose a design equation for reinforced concrete bridge columns. Computer program NARCC was used for parametric study, which was proved to provide good and conservative analytical result especially for deformation capacity and ductility factor compared with test result. A total of 7,200 reinforced concrete columns confined with spirals or perfect circular hoops were selected by combination of variables such as section diameter, aspect ratio, concrete compressive strength, yielding strength of longitudinal and confinement steel, longitudinal steel ratio, axial load ratio, and confinement steel ratio. Based on the parametric study a new design equation for confinement steel amount considering ductility demand was proposed, which can be used in the new seismic design method, i.e. ductility-based seismic design, for RC bridge columns.
Most bridge piers were practically designed and constructed with lap spliced longitudinal reinforcing steels before the 1992 seismic design provisions of Korea Bridge Design Specification were implemented. It has been known that lap splice of longitudinal reinforcement in the plastic hinge region is not desirable for seismic performance of RC bridge piers. The objective of this research is to evaluate the seismic performance of existing circular reinforced concrete bridge piers by the Quasi-static test and to propose the need of seismic retrofit of existing bridge piers through the damage level. Test specimens were nonseismically designed with the aspect ratio 4.0 which could induce the flexural failure mode. It was confirmed from this experiment that significant reduction of seismic performance was observed for test specimens with lap spliced longitudinal reinforcing steels. Pertinent seismic retrofit was determined to be needed for existing RC bridge piers with the lap-spliced of $50\%$ longitudinal reinforcing steels.

In this paper, extensive structural behavior and effects of design parameters of steel column-base plate connections under axial and lateral loads were investigated to improve structural details of CFT(Concrete Filled Steel Tube) pier foundation using commercial FE analysis program, ABAQUS. For this study, design criteria of pier foundation was analyzed and numerical study based on the experiment of previous study was conducted to verify analysis methods. The failure behavior and stress distribution of pier foundation were analyzed using the verified analysis method. Various design parameters(base plate, deformed bar, stiffness and sizes of column) were investigated to analyze effects of each design parameters in entire structure.

This paper deals with the shaking table test(STT), the Quasi-Static Test(QST), and the Pseudo-Dynamic Test(PDT) to evaluate the seismic performance of RC bridge piers under near fault ground motion. Five scaled specimens were constructed the weight of the superstructure was applied through the prestressing strand at the centroid of the column section during the QST and PDT. However, the STT was simulated. The lateral inertia force of the superstructure by the mass frame which was linked with the pier because of the limited payload of shaking table. Particularly for the STT, friction underneath the mass frame was minimized by special details and it was verified by a series of pre-load test. Scale factor of the RC piers was 4.25.

Lap splices were located in the plastic hinge region of most bridge piers that were constructed before the adoption of the seismic design provision of Korea Highway Design Specification on 1992. This research aims at evaluating the seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge piers with lap-spliced longitudinal steels, which were strengthened with prestressed steel jacket in the plastic hinge region. Quasi-static test was used to investigate the seismic performance enhancement of RC test specimens. Conventional method applied mortar grouting inside steel jacket, but this research did not apply mortar grouting inside steel plate. Four test specimens in an aspect of 3.5 were constructed with 400 mm in diameter and 1600 mm in height. Test parameters are the lap splice of longitudinal reinforcing steels and thickness of steel jacket.

To improve the land use of urban, Construction of the circular steel column is required recently. The circular steel columns have a advantage for improving a load carrying rapacity as wall as reducing a effective section area. However, the circular steel columns under service load, such as earthquake, shows a tendency to cause local buckling and large deformation. To prevent these phenomena, use of longitudinal stiffeners is considered. The application of longitudinal stiffeners at the circular steel columns is expected to increase a load carrying capacity, buckling strength and seismic performance of circular steel column. However, increasing the loading carving rapacity of buckling which constructed the longitudinal stiffeners, was not investigated yet. Therefore it needs study on effect of longitudinal stiffener in pipe-section steel pier. In this study, the load rallying capacity of buckling of steel pier was investigated by using elastic-plastic finite element analysis considered geometrical and material non-linearity. Also, this study investigated the effect of longitudinal stiffeners on loading carrying capacity of buckling and the relationship between width and thickness of longitudinal stiffeners. And also, a Influence of longitudinal stiffeners on seismic performance of circular steel columns was investigated by numerical analysis

Three small scale hollow circular reinforced concrete columns(4.5 aspect ratio) were tested under cyclic lateral load with constant axial load. Diameter of section is 400 mm, hollow diameter is 200 mm. The selected test variable are transverse steel ratio. Volumetric ratio of spirals of all the columns is 0.302~0.604% in the plastic hinge region. It corresponds to 45.9~91.8% of the minimum requirement of confining steel by Korean Bridge Design Specifications, which represent existing columns not designed by the current seismic design specifications or designed by seismic concept. The final objectives of this study are to provide quantitative reference data and tendency for performance or damage assessment based on the performance levels such as cracking, yielding, steel fracture, etc. In this paper, describes mainly failure behavior, strength degradation behaviour, displacement ductility of circular reinforced concrete bridge columns with respect to test variables.
