CdZnS/ZnO composite was prepared through low-temperature precipitation and drying method. The property of CdZnS/ZnO as a recyclable photocatalyst for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation was examined. The sample was characterized by XRD, FE-SEM, XPS, UV-vis DRS and photoluminescence techniques before and after repeated reaction to investigate the change of properties during the photocatalytic reaction. During repeated reaction, the CdZnS/ZnO showed an improved photocatalytic activity and recycle stability. Among two feasible reaction pathways for photocatalytic degradation of RhB, the cleavage of conjugated chromophore was found to predominate over N-dealkylation of chromophore skeleton in the present work. The results indicate that the CdZnS/ZnO, prepared by a simple precipitation method, can be used as a visible-light driven photocatalyst with enhanced cycle stability and activity.
We have investigated the photocatalytic activity for the decomposition of methyl orange on the pure $LaCoO_3$ and metal ion doped $LaCoO_3$ perovskite-typeoxides prepared using microwave process. In the case of pure $LaCoO_3$ and cesium ion doped $LaCoO_3$ catalysts, the formation of the perovskite crystalline phase was confirmed regardless of the preparation method. From the results of UV-Vis DRS, the pure $LaCoO_3$ and cesium ion doped $LaCoO_3$ catalysts have the similar absorption spectrum up to visible region. The chemisorbed oxygen plays an important role on the photocatalytic decomposition of methyl orange and the higher the contents of chemisorbed oxygen, the better performance of photocatalyst.
There is evidence that the presence of active pharmaceutical ingredient (APIs) are a danger for aquatic ecosystems and the human health. The presence of APIs such as tetracycline, an antibiotic, in water causes antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in microorganisms inflicting enormous costs on individuals and society. Membranes embedded with catalysts such as TiO2 or bismuth based catalysts degrade and separate the organic effluents from wastewater. The photocatalytic activity of the catalysts can be enhanced with noble metal doping and addition of carbonaceous materials and formation of heterojunction with other semiconductors. The recollection of photoctalysts is possible through the immobilization of the photocatalysts in polymeric membranes. In this review, the degradation of antibiotics in water is discussed.
The immobilization technique is important to extend the application field of a photocatalyst. Titanium surface was changed into a $TiO_2$ thin film by the anodizing process. The anodized $TiO_2$ had photocatalytic activity, and showed sponge like shape. The photocatalytic degradation of gas phase acetaldehyde and VOCs by anodized titania has been studied in various initial concentrations, humidity and discharge potentials. The reactivity of anodized titania was increased with relative humidity, but excessive humidity led to a decrease of the reaction rate. The electric dark discharge that was combined with photocatalytic reaction enhanced the decomposition rate of the organic compounds. But excessively applied voltage caused corona discharge, which decreased the reaction rate. Optimum relative humidity was 40% and discharge potential was 5 kV under dark discharge region in photocatalytic reaction.
$N_2$ doped $TiO_2$ nano-sized powder was prepared using a DC arc plasma jet and investigated with XRD, BET, SEM, TEM, and photo-catalytic decomposition. Recently the research interest about the nano-sized $TiO_2$ powder has been increased to improve its photo-catalytic activity for the removal of environmental pollutants. Nitrogen gas, reacting gas, and titanium tetrachloride ($TiCl_4$) were used as the raw materials and injected into the plasma reactor to synthesize the $N_2$ doped $TiO_2$ power. The particle size and XRD peaks of the synthesized powder were analyzed as a function of the flow rate of the nitrogen gas. Also, the characteristics of the photo-catalytic decomposition using the prepared powder were studied. For comparing the photo-catalytic decomposition performance of $TiO_2$ powder with that of $TiO_2$ coating, $TiO_2$ thin films were prepared by the spin coating and the pulsed laser deposition. For the results of the acetaldehyde decomposition, the photo-catalytic activity of $TiO_{2-x}N_x$ powder was higher than that of the pure $TiO_2$ powder in the visible light region. For the methylene blue decomposition, the decomposition efficiency of $TiO_2$ powder was also higher than that of $TiO_2$ film.
Photocatalytic treatment of aqueous cyanide was studied using both commercial and home-made $TiO_2$'s as catalysts. Among the catalysts, $TiO_2$ made from $Ti(OC_3H_7)_4$ as a precursor showed the highest activity for the degradation of cyanide exceeding a commercial catalyst of Degussa P25. The difference in activities of the catalysts was mainly related to the surface properties of the catalysts such as the ratio of acidic to basic hydroxyl groups. For the catalyst which showed the highest activity, partially reduced $TiO_2$ showed better activity than calcined one.
Recently, there has been increasing demand for advancing photocatalytic techniques that are capable of the efficient removal of organic pollutants in water. TiO2, a representative photocatalytic material, has been commonly used as an effective photocatalyst, but it is rather expensive and an alternative is required that will fulfill the requirements of both high performing photocatalytic activities and cost-effectiveness. In this work, ZnO, which is more cost effective than TiO2, was synthesized by using a microreactor-assisted nanomaterials (MAN) process. The process enabled a continuous production of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) with a flower-like structure with high uniformity. In order to resolve the limited light absorption of ZnO arising from its large band gap, Ag NPs were uniformly decorated on the flower-like ZnO surface by using the MAN process. The plasmonic effect of Ag NPs led to a broadening of the absorption range toward visible wavelengths. Ag NPs also helped inhibit the electron-hole recombination by drawing electrons generated from the light absorption of the flower-like ZnO NPs. As a result, the Ag-ZnO nanocomposites showed improved photocatalytic activities compared with the flower-like ZnO NPs. The photocatalytic activities were evaluated through the degradation of methylene blue (MB) solution. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed the successful synthesis of Ag-ZnO nanocomposites with high uniformity. Ag-ZnO nanocomposites synthesized via the MAN process offer the potential for cost-effective and scalable production of next-generation photocatalytic materials.

In this study, the mechanical properties, absorption, and reduction performance of NOx in the mortar containing mineral admixture like zeolite and active hwangtoh were evaluated. Zeolite and active hwangtoh were used as binder, and zeolite and active hwangtoh were substituted for cement. The substitution ratio of two types of mineral admixtures was considered as 20 and 30% respectively. As a result of evaluating the compressive strength and flexural strength of each mortar specimen, the highest strength in the plain mixture was evaluated. As the substitution ratio of zeolite and active hwangtoh increased, the compressive and flexural strength decreased. In addition, the difference of compressive and flexural strength between active hwangtoh and zeolite mixing was evaluated to be insignificant. To evaluate the absorption rate, the mixture was designed to lower the W/B ratio of the existing mixture and set the substitution ratio of active hwangtoh and zeolite at 25%. The highest absorption ratio in the mortar with zeolite was evaluated, and the difference in absorption ratio between the remaining two mortar mixtures was small. The assessment of reduction performance of NOx considering the application of photocatalyst showed a clearly decreasing reduction behavior, even if they were the same mortar mixture. Zeolite and active hwangtoh also showed a higher NOx reduction than the Plain mixture, because of their porosity properties. In the case of active hwangtoh, the absorption ratio was lower than that of zeolite mixture, but the reduction of NOx performance was better than the result of zeolite mixture.

In this study, characteristics of visible-light responsive photocatalyst Weltouch, especially VOCs reduction of visible-light responsive photocatalyst coated nylon/polyester composite fiber for vehicle interior parts and materials were evaluated. Visible-light responsive photocatalyst Weltouch was observed for both anatase phase and rutile phase. It is activated by light longer than 420nm. VOCs and formaldehyde generated from visible-light responsive photocatalyst treated nylon/polyester composite fiber were reduced confirmly. Visible-light responsive photocatalyst was firmly attached to the surface of nylon/polyester composite fiber without elimination even after 25 times repeated washing. And washing durability of nylon/polyester composite fiber confirmed the excellence that reduction effects of VOCs after repeated washing has appeared as much as before washing.
