Probable annual maximum of daily snowfall using improved probability distribution (개선된 확률밀도함수 적용을 통한 빈도별 적설심 산정)

  • In Korea, snow damage has happened in the region with little snowfalls in history. Also, accidental damage was caused by heavy snow leads and the public interest on heavy snow has been increased. Therefore, policy about the Natural Disaster Reduction Comprehensive Plan has been changed to include the mitigation measures of snow damage. However, since heavy snow damage was not frequent, studies on snowfall have not been conducted on different points. The characteristics of snow data commonly are not the same as the rainfall data. Some southern coastal areas in Korea are snowless during the year. Therefore, a joint probability distribution was suggested to analyze the snow data with many 0s in a previous research and fitness from the joint probability distribution was higher than the conventional methods. In this study, snow frequency analysis was implemented using the joint probability distribution and compared to the design codes. The results were compared to the design codes. The results of this study can be used as the basic data to develop a procedure for the snow frequency analysis in the future.

Diversity of ampicillin resistant bacteria in domestic streams (국내 하천에 분포하는 ampicillin 내성균의 다양성)

  • The widespread emergence of antibiotic resistant microorganisms in clinics and natural environments has attracted public concern. Especially, microorganisms inhabiting natural environment is considered as a source responsible for increasing the abundance of antibiotic resistant genes in ecosystem. In this study, the diversity of culturable bacteria resistant to ampicillin was investigated with water samples collected from seven locations in Korea. The genera belonging to Aeromonas and Acidovorax were dominant among the isolated 498 strains. The 66% of isolates showed multi-drug resistance against more than six antibiotics among tested fourteen ones and isolates resistant to seven antibiotics were the most prevalent with 19.7% abundance. Using the antibiotics susceptibility results, the intrinsic resistance profile was suggested for the most dominant genera, Aeromonas, Acidovorax, Pseudomonas, and Elizabethkingia.

  • Recently, a number of wind turbines are being installed due to the increase of interest in renewable, environment-friendly energy. Especially, an offshore wind turbine is being watched with keen interest in that it has no difficulty in securing a site and can get high quality of wind, as compared with a wind turbine on land. The offshore wind turbine is transferred to and installed on the site by an offshore floating crane after it was made in a factory on land such as shipyard. At this time, it is important to secure the safety of the turbine because of its huge size and expensive cost. Thus, a dynamic analysis of the offshore wind turbine which is connedted with the offshore floating crane was performed based on the multibody systems dynamics in this study. As a result. it is shown that the analysis can be applied to verify the safety of a method for the transportation and installation of the offshore wind turbine suspended by the crane.

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) in the media field is a specialcustomer-centered management method based on the information technology in order to build a long-term relationship with customers, users or subscripted people of media services. The purpose of this study is to examine and compare the various strategies and the characteristics of customer relationship managements of domestic media corporations in the era of the digital convergence. The data is analyzed by in-depth interviews with the CRM managements of newspapers, cable & satellite broadcasters and telecommunication corporations. The result of the study shows that the practicing CRM in the media field has an influence on the management performance and the management's support influences the practice of CRM. CRM is practiced differently according to the scale of the media corporations and revenue. Also the study presents that media corporations which wanted to improve CRM are going through trials and errors caused by the lack of experience of the CRM market in Korea. Therefore this study would provide CRM strategy for CRM marketers in Korea. Furthermore, this study presents concepts to media corporations which do not apply to CRM yet, and theoretical backgrounds which do. Finally, the implication of the study, limitations and problems are explained and discussed.

Factors Contributing to the Introduction and Maintenance of Bike Sharing Scheme in Korean Local Cities: The Case of Nubijia in Changwon (한국 지방 도시 공공자전거 정책의 도입과 지속 요인 -창원시 누비자 사례를 중심으로-)

  • This paper aims to illustrate how the third generation bike sharing schemes (BSS) are operated in Korea and identify the possible factors that have made cities to adopt and maintain BSS successfully in Korea. For this, the paper selects the case of Nubija in Changwon as the representative and the most successful BSS case in Korea. It identifies three major factors that have made the city to adopt Nubija. First, Nubija was initiated as a part of the bigger project of 'Environmental Capital' aiming to develop the city as a world class green city attempted by the city government. Second, the mayor's willingness to learn and adopt European model cities of environmental capital and green transportation played a decisive role in developing Nubija. Third, the city government was able to implement BSS policy in a top-down manner so the policy process was relatively speedy and effective. Also Nubijia became a stable policy because the city has gained international reputation as a Korea's representative green city, and as a result, the city's BSS policy has passed the point of no return. In the future, channels should be made for active citizen participation in the decision making process of Nubija so that they can cooperate with the city government to develop Nubija further.

A Simulation Study for Selecting Optimum Position of a Superheater in a Waste Heat Recovery System Integrated with a Large Gasoline Engine (대형 가솔린 엔진의 폐열 회수 장치인 슈퍼히터의 최적 위치선정을 위한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • Recently, automotive engineers have paid much attention to waste heat recovery technology as a possible means to improve the thermal efficiency of an automotive engine. A large displacement gasoline engine is generally a V-type engine. It is not cost effective to install two superheaters at each exhaust manifold for the heat recovery purposes. A single superheater could be installed as close to the exhaust manifold as possible for the higher recovery efficiency; however, only half of exhaust gas can be used for heat recovery. On the contrary, the exhaust temperature is decreased for the case where the superheater is installed at a junction of two exhaust tail pipes. With the fact in mind, the optimum position of a single superheater was investigated using simulation models developed from a commercial software package (i.e. AMESim). It was found that installing the superheater near the exhaust manifold could recover 3.8 kW more from the engine exhaust despite utilizing only half of the exhaust mass flow. Based on this result, the optimum layout of an automotive waste heat recovery system was developed and proposed in this paper.

Analysis of China's Arctic Route Development associated with the Belt and Road initiative (중국의 북극항로 개발사업, 일도(一道)의 특징과 시사점)

  • The potential competitiveness for new routes and resources has been theoretically discussed with regards to the Arctic route but is gradually becoming a reality as global warming increases. In June of 2017, China officially included the Northern Sea Route (NSR) as part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and major countries' interests in the NSR are greatly expanding. This paper presents the general characteristics of the NSR, NSR development in China, the expected relationship between the NSR and the BRI, and this relationship's implications for Korea. The NSR has poor facilities and information infrastructure and is not economically viable for commercial navigation due to its high-cost conditions compared to competitive routes. In order to explore the Arctic and develop the NSR, large-scale projects must be funded over a long period of time; this has caused major difficulties in development. However, as the NSR is included in the BRI, there could be an opportunity to utilize BRI funds, such as Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Further, China's NSR development and the NSR development of partner countries, such as Korea, should be further stimulated. As Korea has strengths in terms of its shipbuilding technology and geographical location, which is located at the core of the NSR, Korea would have chances to expand the economic cooperation and business opportunities with China and Russia.

The Connection between the Last Panel of 1st Episode And the First One of 2nd on 'Webtoon' (웹툰에서 1화 마지막 칸과 2화 첫 칸의 연결 관계)

  • First this research starts with agreement that comics is 'the sequential art'. It means that over two sequential panels makes how to recognize the story and this research owes to the connection of forward panel and backward panel. Webtoon, internet comics is also consisted to sequential panels. But only it is different with the publish comics by direction, shape, length and so on. So this research tries to make point of the connection between first panel and second panel. Especially it researches what types of connections between the last panel of first episode and the first panel of second one beyond the connections of panels at only episode. This research treats the types of gutter, 'connection' means to continue the same scenes or 'separation' does to devide the story and shows the new scenes. Weekly webtoon must have a kind of break time. The first panel of next episode should remind of the former story, it means easy technique. Otherwise some first panel don't show the same scenes or story so this study researches 130 artworks from the portal sites; Naver, Daum, mobile comics platform; Lezhin Comics and Toptoon, Corea.

Trend and Implications of the Academic Research on the Digital Comics (디지털만화에 대한 학술연구의 동향과 함의)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the status of current digital comics research trends and the characteristics in Korea. For this purpose, 87 articles and dissertations published between 19900 to 2012 were analysed by a meta-analysis methods. Digital comics platforms, topics, methods were examined to understand the landscape of the digital comics in Korean context. The main results of this study are as follow. First of all, the number of researches on the digital comics has been in the rise, and the various academic journals have published articles to understand the digital comics on the basis of their own academic background. Despite of the short history of digital comics researches, the range of research subjects has been broaden, and more integrated approaches have been taken from the various research fields. The content of articles, however, was skewed to a certain platform, topic and the method such as the website based comics, the text analysis, and the qualitative methodology. Thus, the more systematic and integrated approaches are needed to understand the digital comics issues and to build up the digital comics studies.

Application of Seismic Tomography to the Inverstigation of Underground Structure in Gupo Train Accident Area (구포 기차 전복사고 지역의 지반상태 파악을 위한 탄성파 토모그래피 응용)

  • A train overturn accident occurred on March 1993 in the Gupo area, northern part of Pusan, unfortunately had taken a heavy toll of lives and caused a great loss of property as well. The reasons for the subsidence of the basement under the railroads, which presumed to be the main cause of the accident, have been investigated from many different angles, including conventional geotechnical investigation methods. The deduced nuin reasons of the subsidence were: 1. blasting for tunnel excavation (NATM) at about 39 meter under the railroads, and 2. unexpected change of bedrock conditions along the direction of tunnel. But this accident was derived nrranlv from the lack of geological and geotechnical information under railroad area because it was impossible to drill beneath the railroads. This paper introduces a new geophysical survey techniqueseisrnic geotomography, and shows some results of the method applying to investigate the underground structure of the accident area. This method not only overcomes the unfavourable environment which many conventional investigation methods cannot face, but produces an image of underground structure with high resolution. Furthermore, the outputs from geotomogaphic analysis could provide very valuable in-situ basic parameters (like seismic velocities, elastic moduli, etc.) which is essential to the design and construction.
