This study analyzed the characteristics of vegetation structure of the camphor tree (Cinnamomum japonicum) community in the area of mount Tachibana, Kasuya county, Fukuoka Prefecture designated as a special natural monument in Japan. The survey showed overwhelming dominance of canopy tree in the canopy layer (about 30 m in tree heights and 92.79 cm in average breast height diameter) but no appearance in the understory layer or the shrub layer. In the understory layer and the shrub layer, Castanopsis sieboldii, Machilus thunbergii, Neolitsea sericea, and Cinnamomum yabunikkei, which were the competing species to the canopy layer and the late-successional species in the warm temperate climate zone, were mainly distributed. Moreover, the species diversity was generally low, indicating the vegetation characteristics that was not typical of evergreen broad-leaved forests. This is presumably because camphor trees were actively planted, protected, and cultivated to produce camphor which was valuable in the past. Although this site has not been artificially managed for the past 90 years as the raw materials of camphor have not been collected, vegetation transition did not proceed, which is unique. It is probably due to the fact that camphor was overwhelmingly dominant in the canopy layer so that the inflows of species were restricted, and young tree germination did not occur due to the allelopathy effects of camphor trees.
Vegetational structure and successional sere were investigated for the evergreen and nearby deciduous broad-leaved forests in inland areas (Turyunsan, Pulgapsan) and south- western island areas (Hongdo, Chindo). The evergreen broad-leaved forests of the four areas showed a sera1 stage with an age structure mostly under fifty years old. Dominant evergreen broad-leaved species in canopy layer were Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii, Machilus thunbergii, Quercus acuta, Q. stenophylla, Q. glauca, and Ncolitsea serzceu. Succession of the forest vegetation in the surveyed areas was proceeding from deciduous broad-leaved trees to evergreen broad-leaved trees. The species of climax stage were assumed to be Machilus thunbergii, iVeolitseu sericea and Dendropanax morbifera in canopy layer, Aucuba japonica and Machilus japonica in subtree and shrub layer.
This experiment was carried out to investigate on the flora and cardinal wild mushroom in Tricholoma matsutake producing sites at the Namweon area. The results were as follows: Flora of Tricholoma matsutake producing sites were prevailed over at tree layer (Pinus densiflora S. et. Z.), shrub layer (Rhododendora mucronulatum TURCZ., Quercus serrata THUNB.) and herb layer (Carex humilis LEYSS.). Piedominant wild mushrooms were Boletaceae (Suillusplacidus Bon.) and Ramariaceae (Ramaria botrytis Fr.)
Tje dispersion and adaptation of the recently immograted plant, prickly lettuce (Lactuca serriola), were studied. The distribution of prickly lettuce was limited to south of the central districts of the Korean peninsula. The distrbution range is being diffused contimnuously by manual transportation. The 10 selected sites showed typical road side vegetation of an early successional stage; tje quadrats had 90% herbaceous cover, 5% shrub cover, and no tree cover. Dominant species were Kummerowia stipulacea, Ixeris chinensis, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Lactuca indica, Toungia sonchifolia, Cephalonoplos segetum, Rubus parvifolius, Izeris polycdphala, Hemistepta lyrata, Cercis chinensis Artemisia capillaris. The investigated sites were divided into 4 patterns based on vegetation with high dissimilarity. The presence of mant patterns, despite high livels of differences, indicated that the characteristic prickly lettuce communities were not yet formed.

This study was carried out to identify the relationship between naturally introduced vegetation on the abandoned coal mine lands and the surrounding forest, and to select the indigenous tree species for the revegetation of the real mine lands in Taeback, Kangwon Province, Korea. The apparent species in the surrounding forest of Sododong were 9 species of tree layer, 13 species of subtree layer, 23 species of shrub layer and 23 species of herb layer, respectively. The dominant species in Sarijae were 6 species of tree layer, 15 species of subtree layer, 31 species of shrub layer and 25 species of herb layer, respectively. The plant species in the abandoned real mine land were 31 species in Sododong and 30 species in Sarijae, respectively. The number of plant species in the abandoned coal mine land was smaller than the surrounding forest. The common species of the coal mine lands and the surrounding forest were 6 species(Betula schimidtii etc.) in Sododong and 4 species(B. costata etc.) in Sarijae. It was considered that the species in the coal mine lands introduced from the species of top layer in the surrounding forest. Especially, B. costata in Sarijae showed the edge effect which regenerates the vegetative community from the boundary area of coal mine land and surrounding forest. Natural revegetation in Sododong was also progressing by the invasion of tree species in surrounding forest, such as B. schmidtii. Consequently, natural revegetation in the disturbed coal mine lands may be related to the species composition of the surrounding forest.
The vegetation structure and soil characteristics in Koelreuteria paniculata communities of Taean-Gun and Anmyondo were studied. The Koelreuteria paniculata community in Anmyondo had two vegetation layers, lower-tree and herb layers, but the Koelreuteria paniculata community in Anmyondo had three vegetation layers, subtree, shrub, and herb layers. Also the Koelreuteria paniculata was only the species of subtree layers in the Koelreuteria paniculata community of Anmyondo, but the subtree layer in the Koelreuteria paniculata community of Taean-Gun consisted of Pinus thunbergii, Cornus walteri, Celtis jessoensis, Celtis sinensis, and Evodia danielii. The soil organic matter, total N, available P, CEC, and exchangeable K, Ca, Mg, and Na concentrations were greater in the two Koelreuteria paniculata community than in the adjacent forest. The range of soil pH in the two Koelreuteria paniculata communities were 6.3-7.0, but those in adjacent forests were 4.7-5.5. [Dierssen scale, Vegetation classification, Forest soil] .

This study investigated the structural characteristics of Taxus cuspidata communities on Mt. Hambaek. The vegetation consisted of 9 species in the T$_1$(tree) layer, 35 species in the T$_2$(subtall tree) layer, 28 species in the S(shrub) layer, and 69 species in the H(herb) layer. The dominant species of the T$_1$ layer was Taxus cuspidata and that of the T$_2$ layer was Acer tschonoskii var, rubripes. The dominant species of the S layer was Tripterygium regelii, and the dominant species of the H layer was Pseudostellaria palibiniana. The diameter distribution of the dominant five species in the T$_1$ and T$_2$ layers indicates that these Taxus cuspidata forests may be gradually dominated by Quercus mangolica and by Tripterygium regelii. The composition of biological type was Ph-D$_1$-R$_{5}$-e.
This study was carried out to investigate the structural characteristics of Taxus cuspidate communities in Mt. DuckYoo. The vegetation was consisted of 20 species in the T$_1$(tree) layer, 26 species in the T$_2$(subtall tree) layer, 26species in S(shrub) layer, and 56 species in the H(herb) layer. The dominant species of Mt. Duckyoo was Taxus cuspidata in the T$_1$ Layer, Acer tschonoskii var. rubripes in the T$_2$ Layer, Tripterygium regelii and Acer tschonoskii var. rubripes in the S Layer and Sasa borealis in the H Layer. According to the diameter distribution of high ranking five species in T$_1$, T$_2$ layer at natural Taxus cuspidata communities, these forests may be gradually replaced by Quercus mongolica, Tripterygium regelii. The composition of biological type was Ph-D$_1$-R$\sub$5/-e.

This study was intended to suggest the appropriate vegetation management methodology by analyzing phytosociology for ecotourism resources. We carried out the classification and interpretation of the vegetation structure and the analysis of the relationship between communities and environmental conditions in Pocheon valley, Mt. Gaya. The vegetation in Pocheon valley was composed of 5 communities: Pinus densiflora-Quercus mongolica community, Quercus serrata-Quercus variabilis community, Larix kaempferi-Quercus serrata community, Pinus densiflora-Castanea crenata community, and Salix gracilistyla-Phragmites japonica community. The Quercus serrata-Quercus variabilis community was further segmented into two types according to the differences of composition species and location of habitats. The methodologies that satisfy both the use of nature for ecotourism resources and the sustentation of natural vegetation are as follows: - maintenance the present vegetation (dominance species) by strictly avoiding artificial management in the tree layer; - maintenance of the existing vegetation structure through the artificial management of the usual vigorous tree species when the species in the shrub layer grow up to the subtree layer; and - continued artificial management to maintain high balanced diversity and evenness of various species in shrub and herb layers.
