Modeling of Fin-Tube Heat Exchanger (핀-관 열교환기의 모델링)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior of operational and design factors on the performance characteristics of a horizontal fin-tube heat exchanger under phase change conditions for refrigerant. The flow and heat transfer in the heat exchanger are simulated numerically taking into account the variations of heat transfer coefficients, thermodynamic and flow properties of refrigerant, and the axial heat conduction in the tube wall. As the results of this study, it was found that the annular flow model was more reasonable physically than the homogeneous one for the two phase flow of refrigerant and axial heat conduction of tube wall did not have a great influence on the analysis. The effects of refrigerant pressure, mass flow rate of air, diameter of tube and the number of fins per unit length of tube were also discussed.

Application of Levenberg Marquardt Method for Calibration of Unsteady Friction Model for a Pipeline System (관수로 부정류 마찰항 보정을 위한 Levenberg Marquardt 방법의 적용연구)

  • In this study, a conventional pipeline unsteady friction model has been integrated into Levenberg Marquardt method to calibrate friction coefficient in a pipeline system. The method of characteristics has been employed as the modeling platform for the frequency dependant model of unsteady friction. In order to obtain Hessian and Jacobian matrix for optimization, the direct differentiation of pressure to friction factor was calculated and sensitivities to friction for heads and discharges were formulated for implementation to the integration constant in the characteristic method. Using a hypothetical simple pipeline system, time series of pressure, introduced by a sudden valve closure, were obtained for various Reynolds numbers. Convergency in fiction factors were evaluated both in steady and unsteady friction models. The comparison of calibration performance between the proposed method and genetic algorithm indicates that faster and stabler behaviour of Levenberg Marquardt method than those of evolutionary calibration.

  • An experimental study has been performed to investigate the performance and heat transfer characteristics of the heat exchanger for simultaneous cooling/heating heat pump. The heat transfer performance was measured using an air-enthalpy calorimeter and a constant temperature water bath, to obtain the performance evaluation and analysis of a fined tube heat exchanger. Six finned tube heat exchangers with louver fin were tested under a heating condition. Air-side heat transfer and friction were presented in terms of j-factor and f-factor. The heat transfer coefficient increased with decreasing the fin pitch, j-factor and f-factor on the fin pitch and the number of tube rows decreased with increasing Reair.

Flow Rate Prediction of Pneumatic Pipe System Using Concept of Conductance (컨덕턴스의 개념을 사용한 공압관 시스템의 유량 예측)

  • Conductance is a concept contrary to flow resistance and is extensively used as a flow index on how easily fluid is transported through a pneumatic pipe or fluid device. However, research on flow conductance is very rare to date, and a systematic investigation is needed for the standardization of pneumatic devices. In the present study, a computational fluid dynamics method was applied to solve the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with two-equation turbulence models. The present CFD results were validated with existing experimental data. The conductance values and friction factors at the inlet and outlet of a pneumatic pipe were used to assess the flow rates. The present results showed that the conductance depends on the pressure ratio at the inlet and outlet of a pipe.

  • The present study concerns a experimental study of fully developed laminar flow of a Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid through a concentric annulus with a combined bulk axial flow and inner cylinder rotation for the various radius ratio. This study shows the fundamental difference between Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid flow in an annulus for various radius ratio.

  • 본 연구에서는 냉방기에서 널리 이용되고 있는 평판핀이 연속적으로 부착된 다관식 증발 열교환기에 대하여 (1) 냉매의 열역학적 물성치의 변화 (2) 냉매와 공기 측 열전달 계수의 변화 (3) 냉매측 관 마찰 손실등을 고려한 시뮬레이션 프로그램을 작성하고 그 결과를 실험을 통하여 보정 완성하였다. 계산결과로 부터 공조기기의 설계조건, 공조계통 해석을 위한 기초자료를 제시하였다.

Numerical Study of Forced Convection Nanofluid in Double Pipe (이중관 내부 나노유체의 강제대류에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • Numerical study was performed to investigate the convective heat transfer of Al2O3/water nanofluid flowing through the concentric double pipe counterflow heat exchangers. Hot fluid flowing through the inner pipe transfers its heat to cooling fluid flowing in the outer pipe. Effects of important parameters such as hot and cold volume flow rates, fluid type in the outer and inner pipes, and nanoparticles concentration on the heat transfer and flow characteristics are investigated. The results indicated that the heat transfer performance increases with increasing the hot and cold volume flow rates, as well as the particle concentrations. When both outer and inner pipes are nanofluids with 8% nanoparticle volume concentration, nanofluids showed up to 17% better heat transfer rate than basic fluids. Also, the average heat transfer coefficient of the base fluid for annulus-side improved by 31%. Approximately 20% enhancement in the heat exchanger effectiveness can be achieved with the addition of 8% alumina particles in base fluid. But, addition of nanoparticles to the base fluid enhanced friction factor by about 196%.

  • The characteristics about the pressure drop in microtubes have been investigated. The test tubes are the circular, seamless, stainless steel tubes with an inner diameter of 0.244, 0.430, and 0.792 mm, respectively. R-l34a was used as a test fluid. Early flow transition which has been reported in some previous studies is not found in single-phase flow pressure drop tests. The conventional theory between friction factor and Reynolds number predicted the experimental friction factors within an absolute average deviation of $8.9\%$. The two-phase flow pressure drop increases for higher quality and mass flux, and for reduced inner diameter. The existing correlations fail to predict the experimental data. A new correlation to predict the two-phase flow pressure drop is developed in the form of the Lockhart-Martinelli correlation. The effects of the tube diameter and the surface tension were considered, and the correlation predicted the experimental data within an average absolute deviation of $8.1\%$.

  • 우수 관거 시스템에서 흐름은 중력에 의해서 흐르고 개수로 흐름과 같이 처리된다. 그러나 유입유량이 관거의 만관 상태를 초과하거나 하류 흐름의 제한 때문에 발생하는 역류의 영향을 받는다면, 우수 관거 시스템은 과부하(surcharge) 상태의 압력흐름이 된다. 개수로 상태에서 맨홀에서의 수두 손실은 일반적으로 무시되지만, 과부하 맨홀에서의 수두손실은 중요하며, 우수 관거 시스템의 전체 손실에 중요한 부분을 차지하게 된다. 이러한 현상은 여러 개의 맨홀을 가지는 우수 관거 시스템에서 특히 중요한 사항이 된다. 현재 계획 또는 설계단계에서 수행되고 있는 관거 시설의 수리계산에서는 연결관의 마찰손실만을 감안하여 수행하고 있으며, 맨홀에서의 수두손실은 고려되지 않는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 일반적으로 3차원 유체거동의 특성분석에 많이 사용되는 Fluent 모형을 이용하여 과부하 원형 맨홀에서의 흐름특성을 수치모의 하였으며, 맨홀내 손실수두의 변화를 계산하여 손실계수를 산정하였다. 계산된 손실계수는 수리모형 실험을 통하여 산정된 손실계수와 비교하였다. 수치 모형에 의해서 산정된 손실계수 값이 수리모형 실험에 의해서 산정된 손실계수 값보다 약간 크게 산정되었다. 앞으로 난류 모형의 매개 변수들의 조정을 통한 정확한 수치모의 연구가 필요하다고 판단된다.
