An Experimental Study on the Optical Separation of Highly Concentrated Sunlight (Hot mirror를 이용한 고밀도 태양광의 광분리에 관한 기초실험 연구)

  • Highly concentrated sunlight obtained from a solar concentrator mounted on a solar tracker can be divided into the infrared and visible region before it is actually applied. That is, solar rays are directed toward a unit optically separating sunlight into the infrared and visible region by a hot mirror as they impinge on the surface of a secondary reflector. The Infrared rays can be utilized for thermoacoustic applications while visible rays can be utilized for indoor lighting. This work introduces the separation of two different kinds of light; sunlight and artificial light. As for the artificial light, its wavelength extended from 400m to 720m for the visible region and 620m to 940m for the infrared region. Comparatively, a series of tests performed on sunlight revealed its separation in the visible region from 460m to 680m whereas from 620m to 940m for the artificial light.

  • International interests in chemical warfare agents (CWAs) have been increased recently because of the use of sarin (GB) in Syrian civil war which caused around 1,300 casualties in 2013. After exposing to natural environments, CWAs undergo hydrolysis or photodegrade to non-toxic degradation byproducts. Generally, CWAs and their degradation byproducts are present at very low concentration (e.g. several ppb), thus pretreatment processes including separation, extraction and concentration are required prior to any analyses. Liquid-liquid extraction and solid-phase extraction (SPE) are common techniques to pretreat environmental samples. Recently, a novel pretreatment method, liquid phase miecoextraction (LPME), has been applied to CWAs analysis, which could reduce amounts of solvent used but promote analytical efficiencies. Fundamental backgrounds of LPME and its application to CWAs analysis were reviewed.

Evaluation of 226Ra analysis methods using a gamma-ray spectrometer and a liquid scintillation counter (감마선분광분석기와 액체섬광계수기를 이용한 226Ra 분석법 비교 연구)

  • The efficiency and applicability of the solid phase extraction disk method in a 226Ra analysis were examined by the gamma ray spectrometer (GRS) method using a Marinelli beaker and the liquid scintillation counter (LSC) method for groundwater. The recovered 226Ra, which was filtered by the solid phase extraction disk, was analyzed using gamma ray spectrometer The disks, which were pretreated for caulking the daughter nuclide, were sealed with polyethylene film. Distilled water was used for the blank value of the 226Ra activity. The recovery values of 214Bi and 214Pb in the solid phase extraction disk, which used 226Ra standard material, were 80% (295.21 Kev) and 104% (351.92 Kev), respectively, which were higher than 75% determined by the LSC. The injection of nitrogen gas into the measuring chamber reduced the interference values by about 10%. The detection limits of the 226Ra activity in a blank sample of 5 L were 0.17~0.40 pCi/L after 80,000 seconds of measuring time. The relationship of the 226Ra activity in the solid phase extraction disk method and in the LSC method in seven groundwater samples showed a correlation coefficient value 0.987, which implies the applicability of the solid phase extraction disk method. The results showed that 226Ra activity in groundwater using the solid phase extraction disk method has the following benefits: simple pretreatment, time saving, high recovery values, a low detection limit, and so on. Compared with the LSC method and the GRS method using the Marinelli beaker for the 226Ra analysis, the solid phase extraction disk method could be useful in groundwater samples with low levels of activities of radionuclides because the method is not restricted by the volume of the sample.

Poly-tetrafluoro-ethylene와 polyethylene 튜브 내부에 형성된 유전체 장벽 방전의 전류-전압 특성에 대한 연구

  • 내부지름이 2.0 mm 이하인 PTFE와 PE 튜브에 진공장치를 이용하여 튜브 내부의 압력을 감압하여 진공상태를 형성하였다. 진공기밀 후에 반응성 가스를 인입하여 튜브 외부에 장착된 전극을 통하여 고전압의 AC 전압을 인가하여 튜브 내부에 선택적으로 유전체 장벽 방전을 유도하였다. 본 연구에서는 유전율이 3.0 이하로 낮은 PTFE와 PE 튜브에 유전체 장벽방전이 유도될 때 나타나는 전압과 전류의 파형을 분석하여 방전의 개시와 방전의 형태를 조사하였다. 주파수 40 kHz인 AC 전원(PEII, Advanced Energy)과 Loadmatch 모듈을 이용하여 4 kV 이하의 전압을 인가하여 플라즈마 방전 유도하였다. 튜브에 인가고전압 프로브와 전류 프로브를 이용하여 오실로스코프를 I-V 분석을 실시하였고, 실험 결과 대기압 방전에서 유도되는 유전체 장벽방전의 I-V 특성과 달리 방전의 형태가 유전체장벽방전과 글로우방전이 혼합된 형태로 나타났다. 또한 유전체 장벽방전을 통해 튜브 내부에 형성되는 플라즈마에 대한 분석으로 OES 광분석을 실시하여, 방전 시간과 전압 변화에 따른 고분자 표면으로부터 방출되는 활성종에 대한 분석을 실시하였다.

  • The photophysical properties of 7-diethylaminocoumarin (DEAC) laser dye have been measured in different solvents. The emission spectrum of DEAC has also been measured in cationic (CTAC) and anionic (SDS) micelles. The laser parameters have been calculated in different solvents namely acetone, dioxane, ethanol and dimethylforamide(DMF). The photoreactivity of DEAC has been studied in $CCl_4$ solvent using 366 nm light. The values of photochemical yield (${\Phi}_c$) and rate constant (k) are determined. The interaction of organic acceptors such as picric acid (PA), tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and 7,7,8,8-tetracynoquinonedimethane (TCNQ) with DEAC are also studied using fluorescence measurements in acetonitrile ($CH_3CN$). The electrochemical investigation of (DEAC) has been carried out using cyclic voltammetry and convolutive voltammetry combined with digital simulation technique at a platinum electrode in 0.1 mol $L^{-1}$ tetrabutyl ammonium perchlorate (TBAP) in $CH_3CN$ solvent. The electrochemical parameters of the investigated compound were determined using cyclic and convolutive voltammetry. The extracted electrochemical parameters were verified and confirmed via digital simulation method.

The Study on Manufacturing Technique and Influential Characteristics of Earrings from Bujang-Ri Site in Seosan (서산 부장리 유적 출토 이식(耳飾)의 제작기법 및 위세품적 성격에 대한 고찰)

  • Many earrings were excavated from Bujang-ri site in Seosan with various prestige goods such as the golden crowns, shoes and decorated swords. This proved that Bujang-ri site in Seosan fell within Hanseong Backjae area of influence in the 4~5th centuries. The earpieces of excavated prestige goods had been considred subordinate elements compared with the golden crowns, shoes and decorated swords. Twenty one earpieces were excavated from Bujang-ri site and formative features and material characteristics of them were analyzed by microscope and XRF. The material and manufacturing technique of earpieces were compared with excavated aspects of prestige goods. As a results, the earpieces that made of a small amount gold and by simple technique were the most whereas the earpieces that required advanced skills such as welding, workmanship and high purity of gold were smaller. Also the earpieces that required advanced skills were excavated from the tombs where the prestige goods such as the golden crowns, shoes and decorated swords appeared. Therefore, considering Hanseong Backjae used the gold wares as means in showing power for local influence men, the earpiece from Bujang-ri site in Seosan would be the standard on superiority of tomb's owner as gold purity.

Recovery of EDTA from Waste Fluid of Archeological Waterlogged Wood Conservation Treatment (수침목재유물(水浸木材遺物) 보존처리(保存處理) 폐수(廢水)로부터 EDTA회수(回收))

  • pH control-precipitation method is used for recovery of EDTA from waste fluid of archeological waterlogged wood conservation treatment. EDTA has been used for eliminating of blacken effect in archeological waterlogged wood which was buried in the ground for long period of time. The black substance is generated by Fe$^{3+}$ in the soil reacted with tannin in the archeological waterlogged wood. In order to remove the black substance in archeological waterlogged wood, EDTA was used. The black substance is eliminated from wood as Fe-EDTA complex are formed, and EDTA is separated and precipitated from Fe-EDTA complexes at pH 2.68 or less. The result of analysis of the precipitated products and the commercial EDTA by FT-IR and FE-SEM showed that precipitated product by pH adjusted was not a type of Fe-EDTA complex, but pure EDTA. In this study, Fe$^{3+}$ from waste fluid of EDTA can be separated by HCl added. EDTA can be recycled by using the method of precipitation of EDTA in a strong acid.

Scientific Analysis of Baekje Earrings from Habjung-ri Site in Buyeo (부여 합정리 유적 출토 백제이식의 과학적 분석)

  • So-hwan earring(small hoop earing) is orbicular earring that have only main hoop. In this study, So-hwan earring from Baekje tombs are analyzed scientifically and those is attempted to find the correlation between scientific results and historical constituent. Six earrings were excavated from Habjung-ri sites in Buyeo and formative features and material characteristics of them were analyzed by microscope and XRF. As a results, various toreutics about producing gold silver alloy, pressure welding and amalgam plating that existed in Baekje from Ungjin period to Sabi period.
